Antoni GAUDÌ - (1914) - Parc GÜELL in Barcelona, Spain
Park Güell is a garden complex with architectural elements situated on the hill of El Carmel in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Works of Antoni Gaudí". The park was originally part of a commercially unsuccessful housing site, the idea of Count Eusebi Güell, whom the park was named after. It was inspired by the English garden city movement; hence the original English name Park . The site was a rocky hill with little vegetation and few trees, called Muntanya Pelada (Bare Mountain). It already included a large country house called Larrard House or Muntaner de Dalt House, and was next to a neighborhood of upper class houses called La Salut (The Health). The intention was to exploit the fresh air (well away from smoky factories) and beautiful views from the site, with sixty triangular lots being provided for luxury houses. Count Eusebi Güell added to the prestige of the development by moving in 1906 to live in Larrard House. Ultimately, only two houses were built, neither designed by Gaudí. One was intended to be a show house, but on being completed in 1904 was put up for sale, and as no buyers came forward, Gaudí, at Güell's suggestion, bought it with his savings and moved in with his family and his father in 1906. This house, where Gaudí lived from 1906 to 1926, was built by Francesc Berenguer in 1904. It contains original works by Gaudí and several of his collaborators. It is now the Gaudí Museum (Casa Museu Gaudí) since 1963. In 1969 it was declared a historical artistic monument of national interest. The focal point of the park is the main terrace, surrounded by a long bench in the form of a sea serpent. To design the curvature of the bench surface Gaudí used the shape of buttocks left by a naked workman sitting in wet clay. The curves of the serpent bench form a number of enclaves, creating a more social atmosphere. Gaudí incorporated many motifs of Catalan nationalism, and elements from religious mysticism and ancient poetry, into the Park. The visitor was originally greeted by two life-size mechanical gazelles, but these have since been lost during the turbulence of war. The large cross at the Park's high-point offers the most complete view of Barcelona and the bay. It is possible to view the main city in panorama, with the Sagrada Família and the Montjuïc area visible at a distance.

Le parc Güell est l'une des réalisations de l'architecte catalan Antoni Gaudí à Barcelone qui figure sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. Il fut édifié entre 1900 et 1914. Les architectes José Antonio Martínez Lapeña et Elías Torres l'ont restauré de 1984 à 1993. Cette restauration a donné lieu à des polémiques notamment concernant l'habillage en céramique du banc de forme ondulée de la terrasse du Parc Güell.
Gaudí s'est efforcé de conserver le relief naturel et, laissant libre cours à son imagination, a produit une œuvre originale tout en courbes qui s'intègre à la nature et la reproduit, les colonnes des allées simulant par exemple des troncs d'arbres. Le parc Güell est avant tout un jardin, seules quelques constructions à l'intérieur du parc y ont été achevées comme par exemple les deux maisons en forme de champignon encadrant l'entrée. Une fois le portail passé, le visiteur se trouve devant des escaliers avec des îlots-fontaine au centre, en particulier l'emblématique fontaine en forme de salamandre. En haut de ces escaliers on accède à la Salle Hypostyle aux cent colonnes, qui n'en compte en fait que 84. Les colonnes du parc sont construites de telle sorte que l'eau s'écoule autour d'elles et soit récupérée dans des réservoirs pour permettre l'arrosage gratuit et écologique des jardins ainsi que l'alimentation des fontaines. En longeant la salle, le visiteur arrive sur la place centrale avec le plus long banc ondulé du monde. Ce banc est remarquable: assis dans une boucle, on est à la fois dans un espace intime et ouvert sur les voisins et sur la place, lieu de rencontres très apprécié.

