Nabucco (short for Nabucodonosor, English Nebuchadnezzar) is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Temistocle Solera, based on the Biblical story and the 1836 play by Auguste Anicet-Bourgeois and Francis Cornue. It is Verdi’s third opera and the one which is considered to have permanently established his reputation as a composer.
Nabucco follows the plight of the Jews as they are assaulted, conquered, and subsequently exiled from their homeland by the Babylonian King Nabucco (in English, Nebuchadnezzar). The historical events are used as background for a romantic and political plot.
Its first performance took place on 9 March 1842 at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan under the original name of Nabucodonosor. The definitive name of Nabucco for the opera (and its protagonist) was first used at a performance at the San Giacomo Theatre of Corfu in September, 1844. Nonetheless, a more plausible alternative for the establishment of this abbreviated form claims that it was the result of a revival of the opera in Teatro Giglio of Lucca.
Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi (Italian pronunciation: [dʒuˈzɛppe ˈverdi]; 10 October 1813 – 27 January 1901) was an Italian Romantic composer, mainly of opera. He was one of the most influential composers of the 19th century. His works are frequently performed in opera houses throughout the world and, transcending the boundaries of the genre, some of his themes have long since taken root in popular culture – such as "La donna è mobile" from Rigoletto, "Va, pensiero" (The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves) from Nabucco, "Libiamo ne' lieti calici" (The Drinking Song) from La traviata and the "Grand March" from Aida.
Verdi’s masterworks dominate the standard opera repertoire a century and a half after their composition.
Verdi was born the son of Carlo Giuseppe Verdi and Luigia Uttini in Le Roncole, a village near Busseto, then in the Département Taro which was a part of the First French Empire after the annexation of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza. The baptismal register, on 11 October lists him as being "born yesterday", but since days were often considered to begin at sunset, this could have meant either 9 or 10 October. The next day, he was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church in Latin as Joseph Fortuninus Franciscus. The day after that (Tuesday), Verdi's father took his newborn the three miles to Busseto, where the baby was recorded as Joseph Fortunin François; the clerk wrote in French. "So it happened that for the civil and temporal world Verdi was born a Frenchman."

Plot: It is 587 BC and the Babylonian army storms Jerusalem and threatens the gates of the temple. The Israelites lament their fate, but the prophet Zaccaria (bass), High Priest of the Hebrews, tells them he has taken a hostage: Fenena, daughter of Nabucco (baritone), the Babylonian king [Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible], and God will be on their side. The Israelites follow Zaccaria into battle. Meanwhile, Ismaele (tenor) and Fenena (soprano) fell in love while Ismaele was imprisoned in Babylon, and Fenena has helped him escape to Israel. Their song is interrupted by Abigaille (soprano), who arrives leading a band of disguised Assyrian warriors. A slave, presumed to be the first daughter of Nebuchadnezzar, she had also fallen in love with Ismaele during his captivity and now taunts him with her victory. The Israelites panic as they face defeat. Nabucco arrives on horseback, but Zaccaria threatens to kill Fenena if Nabucco profanes the temple. Ismaele, fearful for Fenena, disarms Zaccaria. Nabucco orders the destruction of the temple. Abigaille's reverie about Ismaele is interrupted when the High Priest of Baal arrives to say that Fenena has freed the Israelites; Abigaille decides to assume power. She is about to crown herself when Nabucco, appears to seize the crown for himself. Nabucco then faces the crowd and declares himself not only their king but their God. A thunderbolt strikes him down for this blasphemy. Fenena and the Israelites are led towards their deaths in the hanging gardens of Babylon.

You're staring at your watch again,
You're staring at your watch,
You're staring at your watch again
You're staring at your watch,
It's one of your neurotic habits,
Like back at the party,
So sick of psycho sycophantics
You're hot,
You're cold,
You can't think about it,
You're like the books along your wall
You're jaded,
Overrated,
There's no doubt about it,
So here's a new book for you to read
You're talking to yourself,
You're talking to yourself again,
You're talking to yourself,
You're talking to yourself again
You're talking to yourself,
About a friend who was put away,
For breaking in labs,
And once again, you've got nothing of value to say
You're hot,
You're cold,
You can't think about it,
You're like the books along your wall
You're jaded,
Overrated,
There's no doubt about it,
