Brian Dennehy
Brian Manion Dennehy (born July 9, 1938) is an American actor of film, stage, and television. After gaining recognition for portraying the corrupt Sheriff Will Teasle in First Blood (1982), Dennehy went on to win one Golden Globe, two Tony Awards and six Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Early life
Dennehy was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of Hannah (Manion) and Edward Dennehy, a wire service editor for the Associated Press. He has two brothers, Michael and Edward. He is of Irish ancestry and was raised Roman Catholic. The family relocated to Long Island, New York, where Dennehy attended Chaminade High School in the town of Mineola.
Dennehy enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959, serving active duty on Okinawa until 1963. In numerous interviews, Dennehy has claimed to be a Vietnam veteran who served a 5-year tour in Vietnam and recounted harrowing tales of his combat there, but according to the book Stolen Valor, Dennehy never served in Vietnam at all and never saw active combat. Stolen Valor and other books surmised that fabrications of PTSD and traumatic events in general were intended to gain honor or recognition. The author of Stolen Valor wrote to Dennehy regarding the discrepancy, but received no reply from the actor, although Dennehy later admitted in an interview that he had lied about his service and apologized for it. Nonetheless, he later repeated the same story about serving in Vietnam in an interview with Joanne Kaufmann of the Wall Street Journal.

Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night, or What You Will is a comedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written around 1601–02 as a Twelfth Night's entertainment for the close of the Christmas season. The play centres on the twins Viola and Sebastian, who are separated in a shipwreck. Viola (who is disguised as a boy) falls in love with Duke Orsino, who in turn is in love with the Countess Olivia. Upon meeting Viola, Countess Olivia falls in love with her thinking she is a man. The play expanded on the musical interludes and riotous disorder expected of the occasion, with plot elements drawn from the short story "Of Apollonius and Silla" by Barnabe Rich, based on a story by Matteo Bandello. The first recorded performance was on 2 February 1602, at Candlemas, the formal end of Christmastide in the year's calendar. The play was not published until its inclusion in the 1623 First Folio.

Twelfth Night (1988 film)
Twelfth Night, or, What You Will is a videotaped 1988 television adaptation of Kenneth Branagh's stage production for the Renaissance Theatre Company of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night first broadcast in the UK by ITV on 30 December 1988. Made by Thames Television, in collaboration with Renaissance, it stars Frances Barber as Viola and Richard Briers as Malvolio. The recording was shot on a single set with the appearance of a wintry garden. The costumes are Victorian, and the time of year is Christmas.
Michael Brooke, in his piece for the BFI's screenonline website, particularly commends Briers performance. His "Malvolio is a delight, segueing seamlessly from self-righteous pomposity at inappropriate revelry to truly grotesque self-delusion as he proffers love to his mistress while clad in yellow stockings ".

It was a sad day for fans of all genres as renowned character actor Brian Dennehy passed away on April 15th, 2020. (16 Apr 2020) Brian Dennehy, the burly actor who started in films as a macho heavy and later in his career won plaudits for his stage work in plays by William Shakespeare, Anton Chekhov, Eugene O'Neill and Arthur Miller, has died. He was 81. Dennehy died Wednesday of natural causes in New Haven, Connecticut, according to Kate Cafaro of ICM Partners, the actor's representatives. Known for his broad frame, booming voice and ability to play good guys and bad guys with equal aplomb, Dennehy won two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe and was nominated for six Emmys. CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Sheriff Cobb (Brian Dennehy) asks Stella (Linda Hunt) to bring Kelly (Richard Jenkins) to the barroom dance floor. Kelly is fired but won't step down, so Sheriff Cobb tosses him out of the bar.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Lawrence Kasdan's Silverado is a fond hark back to the all-star, big-budget westerns of the 1950s and 1960s. The various plotlines converge at the town of Silverado, held in thrall by crooked sheriff Brian Dennehy and his behemoth "deputies." The four disparate heroes--Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn and Danny Glover--prepare to do battle against Dennehy for personal reasons ranging from mercenary to altruistic. Sidelines characters include duplicitous, dandified gambler Jeff Goldblum, frontier widow Rosanna Arquette and gimlet-eyed saloon owner Linda Hunt. The film is stolen hands-down by Kevin Costner, playing an irresponsible young gunslinger who never speaks when hootin' and hollerin' will do. A classic, High Noon-style showdown caps this rousing retro western.

