Alpine forecast

A low pressure trough will then generate rain on and off from the night of Thursday 16th until Monday 20th but it should be too warm to bring worthwhile fresh snow to any resorts. The trough should intensify during Sunday/Monday, causing rain to become heavy, wind to become strong and visibility to become poor at Perisher and Thredbo but not as bad in Victoria. This system should move away late on Monday.

From Tuesday 21st, first of a series of frequent cold fronts will move through. These fronts are likely to bring frequent bursts of fresh snow, most falling during Friday 24th/Saturday 25th, when 20-to-40cm is likely at all resorts. Lighter snow should fall as low as 1000 metres, potentially briefly as low as 800 metres.

From Sunday 25th snow showers should be more brief and light and mainly confined to southern resorts.