Barcelone Parc Güell
Le parc Güell est l'une des réalisations de l'architecte catalan Antoni Gaudí à Barcelone qui figure sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. Il fut édifié entre 1900 et 1914. Les architectes José Antonio Martínez Lapeña et Elías Torres l'ont restauré de 1984 à 1993. Cette restauration a donné lieu à des polémiques notamment concernant l'habillage en céramique du banc de forme ondulée de la terrasse du Parc Güell. Park Güell is a garden complex with architectural elements situated on the hill of El Carmel in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Works of Antoni Gaudí". The park was originally part of a commercially unsuccessful housing site, the idea of Count Eusebi Güell, whom the park was named after. It was inspired by the English garden city movement; hence the original English name Park . The site was a rocky hill with little vegetation and few trees, called Muntanya Pelada (Bare Mountain). It already included a large country house called Larrard House or Muntaner de Dalt House, and was next to a neighborhood of upper class houses called La Salut (The Health). The intention was to exploit the fresh air (well away from smoky factories) and beautiful views from the site, with sixty triangular lots being provided for luxury houses. Count Eusebi Güell added to the prestige of the development by moving in 1906 to live in Larrard House. Ultimately, only two houses were built, neither designed by Gaudí. One was intended to be a show house, but on being completed in 1904 was put up for sale, and as no buyers came forward, Gaudí, at Güell's suggestion, bought it with his savings and moved in with his family and his father in 1906. This house, where Gaudí lived from 1906 to 1926, was built by Francesc Berenguer in 1904. It contains original works by Gaudí and several of his collaborators. It is now the Gaudí Museum (Casa Museu Gaudí) since 1963. In 1969 it was declared a historical artistic monument of national interest. The focal point of the park is the main terrace, surrounded by a long bench in the form of a sea serpent. To design the curvature of the bench surface Gaudí used the shape of buttocks left by a naked workman sitting in wet clay. The curves of the serpent bench form a number of enclaves, creating a more social atmosphere. Gaudí incorporated many motifs of Catalan nationalism, and elements from religious mysticism and ancient poetry, into the Park. The visitor was originally greeted by two life-size mechanical gazelles, but these have since been lost during the turbulence of war. The large cross at the Park's high-point offers the most complete view of Barcelona and the bay. Une fois le portail passé, le visiteur se trouve devant des escaliers avec des îlots-fontaine au centre, en particulier l'emblématique fontaine en forme de salamandre. En haut de ces escaliers on accède à la Salle Hypostyle aux cent colonnes, qui n'en compte en fait que 84. Les colonnes du parc sont construites de telle sorte que l'eau s'écoule autour d'elles et soit récupérée dans des réservoirs pour permettre l'arrosage gratuit et écologique des jardins ainsi que l'alimentation des fontaines. En longeant la salle, le visiteur arrive sur la place centrale avec le plus long banc ondulé du monde. Ce banc est remarquable: assis dans une boucle, on est à la fois dans un espace intime et ouvert sur les voisins et sur la place, lieu de rencontres très apprécié.

Only two houses were ever built, so the garden dominates, with greenery and wildlife alongside incredibly detailed statues and architecture.
The park was designed to have a relaxing, natural atmosphere, with terraces and shaded walkways, pillars that look like trees, and a long bench shaped to look like a snake.
But the park also stimulates the imagination with stunning Art Nouveau structures and colorful mosaics made from broken tile.
You can just wander the paths and relax, or go on a hunt for all the park’s delightful oddities. The welcome center has suggested routes for getting the most out of the park.
While you’re there, visit the Gaudi House Museum, where the celebrated Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi, who designed the park, once lived.
Though Gaudi didn’t design this house, he did design the furniture inside it, as well as many of the decorations and drawings on display.
Whatever course you take, be sure to spend a few hours in Park Güell.

This week we are exploring another Spanish city. We are in Barcelona and this video is going to highlight 25 things to do here.
It is kind of hard to believe our time in Barcelona has expired. So final thoughts.
Well, it was a really fun city to visit. Great architecture, really nice beaches. It is very lively especially at night. The only downfall is that we were here in the middle of summer so it was super hot and super crowded and sometimes that made it a little bit difficult to enjoy. Especially at midday or in the mid-afternoon. So keep that in mind. Maybe consider visiting in the springtime, fall, winter.
Well, so what did you think of the city?
It is definitely a fun city. We had a lot of fun going to the beaches. One thing that is really different about this city compared to some other European cities though is that it is really spread out. In order for us to visit all of these different attractions we had to chunk them together into groups to visit them day by day. Overall, it was a decent city. It didn't quite click with me the same way that Madrid did. But that is just personal preference I suppose.
And that is a wrap for Barcelona! Our 5 days in the city flew by, and while this guide didn't cover everything, we hope we were able to give you a feel of what this fun seaside city has to offer. Barcelona! After a few days in the Spanish capital, we headed over to Catalunya to see what this popular seaside city has to offer. We ended up discovering an eclectic mix of funky architecture, distinct neighbourhoods, and stretches of golden beaches. It was vibrant, it was stylish, and it was addicting. Here's a look at what we got up to during our visit to this world class city.
