Robert Walden (born Robert Wolkowitz; September 25, 1943) is an American television and motion picture actor. He is best known for his role as Joe Rossi on Lou Grant, for which he was nominated for an Emmy three times; for his role as Joe Waters on Brothers; and as Glenn Newman on Happily Divorced. Walden is also well known for starring in the films Blue Sunshine, The Hospital, All the President's Men, Audrey Rose, and Capricorn One.
Walden was born in New York City, New York, the son of Hilda (née Winokur) and Max Wolkowitz. His nephew is director Howard Deutch (who is the son of his sister) and his grand-nieces are actresses Zoey Deutch & Madelyn Deutch.
Walden's career began in 1970, in Bloody Mama for Roger Corman. After that, and for the first several years of his career, he often played young doctors, such as in the television series The New Doctors (one of the rotating elements of NBC's The Bold Ones) as Dr. Cohen, after the departure of John Saxon prior to the final season, and notably in films Blue Sunshine and Paddy Chayefsky's The Hospital. His breakthrough role was in the television series Lou Grant, on which he played journalist Joe Rossi. He was a cast member on Lou Grant during its entire run (1977–1982), and received three Emmy Award nominations (in 1979, 1980 and 1981) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for the role. Walden has played several historical characters, including Donald Segretti in the 1976 film All the President's Men, and J. Robert Oppenheimer in the 1980 TV movie Enola Gay: The Men, the Mission, the Atomic Bomb. From 1984 until 1989, he starred in the groundbreaking Showtime sitcom Brothers as the middle of three brothers, the owner of a bar/restaurant who was a retired NFL placekicker. His youngest brother, played by Paul Regina, was gay and the series dealt with issues regarding homosexuality. Walden also made a cameo appearance as a sound engineer in the 1994 film Radioland Murders.
Mason Adams (February 26, 1919 – April 26, 2005) was an American character actor and voice-over artist.
Adams was born in Brooklyn, New York. He earned an MA degree from the University of Michigan in Theatre Arts and Speech and also attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, studying theater arts. He made his stage debut in 1940, appearing in summer stock at Baltimore's Hilltop Theater.
Adams was heard on many radio programs during Radio's Golden Age. A notable recurring role was that of Pepper Young in Pepper Young's Family, which aired from 1947 to 1959. He also portrayed the deadly Nazi Atom Man in a classic 1945 serial on the radio version of The Adventures of Superman.
He was also in the original 1976 Broadway cast for Checking Out.
Adams is perhaps most famous for his role as Managing Editor Charlie Hume in the television series Lou Grant, which aired from 1977 to 1982. During his run on Lou Grant, Adams performed perhaps his most often seen role, as the US president in Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981). He also appeared in popular TV movies, such as The Deadliest Season (1977), Revenge of the Stepford Wives (1980) and The Night They Saved Christmas (1984).
Daryl Anderson (born July 1, 1951) is an American television actor.
Anderson was born in Seattle, Washington, the son of Shirley (née Gallagher) and Donald Anderson. He began acting in high school and at age 19 joined A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle as box office manager. He started acting professionally in 1972. He received a BFA from the University of Washington School of Drama.
Anderson made his film debut in Sweet Revenge in 1976. He is best known for the role of photographer Dennis Price, whose nickname was The Animal, in the television series Lou Grant, from 1977 to 1982. The slovenly character was controversial among photographic professionals. Early in the series' run, the Professional Photographers Association of America found the role to be a libel on their craft and demanded that the Animal character be eliminated. However, the National Press Photographers Association found that the series and Anderson's character had sparked interest in many young people in entering the profession.
Lou Grant is an American television drama series starring Ed Asner in the title role as a newspaper editor. This drama series was a spin-off from a sitcom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Aired from 1977 to 1982, Lou Grant won 13 Emmy Awards, including "Outstanding Drama Series". Asner won the Emmy Award for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" in 1978 and 1980. In doing so, he became the first person to win an Emmy Award for both "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" and "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series" for portraying the same character. Lou Grant also won two Golden Globe awards, a Peabody award, an Eddie award, three awards from the Directors Guild of America, and two Humanitas prizes.
Lou Grant was a spinoff from The Mary Tyler Moore Show and premiered on CBS in September 1977. Unlike The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which was a 30-minute situation comedy, Lou Grant was a one-hour drama.
Lou Grant ran from 1977 to 1982 and consisted of 114 episodes.
Edward "Ed" Asner (born November 15, 1929) is an American film, television, and stage actor, voice actor, and a former president of the Screen Actors Guild. He is primarily known for his role as Lou Grant during the 1970s and early 1980s, on both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off series Lou Grant, making him one of the few television actors to portray the same leading character in both a comedy and a drama. He is also known for portraying Santa Claus in the 2003 comedy Elf and its 2014 remake Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas.
In 2009, he starred as the voice of Carl Fredricksen in Pixar's animated film Up, and made a guest appearance on CSI: NY in the episode "Yahrseit". In early 2011, Asner returned to television as butcher Hank Greziak in Working Class, the first original sitcom on cable channel CMT. He starred in the Canadian television series Michael, Tuesdays and Thursdays, on CBC Television and has appeared in the 2013 television series The Glades. Edward has most recently starred as Guy Redmayne, a wealthy, homophobic billionaire who supports Alicia Florick's campaign in the sixth season of The Good Wife.
Lou Grant: Season 1, Episode 1 Cophouse (20 Sep. 1977) After landing the city editor job at the Los Angeles Tribune, Lou Grant's first major story is a sex scandal concerning the LAPD and underage girls.
