40 Year Old Child: A New Case - TLC revisits the Williams family in Billings, Montana, whose 8-year-old daughter Gabby suffers a mystery medical condition that slows her rate of aging. The Williams along with a handful of other families are facing the unknown when battling against this bizarre and inexplicable syndrome that affects the growth and overall development of their children, from blindness and deafness to the inability to walk, eat or even speak on their own. Around 20,000 people in the USA own primates, and for a few thousand of them, their monkey is much more than a pet. It’s their child. Their ‘monkid’.
This documentary looks at the dark side of the monkid phenomenon by following four individual stories:
Monkey Dad Sean has just adopted an abused monkid named Shalad, and is trying to tame it with the help of legendary ‘monkey whisperer’ Lisa Whiteaker. Shalad has already attacked Sean – and he’s worried about the safety of his pregnant wife and two children.
New Monkey Mum Justine has welcomed monkid George into her home, but has no idea what she is taking on.
Some monkid owners want a ‘forever baby’: a cute toddler who’ll never grow up. Monkey Mum Charlene had that dream – but now primate Michael is approaching puberty and becoming aggressive.
Finally, Audrey is an ‘empty nester’ who wanted to re-live the fun of raising little ones. However, vets tell her one of her monkids has developed diabetes, and that she’s killing them with too much love and doughnuts.
Hear about the monkid breeders who profit from ripping newborn primates away from their mothers; learn about the sanctuaries who rescue monkids in trouble; and watch leading primatologists give their views on how this trend for humans to adopt monkeys is truly affecting the animals involved.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Children performed an original poem around a single word they each chose that represented their own spirit, their hopes, dreams and vision for their future.
They accomplished this after dedicating themselves, writing and rehearsing, and putting their words into action as performance art.
Singly, and together, they also demonstrated the results of honing their techniques through the after-school program with their original writing, teamwork, stage presence and speaking skills.
Mikeala Miller and Brandon Sanders
Brandon is 14 and an eighth grade student at Como Montessori school in Fort Worth. Mikeala is 12 years old who attends Dunbar Middle School .They have honed their skills through Voice2Youth, and award-winning poets and artist program presented by a nonprofit organization called the Thank You Darlin’ Foundation. Brandon is a published poet and the winner of three region-wide youth poetry slams. Mikeala says her reading and writing skills have improved tremendously and credits Thank You Darlin’ Foundation program with giving her more confidence to speak in front of an audience.

In linguistics, a word is the smallest element that may be uttered in isolation with semantic or pragmatic content (with literal or practical meaning). This contrasts deeply with a morpheme, which is the smallest unit of meaning but will not necessarily stand on its own. A word may consist of a single morpheme (for example: oh!, rock, red, quick, run, expect), or several (rocks, redness, quickly, running, unexpected), whereas a morpheme may not be able to stand on its own as a word (in the words just mentioned, these are -s, -ness, -ly, -ing, un-, -ed). A complex word will typically include a root and one or more affixes (rock-s, red-ness, quick-ly, run-ning, un-expect-ed), or more than one root in a compound (black-board, rat-race). Words can be put together to build larger elements of language, such as phrases (a red rock), clauses (I threw a rock), and sentences (He threw a rock too, but he missed).

This documentary looks at the dark side of the monkid phenomenon by following four individual stories:
Monkey Dad Sean has just adopted an abused monkid named Shalad, and is trying to tame it with the help of legendary ‘monkey whisperer’ Lisa Whiteaker. Shalad has already attacked Sean – and he’s worried about the safety of his pregnant wife and two children.
New Monkey Mum Justine has welcomed monkid George into her home, but has no idea what she is taking on.
Some monkid owners want a ‘forever baby’: a cute toddler who’ll never grow up. Monkey Mum Charlene had that dream – but now primate Michael is approaching puberty and becoming aggressive.
Finally, Audrey is an ‘empty nester’ who wanted to re-live the fun of raising little ones. However, vets tell her one of her monkids has developed diabetes, and that she’s killing them with too much love and doughnuts.
Hear about the monkid breeders who profit from ripping newborn primates away from their mothers; learn about the sanctuaries who rescue monkids in trouble; and watch leading primatologists give their views on how this trend for humans to adopt monkeys is truly affecting the animals involved.

They accomplished this after dedicating themselves, writing and rehearsing, and putting their words into action as performance art.
Singly, and together, they also demonstrated the results of honing their techniques through the after-school program with their original writing, teamwork, stage presence and speaking skills.
Mikeala Miller and Brandon Sanders
Brandon is 14 and an eighth grade student at Como Montessori school in Fort Worth. Mikeala is 12 years old who attends Dunbar Middle School .They have honed their skills through Voice2Youth, and award-winning poets and artist program presented by a nonprofit organization called the Thank You Darlin’ Foundation. Brandon is a published poet and the winner of three region-wide youth poetry slams. Mikeala says her reading and writing skills have improved tremendously and credits Thank You Darlin’ Foundation program with giving her more confidence to speak in front of an audience.

Melting our minds for over two decades with his beat-based productions, this time renowned techno-producer Anthony Child aka Surgeon is putting the fundamental components of electronic sound production to the fore. Focussing on the development of timbre and texture, Child creates exquisite drones, that give an insight in his improvisatory sensibility and dig deep into the potentials of modular synthesis,
As the title already indicates, it's a very special setting that he has chosen for this endeavour: The jungle of Maui seems to have acted as a stimulus for this exercise in concentration and trance. The intertwining of the electronic instrument that meets the sublime sounds of nature, opens up an intimate resonant chamber. Birds, insects and raindrops are allowed to break through, while you can sense the thick, humid air and deep colours of the surrounding resonating in the pastose synth lines. Some tracks offer beautifully built overtone-drones, others are structured by playful arpeggios that create a shining bright texture and seduce us into a state of disintegration. At the same time Child gives priority to the graininess of the instrument to emphasise the haptic quality and inner tension of the sounds themselves. In the end these minimalist procedures have been compiled to an unpretentious collection of sonic and atmospheric micro-jewels, inviting us to give ourselves over entirely and exclusively to listening.

Ex-guerilla fighter, Jose Mujica, has been in office since 2010. He has never given up his ideals of social justice. The aim of the ambitious 'A laptop per child' program is to help close the divide between rich and poor, and between developed and developing countries. Many parents and teachers were initially sceptical; years without proper social policies still shape life in the slums. "I don't want to know anything about computers. It is a child who knows something about computers and technology that throws bombs." Yet despite early scepticism, the program is now being widely embraced. "We need to educate the children differently so that they understand the world of today."
