Selten zuvor hat ein Politiker so offen Details aus Regierungsgesprächen ausgepludert. Yanis Varoufakis gefällt sich darin, Tabus zu brechen. Und sich an Wolfgang Schäuble zu reiben. Was wurde wirklich besprochen, als sich Wolfgang Schäuble und Yanis Varoufakis im vergangenen März in Brüssel im kleinsten Kreis trafen? Varoufakis schildert das Gespräch so: „Er hat versucht, mich von der Notwendigkeit eines Grexit zu überzeugen.“ Schäuble will sich selbst nicht ausführlich über das Gespräch äußern, es sei ja vertraulich gewesen. Nur so viel: „Er war ja auch für einen Grexit.“
Nach eigener Darstellung wollte Varoufakis den Inhalt des Gespräches nicht schon im vergangenen Frühjahr veröffentlichen, weil dies zu einer Katastrophe geführt hätte: „Alleine die Erwähnung eines Grexit hätte eine Kettenreaktion auslösen können. Sie hätte die Stabilität der Eurozone zerstören können. Wenn man einmal anfängt, als Finanzminister über die Zerteilung der Währungsunion zu sprechen, dann verschwindet das Vertrauen in die Unteilbarkeit der Eurozone. Die Märkte reagieren, Geldgeber ziehen ihr Geld aus Teilen der Eurozone ab. Und all das passiert nur, weil man darüber gesprochen hat.“
Varoufakis will während seiner Amtszeit als griechischer Finanzminister bei mehreren Treffen mit Wolfgang Schäuble über einen Grexit gesprochen haben. Dabei hätten ihm auch vertrauliche Informationen aus dem Berliner Regierungsapparat zur Verfügung gestanden. „Irgendwann haben wir herausgefunden, dass Wolfgang Schäuble von Bundeskanzlerin Merkel kein Mandat für seinen Grexit-Plan hatte“, so berichtet Varoufakis. „Ich habe Schäuble damit konfrontiert und gesagt: Wolfgang, Du hast kein Mandat für einen Grexit.“ Von wem Varoufakis diese brisanten Informationen erhalten hat, will er nicht erzählen: „Ich werde meine Quelle nicht offen legen.“ Plötzlich weiß Varoufakis den Wert eines vertraulichen Gespräches zu schätzen.
Aber eine weitere vertrauliche Unterredung mit Wolfgang Schäuble gibt er bedenkenlos wieder: „Ich habe ihm gesagt, wenn Du Griechenland (von Europa) amputierst, wirst Du auf unserem Kontinent Zentrifugalkräfte entfachen, zerstörerische, dunkle Kräfte. Und Du wirst sie nicht unter Kontrolle halten können – wie Dr. Frankenstein.“

Gerade einmal sieben Monate als Finanzminister der Syriza-Regierung haben Prof. Yanis Varoufakis in Deutschland zum gefühlt bekanntesten Griechen seit Sokrates gemacht. Der Volkswirtschaftler mit Ausbildung an den Universitäten von Essex und East Anglia, der später an der britischen Elite-Uni Cambridge, sowie an den Universitäten von Sydney, Glasgow, Louvain und Athen als Professor lehrte, wird in den deutschen „Qualitätsmedien“ gerne als „Popstar“ lächerlich gemacht – obwohl er die meisten Berufspolitiker in der EU in Sachen Fachwissen klar deklassiert.
Varoufakis wäre mit seiner Expertise natürlich vor allem ein veritabler politischer Gegner für den Anführer der Anti-Griechen in der EU, den Juristen Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble – wenn sich Schäuble nicht darauf verlassen könnte, dass nur er und nicht auch Varoufakis mit seinen Ansichten in Deutschland zu Wort kommt.
Wieder einmal sorgen ARD, ZDF, die Bild-Zeitung sowie die anderen üblichen Verdächtigen in den Medien dafür, dass die offizielle Linie wie gleichgeschaltet über alle Kanäle an die Bevölkerung gesendet wird.

In den USA hingegen haben sich Wirtschafts-Nobelpreisträger wie Paul Krugman oder Josef Stiglitz - selbst in den dortigen Leitmedien! - vehement gegen Schäuble und für Varoufakis geäußert.
Joseph Stiglitz spricht im Nachrichtenmagazin „Time“ davon, dass mit Schäubles Politik Griechenland von Deutschland zum zweiten Mal nach dem 2. Weltkrieg zerstört wird.

