An oft-used road near the Colorado River looked like a perfect place for some desolate camping. We had no idea how tough the road would be for our stock 2500 and home-built camper.

Most of the roads through the forest are gravel, and accessible by most cars, but the abandoned fire roads can be quite a bit more challenging... even for this legendary machine.

Overlanding, but with a twist. We don't have the fancy rig, we just have what we could scrape together in South America...but it's made it this far so surely it can make it to Alaska, right?
In this episode we are continuing north through Mexico. This episode starts with an empty Kombi and ends in paradise surrounded by new friends.
A lot of people tell me that they want to go traveling, but they can't convince their friends to come with them. Hopefully you will see from this Hasta Alaska project (and this episode in particular) that you can start your travels solo, but you will never be alone!
You will always find people to travel with on the road, you just need to be open and sociable. Travelers abroad are much friendlier and approachable than people at home, because we are all far from the people that give us comfort and security so we are each other's family!
There is a big world out there, filled with exciting adventures and fascinating people that you are yet to meet....so what are you waiting for? Get out there and go exploring!

6 guys, 4 rigs, 3 days in the Ozarks. This was our 3rd trip as a group, but our first time to the Ozark National Forest and our first multi-day overlanding trip. We spent a couple months prior to the trip planning our route, gathering and testing equipment, and modifying our rigs in hopes of making the trip go as smooth as possible. Overlanding is the self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. Typically, but not exclusively, accommodated by mechanized off-road capable transport (from bicycles to trucks) where the principal form of lodging is camping; often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years) and spanning international boundaries. Historically, "'overlanding'" is an Australian term to denote the driving of livestock over very long distances to open up new country or to take livestock to market far from grazing grounds. Between 1906 an 1910 Alfred Canning opened up the Canning Stock Route.
Overlanding in its most modern form with the use of mechanized transport began in the middle of the last century with the advent of commercially available four-wheel-drive trucks (Jeeps and Land Rovers). In 1949, with the Land Rover brand less than a year old, Colonel Leblanc drove his brand new 80-inch Series I Land Rover from the United Kingdom to Abyssinia.
There followed many more private journeys, and with the colonization of the African interior, groups would set out from Europe for remote African destinations. To aid in these endeavors the Automobile Association of South Africa published a guide titled Trans-African Highways, A Route Book of the Main Trunk Roads in Africa. The first edition appeared in 1949 and included sections on choice of vehicle, choice of starting time, petrol supplies, water, provisions, equipment, rules of the road, government officials and rest houses. The serious tone of this book gives some clue as to the magnitude of such a trip, and it was from these beginnings that overlanding developed in Europe and Africa.

Imogene Pass - Colorado/Utah 2014 update 3 So, we crossed the infamous Black Bear Pass, lunched in Telluride, at a local Bistro (didnt like the service AT ALL - do NOT recommend if anyone asks), than just a short way and we were out of town, on our way up to Imogene Pass. One we arrived at Tomboy Mine, we broke out camp just in time to catch sunset and cook our stake for dinner. Next morning, we got up and after a quick breakfast packed up and headed up to the top of Imogene Pass. Views were great as any other, breathtaking skies and endless mountain tops. Ended our day after completing couple of gulches on our way, breaking camp along one of the creeks, before heading back to Ouray. Успели в самый раз разбить лагерь до заката, сделать фото и пожарить сочный кусок стейка. В общем очередной день пришел к великолепному заключению. Утром после краткого завтрака, собрались и в путь чтобы покорить сам перевал и затем заглянуть в некоторые ущелья что нам были по дороге в город Оурэй. The Overland Adventures - High Water Mark Route - Ozark National Forest
6 guys, 4 rigs, 3 days in the Ozarks. This was our 3rd trip as a group, but our first time to the Ozark National Forest and our first multi-day overlanding trip. We spent a couple months prior to the trip planning our route, gathering and testing equipment, and modifying our rigs in hopes of making the trip go as smooth as possible. Imogene Pass - Colorado/Utah 2014 update 3 So, we crossed the infamous Black Bear Pass, lunched in Telluride, at a local Bistro (didnt like the service AT ALL - do NOT recommend if anyone asks), than just a short way and we were out of town, on our way up to Imogene Pass. One we arrived at Tomboy Mine, we broke out camp just in time to catch sunset and cook our stake for dinner. Next morning, we got up and after a quick breakfast packed up and headed up to the top of Imogene Pass. Views were great as any other, breathtaking skies and endless mountain tops. Ended our day after completing couple of gulches on our way, breaking camp along one of the creeks, before heading back to Ouray. We spent a couple months prior to the trip planning our route, gathering and testing equipment, and modifying our rigs in hopes of making the trip go as smooth as possible. So, we crossed the infamous Black Bear Pass, lunched in Telluride, at a local Bistro (didnt like the service AT ALL - do NOT recommend if anyone asks), than just a short way and we were out of town, on our way up to Imogene Pass.
One we arrived at Tomboy Mine, we broke out camp just in time to catch sunset and cook our stake for dinner.
Next morning, we got up and after a quick breakfast packed up and headed up to the top of Imogene Pass. Views were great as any other, breathtaking skies and endless mountain tops.
Ended our day after completing couple of gulches on our way, breaking camp along one of the creeks, before heading back to Ouray.

The Overland Journal booth at the Overland Expo in Flagstaff, Arizona had an impressive collection of vehicles including the concept Jeep Wrangler "Africa" that was on loan from Jeep.
I had seen it in pictures and video from Moab Utah Easter Jeep Safari so I was extremely happy to actually see it in person.
I love jeeps. My family and my wife family owned multiple jeeps in the past and I owned a Jep CJ7 when I was in the military in Hawaii.
They only thing holding me back from buying a new one is the fact that they are dragging their feet on a Wrangler with a diesel engine. I have heard rumors for years and I have researched engine swaps but now that they have these concept vehicles on display....it looks like there might be a Wrangler with a factory diesel for sale really soon!

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) A Florida jury sided with ex-pro wrestler Hulk Hogan on Friday and awarded him $115 million in his sex tape lawsuit against Gawker Media. The jurors reached the decision Friday evening, less than six hours after they began deliberations. The trial lasted two weeks, and Hogan wept as the verdict was read.
