Ronald Ralph "Ronnie" Schell (born December 23, 1931) is an American actor, stand-up comedian, and cartoon voice actor (notably Peter Puck). He appeared on May 28, 1959, episode of the TV quiz program You Bet Your Life, hosted by Groucho Marx. Schell demonstrated a comic barrage of beatnik jive talk. As a stand-up comedian, he first developed his act at the world-famous hungry-i nightclub in San Francisco, California. Schell is probably best known in his 1960s television role as Duke Slater in Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.
In his role as Duke Slater on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., Schell's character was cast for three seasons as a Marine private and best friend of Gomer Pyle. Schell left for a season to star as a disc jockey in his own sitcom, Good Morning, World. He then returned to Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. as a corporal for its fifth and final season. Schell played his Duke Slater character as streetwise, compared to Pyle's bucolic background as portrayed by Jim Nabors. Upon returning as a corporal, Slater acted as more of a mediator between Pyle and Sgt. Carter, portrayed by Frank Sutton, than as Pyle's buddy.
Judy Gold (born November 15, 1962) is an American standup comedian, actress, television writer, and producer. She won two Daytime Emmy Awards for her work as a writer and producer on The Rosie O'Donnell Show. She was born on November 15, 1962 in Newark, New Jersey. She first did stand-up on a dare while a music student at Rutgers University. She is a lesbian, who shared a relationship with her former partner, Sharon, for almost 20 years. She has two children (Henry, 1996, and Ben, 2001), facts she frequently referenced in her comments on the show Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. Gold is very active in both LGBT and Jewish communities. She was active in support of the 2004 and 2008 Democratic presidential campaign.
In an interview with Marc Maron, Gold revealed her comedic influences to be Joan Rivers, Phyllis Diller, and Totie Fields.

Judy Gold to me represents what makes the east coast so edgy, funny and non-stop. She's the first comic too that could do a 24-hour marathon about her mother, her upbringing and still have enough material for another marathon. She has co-hosted ABC's The View, hosted HBO's At the Multiplex with Judy Gold, Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time and hosted the 2006 GLAAD Media Awards. Her stand-up specials include Comedy Central Presents: Judy Gold, Comedy Central's Tough Crowd Stands Up, and Judy's HBO half-hour special, which received a Cable Ace Award. Gold was seen in the smash hit film, "The Aristocrats." Gold won two Emmy Awards for writing and producing The Rosie O'Donnell Show and nominated twice for The American Comedy Award's funniest female stand-up. She has also ap...
TV opened its doors to him when he nailed the regular role of Jim Nabors' Marine bunkmate, "Duke Slater", on Gomer Pyle: USMC (1964) and his acting career was born.
Man it is always a blast when you get one of the legends who have been doing stand up back when it was in black and white. Ronnie Schell could do a one-man show closing with a Q & A session based on all of the stories he shares with us backstage. He has been a comedian/actor for close to five decades now. Of course most folks probably know Ronnie from his early TV days beginning with the a nice role as Jim Nabors' Marine bunkmate Duke Slater on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Other opportunities soon followed including recurring roles on That Girl" playing Marlo Thomas agent and a short-lived series lead on Good Morning, World co-starring a then unknown, pre-Laugh-In regular, Goldie Hawn. Minor supporting roles in Disney films also came his way with The Strongest Man in the World (1975), The Shaggy...

Two Chairs No Waiting - Andy Griffith Show Podcast can be found at http://www.TwoChairsNoWaiting.com Wow....I just got back from the 2015 version of the Cruise to Mayberry and it was great fun. We did all kinds of fun Mayberry related things to include a very interesting interview with Ronnie Schell that we'll be hearing here on the show in the coming weeks (stay tuned). We also had some trivia during the cruise and since we hadn't done any trivia here on the podcast since episode #331 I figured it was time for some more. So, here is the trivia questions and answers that were given on the Mayberry Cruise. See how you do and keep score. These are pretty hard questions. The cruise champion, Pat Bullins, scored 18 of the 21 points. Mike Haviland had 17 and Noel Houze came in 3rd wit...

If it's a hard, cold beat
You can go dance every night
You wont care it's true (You won't get it shown?)
It won't be missing the spice
You won't know that it hit ya
Until the sound comes through
Nothing will make you win
Even the law won't fight
Looking to make your winning
It only makes you look nice
I got a sound that's nice
Watching the days go by
We can't go to Gaylord's house (You can't go to the day lord's house?)
You know we have no time (We don't have no doubt?)
We order too many cocktails
That is the way of the world
