BTech degrees by JNU presented to engineer officers

PUNE: Commandant of College of Military Engineering (CME) Lt Gen V Menon has said that military engineers can contribute significantly towards infrastructure development in the country and they must keep themselves abreast with latest developments in the field of engineering.

Menon was addressing a scroll presentation ceremony at the CME that witnessed 37 officers of 112th Engineer Officers Degree Engineering (EODE-112) course, including three officers from Nepal, Maldives and Lesotho, and 37 officers of Technical Entry Scheme (TES) course, passing out with BTech degrees awarded by the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

Director of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) K N Ganesh was the chief guest. Total 37 EODE-112 officers and 27 officers of TES course graduated in civil engineering discipline and 10 officers of TES course graduated in mechanical engineering.


In his valedictory address, IISER head Ganesh emphasized that as engineers in uniform, the graduating officers would face greater challenges in view of the increasing complexities in the infrastructural requirements of the defence forces, especially in inhospitable terrain and our mountainous borders. In order to

meet these challenges, he exhorted the young officers to keep abreast with the advancements in technology.


The prestigious gold medals for standing first in civil engineering disciplines were awarded to Captain Gaurav Singh of EODE-112 course and Lieutenant Pankaj Kumar Attri of TES course while Lieutenant Vishal Thapa of TES course was awarded gold medal for standing first in mechanical engineering discipline.


The student officers undertook a number of projects on contemporary and relevant topics imbibing the knowledge acquired in civil engineering, geographical information systems and mechanical engineering subjects. These projects were displayed after the scroll presentation ceremony.
