Wet Andes

The Wet Andes (Spanish: Andes húmedos) is a climatic and glaciological subregion of the Andes. Together with the Dry Andes it is one of the two subregions of the Argentine and Chilean Andes. The Wet Andes runs from a latitude of 35°S to Cape Horn at 56°S. According to Luis Lliboutry the Wet Andes can be classified after the absence of penitentes. In Argentina well developed penitentes are found as south as on Lanín Volcano (40°S). The glaciers of the Wet Andes have a far more stable line of equilibrium than those of the Dry Andes due to summer precipitations, low thermal oscillations and an overall high moisture.

Andes

The Andes are the longest continental mountain range in the world. They are a continual range of highlands along the western coast of South America. This range is about 7,000 km (4,300 mi) long, about 200 to 700 km (120 to 430 mi) wide (widest between 18° south and 20° south latitude), and of an average height of about 4,000 m (13,000 ft). The Andes extend from north to south through seven South American countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.

Along their length, the Andes are split into several ranges, which are separated by intermediate depressions. The Andes are the location of several high plateaux – some of which host major cities, such as Quito, Bogotá, Arequipa, Medellín, Sucre, Mérida and La Paz. The Altiplano plateau is the world's second-highest after the Tibetan plateau. These ranges are in turn grouped into three major divisions based on climate: the Tropical Andes, the Dry Andes, and the Wet Andes.

The Andes are the world's highest mountain range outside of Asia. The highest mountain outside Asia, Mount Aconcagua, rises to an elevation of about 6,961 m (22,838 ft) above sea level. The peak of Chimborazo in the Ecuadorean Andes is farther from the Earth's center than any other location on the Earth's surface, due to the equatorial bulge resulting from the Earth's rotation. The world's highest volcanoes are in the Andes, including Ojos del Salado on the Chile-Argentina border which rises to 6,893 m (22,615 ft).

Andes (Andecavi)

The Andecavi (also Andicavi) or Andegavi, also Andes in Julius Caesar's Bellum Gallicum, were a people of ancient and medieval Aremorica. They gave their name to the comté Anjou, called Andegavia in medieval Latin.

Geography

The territory of the Andecavi roughly corresponded with the diocese of Angers, Anjou, in the department Maine-et-Loire in present-day France. Although Caesar locates the Andes “near the Ocean,” they held no coast and were located inland along the Loire river.

Role in Gallic Wars

In Book 3 of the Bellum Gallicum, Caesar says that the Andes provided winterquarters for Publius Crassus after his mission into Armorica, which brought several Gallic polities into relations with Rome. Over the winter of 57–56 BC, the Romans built a fleet on the Loire under the command of Decimus Brutus, presumably in preparation for an invasion of Britannia, but which was instead called into action against the Veneti when Armorican objections were raised.

The Andes, led by Dumnacus, played a significant role in the continuing war against Rome after the defeat of Vercingetorix at Alesia. Dumnacus's efforts are recounted by Aulus Hirtius in his continuation of the Bellum Gallicum (Book 8), which covers the two years of the war after Caesar had declared his mission accomplished. Dumnacus lay siege to Limonum (present-day Poitiers), an oppidum of the Pictones, and engaged without success the Roman relief army under the command of Gaius Caninius Rebilus. When additional Roman forces arrived on the scene, Dumnacus was forced to lift the siege and retreat. The army of the Andes was pursued by the Romans and suffered heavy casualties. In a decisive battle the following day, the Romans killed some 12,000 men. Dumnacus escaped, and when Armorica surrendered, he went into self-imposed exile.

Virgilio, Lombardy

Virgilio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Mantua in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 130 kilometres (81 mi) southeast of Milan and about 6 kilometres (4 mi) south of Mantua. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 10,524 and an area of 31.3 square kilometres (12.1 sq mi).

The municipality of Virgilio contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) of Cerese, Cappelletta, and Pietole.

Virgilio borders the following municipalities: Bagnolo San Vito, Borgoforte, Curtatone, Mantua.

According to legend, the village of Andes (Pietole Vecchia), a short distance from the center of Pietole in modern Virgilio, is the birthplace of the Roman poet Publius Vergilius Maro, known in English sources as Virgil or Vergil (70 BCE – 19 BCE). Virgil is renowned for his three major works: the Eclogues (or Bucolics), the Georgics, and the Aeneid.

The comune di Virgilio is cited as "Pietoli patria di Virgilio" in the Gallery of Maps located in the Vatican Museums and painted by Iganzio Danti This remarkable project, begun in early 1580 and completed about 18 months later, maps the entirety of the Italian peninsula in 40 large-scale frescoes, each depicting a region as well as a perspective view of its most prominent city.

Wet (Nicole Scherzinger song)

"Wet" is a song by American recording artist Nicole Scherzinger, taken from her debut solo studio album Killer Love (2011). The song was written by Ester Dean and Traci Hale, co-written and produced by Norwegian duo StarGate (Tor E. Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen) and Sandy Vee. The song was serviced as the fourth single from the album to British radio stations on August 28, 2011, by Polydor Records, while in Australia it was released in the following month.

The dance-pop and pop song speak of Scherzinger singing that "her body is aching for a man's touch". It received generally positive reviews from music critics. The song received moderate commercial success where it peaked at number twenty-one on the UK Singles Chart, in addition to peaking at number ten on the Irish Singles Chart, where it also became one of her highest charting releases. The accompanying music video for "Wet" was directed by Justin Francis. It was generally received by critics which favored Scherzinger's intricate choreography.

Wet (Snoop Dogg song)

"Wet" is the official lead single from hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg's eleventh studio album Doggumentary. The original version was produced by The Cataracs. "Wet" reached #40 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, #18 on the Hot Rap Songs and #13 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles. A sequel to the song, entitled "Sweat", was released by French disc jockey David Guetta, on March 4, 2011.

Background

"Wet" was written by Snoop Dogg along with The Cataracs, who produced the song. Snoop Dogg specifically recorded the song for Prince William's bachelor's party. Titled "Wet", Snoop spokespeople bill the song as a sequel to 2008's "Sexual Eruption". Produced by The Cataracs producers of the number-one single "Like a G6", Snoop spoke of the gift "When I heard the royal family wanted to have me perform in celebration of Prince William's marriage, I knew I had to give them a little something." He continued, "'Wet' is the perfect anthem for Prince William or any playa to get the club smokin'." The song was premiered on Snoop's SnoopDogg.com website at precisely 4:20 pm PST, November 30. The official remix, featuring Jim Jones and Shawty Lo, was released on February 8, 2011 as a part of Snoop Dogg's Puff Puff Pass Tuesdays giveaway.