In his brief 7-month tenure as finance minister of Greece, Yanis Varoufakis became one of the most prominent figures in Europe, as the leader of the newly elected radical left government’s negotiations with its lenders, the European Central Bank (ECB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission, collectively known as the troika. When the government’s attempt at reaching an agreement that would change the harsh austerity terms imposed on Greece in the previous bailouts failed, Varoufakis left two conflicting legacies: as a modern European folk hero to some and as the sign of utter destruction to others.
In his talk with AthensLive, Varoufakis comments on some of his experiences with SYRIZA’s leadership – Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Vice-President Yannis Dragasakis and his successor in the ministry, Euclid Tsakalotos – as well as the ECB’s president Mario Draghi, Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel and finance minister Wolfgang Schauble, the IMF’s head, Christine Lagarde and its chief technocrats, Poul Thomsen and Delia Velculescu. He also considers the current situation in Greece and shares his thoughts on Europe’s future, as rough times are all but in the past.

Yanis Varoufakis
Yanis Varoufakis (Greek: Ιωάννης "Γιάνης" Βαρουφάκης,pronounced [ˈʝanis varuˈfacis]; born 24 March 1961) is an academic economist who was a member of the Greek parliament between January and September 2015. He represented the ruling Syriza party and held the position of Minister of Finance for seven months. He voted against the terms of the third bailout package for Greece. In December 2015 he announced plans to launch a pan-European movement the following February.
Varoufakis is a participant in the current debates on the global and European crisis, the author of The Global Minotaur and several academic texts on economics and game theory, Professor of Economic Theory at the University of Athens and a private consultant for Valve Corporation. He is a dual Greek-Australian citizen and describes himself as a 'libertarian Marxist': "In truth, Karl Marx was responsible for framing my perspective of the world we live in, from my childhood to this day. It is not something that I volunteer to talk about in 'polite society' much these days because the very mention of the M-word switches audiences off."

Varoufakis schildert das Gespräch so: „Er hat versucht, mich von der Notwendigkeit eines Grexit zu überzeugen.“ Schäuble will sich selbst nicht ausführlich über das Gespräch äußern, es sei ja vertraulich gewesen. Nur so viel: „Er war ja auch für einen Grexit.“
Nach eigener Darstellung wollte Varoufakis den Inhalt des Gespräches nicht schon im vergangenen Frühjahr veröffentlichen, weil dies zu einer Katastrophe geführt hätte: „Alleine die Erwähnung eines Grexit hätte eine Kettenreaktion auslösen können. Sie hätte die Stabilität der Eurozone zerstören können. Wenn man einmal anfängt, als Finanzminister über die Zerteilung der Währungsunion zu sprechen, dann verschwindet das Vertrauen in die Unteilbarkeit der Eurozone. Die Märkte reagieren, Geldgeber ziehen ihr Geld aus Teilen der Eurozone ab. Und all das passiert nur, weil man darüber gesprochen hat.“
Varoufakis will während seiner Amtszeit als griechischer Finanzminister bei mehreren Treffen mit Wolfgang Schäuble über einen Grexit gesprochen haben. Dabei hätten ihm auch vertrauliche Informationen aus dem Berliner Regierungsapparat zur Verfügung gestanden. „Irgendwann haben wir herausgefunden, dass Wolfgang Schäuble von Bundeskanzlerin Merkel kein Mandat für seinen Grexit-Plan hatte“, so berichtet Varoufakis. „Ich habe Schäuble damit konfrontiert und gesagt: Wolfgang, Du hast kein Mandat für einen Grexit.“ Von wem Varoufakis diese brisanten Informationen erhalten hat, will er nicht erzählen: „Ich werde meine Quelle nicht offen legen.“ Plötzlich weiß Varoufakis den Wert eines vertraulichen Gespräches zu schätzen.
Aber eine weitere vertrauliche Unterredung mit Wolfgang Schäuble gibt er bedenkenlos wieder: „Ich habe ihm gesagt, wenn Du Griechenland (von Europa) amputierst, wirst Du auf unserem Kontinent Zentrifugalkräfte entfachen, zerstörerische, dunkle Kräfte. Und Du wirst sie nicht unter Kontrolle halten können – wie Dr. Frankenstein.“

In his brief 7-month tenure as finance minister of Greece, Yanis Varoufakis became one of the most prominent figures in Europe, as the leader of the newly elected radical left government’s negotiations with its lenders, the European Central Bank (ECB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission, collectively known as the troika. When the government’s attempt at reaching an agreement that would change the harsh austerity terms imposed on Greece in the previous bailouts failed, Varoufakis left two conflicting legacies: as a modern European folk hero to some and as the sign of utter destruction to others.
In his talk with AthensLive, Varoufakis comments on some of his experiences with SYRIZA’s leadership – Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Vice-President Yannis Dragasakis and his successor in the ministry, Euclid Tsakalotos – as well as the ECB’s president Mario Draghi, Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel and finance minister Wolfgang Schauble, the IMF’s head, Christine Lagarde and its chief technocrats, Poul Thomsen and Delia Velculescu.