(16 Apr 2020) Brian Dennehy, the burly actor who started in films as a macho heavy and later in his career won plaudits for his stage work in plays by William Shakespeare, Anton Chekhov, Eugene O'Neill and Arthur Miller, has died. He was 81.
Dennehy died Wednesday of natural causes in New Haven, Connecticut, according to Kate Cafaro of ICM Partners, the actor's representatives.
Known for his broad frame, booming voice and ability to play good guys and bad guys with equal aplomb, Dennehy won two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe and was nominated for six Emmys. He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2010.
Among his 40-odd films, he played a sheriff who jailed Rambo in "First Blood," a serial killer in "To Catch a Killer," and a corrupt sheriff gunned down by Kevin Kline in "Silverado." He also had some benign roles: the bartender who consoles Dudley Moore in "10" and the levelheaded leader of aliens in "Cocoon" and its sequel.
He is survived by his second wife, costume designer Jennifer Arnott and their two children, Cormac and Sarah. He also is survived by three daughters — Elizabeth, Kathleen and Deirdre — from a previous marriage to Judith Scheff.

Orson Welles Tallulah Bankhead "Twelfth Night" Shakespeare Estelle Winwood Cleaned
A one-time only pairing of Orson Welles and Tallulah Bankhead in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" in 1937 on the "CBS Radio Playhouse", cut down to an hour for the radio. Now Tallulah would have been a wonderful Olivia, a lady of some experience of life who is a bit over-much, but as she was the star she played the star role of Viola, a young bewildered innocent who disguised herself as a boy for protection. Orson, who later played Malvolio very well a year later with his Mercury Theater Company (issued on a huge 78 set), plays Orsino (it was fated) here and quite well. Estelle Winwood, who often appeared with Tallulah, is ripe for the material, and cast in an appropriate role to boot. A one-time only pairing of Orson Welles and Tallulah Bankhead in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" in 1937 on the "CBS Radio Playhouse", cut down to an hour for the radio. Now Tallulah would have been a wonderful Olivia, a lady of some experience of life who is a bit over-much, but as she was the star she played the star role of Viola, a young bewildered innocent who disguised herself as a boy for protection. Orson, who later played Malvolio very well a year later with his Mercury Theater Company (issued on a huge 78 set), plays Orsino (it was fated) here and quite well. Estelle Winwood, who often appeared with Tallulah, is ripe for the material, and cast in an appropriate role to boot. Choice is the scene where Tallulah sings "Come Away Death" as the boy and Orson's reaction is a bit muted. Cleaned and restored by Tormented Artist Ink Studios. Though Shakespeare was not her forte, Tallulah remains a one-off talent.

It was a sad day for fans of all genres as renowned character actor Brian Dennehy passed away on April 15th, 2020. Known to most of you as Chris Farley's dad in TOMMY BOY, Dennehy appeared in everything from F.I.S.T. and FIRST BLOOD with Sylvester Stallone, to COCOON, SILVERADO, and cult classic F/X opposite Bryan Brown. He also starred as Ted Montague in Baz Luhrmann's ROMEO + JULIET and most recently in 2018, director Jeff Tomsic's comedy TAG.
Dennehy was also prolific on the small screen with roles on MASH, DYNASTY, THE WEST WING, 30 ROCK, and THE BLACKLIST. Nominated for six Emmys, Dennehy won a Golden Globe for 2000's DEATH OF A SALESMAN. He also won a Tony for the stage performance of the same play. A former Marine, Dennehy leaves behind five children from two marriages, including actress Elizabeth Dennehy.
Dennehy's passing was confirmed by his agency ICM partners, with the group saying that he has died on Wednesday of natural causes at his home in New Haven, CT.

