Christina Aguilera
Christina María Aguilera (born December 18, 1980) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. In the early 1990s, she appeared on television series Star Search and The Mickey Mouse Club. In 1998, Aguilera signed with RCA Records and recorded her self-titled debut album, which was released in 1999. The album was a commercial success in the United States, spawning three U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles—"Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants", and "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)", and helped Aguilera win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. In 2000, RCA released Aguilera's Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo and holiday-theme album My Kind of Christmas. Her 2002 fourth studio album, Stripped, ventured into various genres including hip hop, Latin, and rock, and won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for its second single "Beautiful".
Aguilera's 2006 fifth studio album, Back to Basics, was inspired by blues, soul, and jazz music of the 1920s-40s. The album peaked at number one on record charts of thirteen countries and won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for its first single "Ain't No Other Man". In 2010, RCA released Aguilera's electronic-influenced album, Bionic, which failed to match the success of her previous albums; later that year, she starred in the film Burlesque. The following year, Aguilera was featured on Maroon 5's top-ten single "Moves like Jagger" and became an original coach on the U.S. television series The Voice, having since appeared on five of its nine seasons. Her 2012 seventh studio album, Lotus, became the lowest-selling album of her career. However, she later experienced rehabilitated commercial success in 2013, being featured on the top-ten singles "Feel This Moment" and "Say Something", which won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

For today's Book-Of-The-Day I was just reading, "Everything is Obvious – How Common Sense Fails Us" by Duncan J. Watts.
The author makes a good point. You can't always just rely on common sense.
The world is too complex.
Too many factors are involved.
"Common sense is bad at dealing with complex social phenomena like political conflicts, healthcare economics, or marketing campaigns..."
Our inborn common sense only works some of the time.
Watts explains, “Urban planners in the United States have repeatedly set out to 'solve' the problem of urban poverty and have repeatedly failed. There is a wistful myth that if only we had enough money to spend—the figure is usually put at a hundred billion dollars—we could wipe out all our slums in ten years.… But look what we have built with the first several billions: Low-income projects that have become worse centers of delinquency, vandalism and general social hopelessness than the slums they were supposed to replace..."
Why did those housing experts with good intentions make such stupid mistakes?
It's the effects of the cognitive biases.
“Psychologists have identified so many of these effects—priming, framing, anchoring, availability, motivated reasoning, loss aversion, and so on..."
I would add to this book's list all of the other 25 cognitive biases and 100+ logical fallacies.
If your whole life strategy is to just trust your common sense, you are probably headed for a disaster.
“Bad things happen not because we forget to use our common sense, but rather because the incredible effectiveness of common sense in solving the problems of everyday life causes us to put more faith in it than it can bear."
Common sense is best kept for simple stuff like not petting a growling Rottweiler.
Don't over use it.
It won't work on some of the most important areas of your life
It won't work on your diet. When you eat junk food your bodies "common sense" meter will tell you that it must be good for you because it tastes good.
Wrong.
If you're driving fast and you hit a water puddle and start spinning out of control, common sense will tell you to slam on the brakes.
Wrong.
The list could go on and on.
Learn when to use common sense and when to use higher thinking.
Higher thinking comes only through training.
The world is full of people going to the gym for their body.
But hardly anyone's going to the bookstore to "workout" their brain.
One of the main reasons I created the 67 steps program was to show how you can invert the problem and reverse engineer your own brain.
Put in the work.
Use your common sense for common things and your "trained" brain for the harder things in life.

Your brain can easily be manipulated. Be careful. Science says you are more likely to buy German wine when German music is playing at the store in the background, and French wine when French music is playing. You are more likely to name Gatorade when you are given a green pen in order to fill out the survey of your favorite sports drink. You are more likely to buy an an expensive couch from a website with a background of fluffy white clouds.
A bit sad (haha) but research shows this is how simple our brains can be when it comes to decision making.

How to ensure that you stay focused on being objective and listening to potential lovers talk about how they have treated their exes, the way they look at the world and how they show up in their relationships, so you can avoid ignoring the obvious red flags and warning signs that they might not be anything like you think and hope that they are.
In this video coaching newsletter, I discuss an email from a viewer who completely ignored several glaring red flags and warning signs about his ex-girlfriend when they first started dating. She casually mentioned that she cheated on previous boyfriends, and generally has a hard time remaining loyal when she is away from a man she supposedly cares about. Once she went off to college, within days she was becoming distant, rude, disrespectful and dismissive of him. Only a few weeks before, she had talked about having his children, getting married, said they were soul mates, he was the love of her life, etc. He went to visit her to see where he stood when things got squirrely. She was wearing another dude’s clothes, texting this other guy in front of him and basically treating him like he was invisible. He is perplexed by the sudden change in her behavior. They broke up and he told her to call him if she ever changed her mind. He believes he was properly following what my book teaches since things were almost perfect for the first six months that they dated before she left for college. He asks my opinion.
“Human beings buy products and services and buy into belief systems based upon emotion, and they use logic and reason to justify their choices and decisions. When we allow ourselves to become hijacked by our emotions because of our interest in someone or something, we lose our ability to remain objective and at choice. Strong emotions can blind us to reality, and cause us to willingly ignore the obvious red flags and warning signs that we should avoid someone or something altogether. Even though we may be able to delude ourselves and ignore reality temporarily, it is impossible to avoid the consequences of ignoring reality.” ~ Coach Corey Wayne
