The siemens (SI unit symbol: S) is the unit of electric conductance and electric admittance in the International System of Units (SI). Conductance and admittance are the reciprocals of resistance and impedance respectively, hence one siemens is equal to the reciprocal of one ohm, and is also referred to as the mho. The 14th General Conference on Weights and Measures approved the addition of the siemens as a derived unit in 1971.
The unit is named after Ernst Werner von Siemens. As with every SI unit whose name is derived from the proper name of a person, the first letter of its symbol is upper case (S); the lower-case "s" is the symbol for the second. When an SI unit is spelled out in English, it should always begin with a lower-case letter (siemens), except where any word would be capitalized. STORYLINE
Siemens AG said on Tuesday it will sell its struggling mobile phone unit to Taiwan's BenQ Corporation, capping months of talks about the division's future.
The decision to sell the unit outright came despite predictions the Munich-based company would form a joint venture.
Siemens did not give a price on the sale, but said it would face a pre-tax charge of 350 million (m) euros (USD 429.5 million).
Siemens also agreed to acquire 50 million (m) euros (USD 61.4 million) worth of new BenQ shares as part of the deal.
BenQ's shareholders as well as regulatory agencies in Europe must still approve the deal.
BenQ is Taiwan's biggest maker of mobile phones, selling them under its own name in China.
It also manufactures phones for Motorola and NEC Corp.
BenQ will use the Siemens brand for as long as five years while the German company will keep hold of its cordless phone business.
BenQ Chairman and CEO Lee Kun Yao said all mobile phones sold in Europe from September will be BenQ Siemens. The unit would remain based in Munich he said.

Amtrak's ACS-64 Salute Our Veterans Unit #642 entered service today (7/2/15) on the Northeast Regional trains 184 - 129 rotation. We see her on train 184 at Secaucus Junction and on train 129 at Metropark. Enjoy =)
Side note: I would have gotten 642 on 184 at Metropark also, if NJ Transit hadn't royally fucked me over (making me miss a crucial connecting train) and left me hanging at Secaucus Junction. Next time I am on such a tight time schedule, I am most certainly driving. Fuck NJ Transit.

The SC-44 (or Charger) is a clean diesel passenger locomotive built by Siemens and is in the final stages of development by the firm and, as seen here, being sent out for testing. Both MARC and IDOT (commuter rail operators) have placed orders for this engine with several more roads to follow. The SC-44, as the name suggests, is a 4400HP Tier-4 engine.

STORYLINE
Siemens AG said on Tuesday it will sell its struggling mobile phone unit to Taiwan's BenQ Corporation, capping months of talks about the division's future.
The decision to sell the unit outright came despite predictions the Munich-based company would form a joint venture.
Siemens did not give a price on the sale, but said it would face a pre-tax charge of 350 million (m) euros (USD 429.5 million).
Siemens also agreed to acquire 50 million (m) euros (USD 61.4 million) worth of new BenQ shares as part of the deal.
BenQ's shareholders as well as regulatory agencies in Europe must still approve the deal.
BenQ is Taiwan's biggest maker of mobile phones, selling them under its own name in China.
It also manufactures phones for Motorola and NEC Corp.
BenQ will use the Siemens brand for as long as five years while the German company will keep hold of its cordless phone business.
BenQ Chairman and CEO Lee Kun Yao said all mobile phones sold in Europe from September will be BenQ Siemens. The unit would remain based in Munich he said.