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Sheriff Cobb (Brian Dennehy) asks Stella (Linda Hunt) to bring Kelly (Richard Jenkins) to the barroom dance floor. Kelly is fired but won't step down, so Sheriff Cobb tosses him out of the bar.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Lawrence Kasdan's Silverado is a fond hark back to the all-star, big-budget westerns of the 1950s and 1960s. The various plotlines converge at the town of Silverado, held in thrall by crooked sheriff Brian Dennehy and his behemoth "deputies." The four disparate heroes--Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn and Danny Glover--prepare to do battle against Dennehy for personal reasons ranging from mercenary to altruistic. Sidelines characters include duplicitous, dandified gambler Jeff Goldblum, frontier widow Rosanna Arquette and gimlet-eyed saloon owner Linda Hunt. The film is stolen hands-down by Kevin Costner, playing an irresponsible young gunslinger who never speaks when hootin' and hollerin' will do. A classic, High Noon-style showdown caps this rousing retro western.

(16 Apr 2020) Brian Dennehy, the burly actor who started in films as a macho heavy and later in his career won plaudits for his stage work in plays by William Shakespeare, Anton Chekhov, Eugene O'Neill and Arthur Miller, has died. He was 81.
Dennehy died Wednesday of natural causes in New Haven, Connecticut, according to Kate Cafaro of ICM Partners, the actor's representatives.
Known for his broad frame, booming voice and ability to play good guys and bad guys with equal aplomb, Dennehy won two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe and was nominated for six Emmys. He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2010.
Among his 40-odd films, he played a sheriff who jailed Rambo in "First Blood," a serial killer in "To Catch a Killer," and a corrupt sheriff gunned down by Kevin Kline in "Silverado." He also had some benign roles: the bartender who consoles Dudley Moore in "10" and the levelheaded leader of aliens in "Cocoon" and its sequel.
He is survived by his second wife, costume designer Jennifer Arnott and their two children, Cormac and Sarah. He also is survived by three daughters — Elizabeth, Kathleen and Deirdre — from a previous marriage to Judith Scheff.

Brian Dennehy
Brian Manion Dennehy (born July 9, 1938) is an American actor of film, stage, and television. After gaining recognition for portraying the corrupt Sheriff Will Teasle in First Blood (1982), Dennehy went on to win one Golden Globe, two Tony Awards and six Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Early life
Dennehy was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of Hannah (Manion) and Edward Dennehy, a wire service editor for the Associated Press. He has two brothers, Michael and Edward. He is of Irish ancestry and was raised Roman Catholic. The family relocated to Long Island, New York, where Dennehy attended Chaminade High School in the town of Mineola.
Dennehy enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959, serving active duty on Okinawa until 1963. In numerous interviews, Dennehy has claimed to be a Vietnam veteran who served a 5-year tour in Vietnam and recounted harrowing tales of his combat there, but according to the book Stolen Valor, Dennehy never served in Vietnam at all and never saw active combat. Stolen Valor and other books surmised that fabrications of PTSD and traumatic events in general were intended to gain honor or recognition. The author of Stolen Valor wrote to Dennehy regarding the discrepancy, but received no reply from the actor, although Dennehy later admitted in an interview that he had lied about his service and apologized for it. Nonetheless, he later repeated the same story about serving in Vietnam in an interview with Joanne Kaufmann of the Wall Street Journal.

A one-time only pairing of Orson Welles and Tallulah Bankhead in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" in 1937 on the "CBS Radio Playhouse", cut down to an hour for the radio. Now Tallulah would have been a wonderful Olivia, a lady of some experience of life who is a bit over-much, but as she was the star she played the star role of Viola, a young bewildered innocent who disguised herself as a boy for protection. Orson, who later played Malvolio very well a year later with his Mercury Theater Company (issued on a huge 78 set), plays Orsino (it was fated) here and quite well. Estelle Winwood, who often appeared with Tallulah, is ripe for the material, and cast in an appropriate role to boot. Choice is the scene where Tallulah sings "Come Away Death" as the boy and Orson's reaction is a bit muted. Cleaned and restored by Tormented Artist Ink Studios. Though Shakespeare was not her forte, Tallulah remains a one-off talent.
