Buenos Aires (/ˈbweɪnəs ˈɛəriːz/ or /ˈaɪrɪs/,Spanish: [ˈbwenos ˈaiɾes]) is the capital and largest city of Argentina, and the second-largest metropolitan area in South America. It is located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, on the continent's southeastern coast. The Greater Buenos Aires conurbation, which also includes several Buenos Aires Province districts, constitutes the third-largest conurbation in Latin America, with a population of around fifteen and a half million.
The city of Buenos Aires is neither part of Buenos Aires Province nor the Province's capital; rather, it is an autonomous district. In 1880, after decades of political infighting, Buenos Aires was federalized and removed from Buenos Aires Province. The city limits were enlarged to include the towns of Belgrano and Flores; both are now neighborhoods of the city. The 1994 constitutional amendment granted the city autonomy, hence its formal name: Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (Autonomous City of Buenos Aires). Its citizens first elected a chief of government (i.e. mayor) in 1996; before, the mayor was directly appointed by the President of the Republic.

Travel video about destination Buenos Aires in Argentina. Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, is said to be the most European city in South America with buildings that are reminiscent of bygone times, with melancholy, romance and Latin flair is a part of daily life as well as a passion for steak, tango and football! The mighty Plaza de Mayo is the historic heart of the city and the pink façade of the Casa Rosada shines brightly, the Presidential palace from where Domingo Perón and his wife, Evita, once waved to their loyal subjects. The La Boca district is the old harbor area and lies at the mouth of the Riachuelo in the Rio de la Plata. The bright colors of the painted buildings are a joy to see and where today, dances are performed on every street corner. Everywhere traders have erec...

http://www.expedia.com/Buenos-Aires.d178242.Destination-Travel-Guides Buenos Aires combines European architecture with a Latin passion for soccer, juicy cuts of meat, and of course, the tango! Buenos Aires was established as a trading port in the 16th century and soon became one of the richest countries in the world. Since then the city's fortunes have faded, but its splendor remains. The melancholy of the city's fading riches resonates in the sweeping lament of the tango. Enjoy lunch in the harbor of La Boca, where this famous dance originates. Explore "El Caminito", the city's most famous walkway, then tour La Bombonera, once the home ground of soccer legend Diego Maradona. Browse the colonial buildings of San Telmo and enjoy the sea breezes at the redeveloped Puerto Madero. Don't ...
In November, 2007, I traveled to South America where I visited Argentina and Chile. Watch as I go to Buenos Aires' massive San Telmo Fair, hit the city's nightlife, and fly over the Andes into Chile where I explore the capital, Santiago, and the Maipo Valley wine region.
During my trip to South America in November, 2007, my first stop was in Argentina. In this video I visit the hip, young neighborhood of Soho Palermo, explore amazing Recolata Cemetary (where Eva Peron is buried), and stroll along Florida Avenue, the hub of Buenos Aires.
In part two I check out the famed Buenos Aires nightlife, visit the giant San Telmo Fair where tens of thousands of people converge every Sunday, and travel out of the city and through the Pampas to the small gaucho town of San Antonio de Areco.
This is hand held video footage mashed with still photographs from the "Marcha del Orgullo", in English, Pride March, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2007. There is no doubt that for anyone planning a visit to Argentina then the "Marcha del Orgullo" should be included on your itinerary. It is testament to the effectiveness of the Event that it was covered on the front pages of newspapers and on Television and reports suggested that approx 150,000 people participated! Anyone looking at this footage will see how truly diverse the participants in the parade were. My impression was that there was a real sense of community. Instead of brand name splinter groups competing for attention and membership there was evidence of a cohesive community on display and this clearly added to the feeling or atmo...

“Travel is nothing without coming home and telling stories. You know the stories, the kind that are horrible at the time, but hilarious when you look back on them. We managed to gather a few on this voyage to South America, but like they say, whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. Although, I think the stress nearly killed our good friend and guide Diego Casal, or at the very least, decreased his life span significantly. I should say now, the only reason we came out alive is because of him. He took on the near impossible task of being our tour guide for a month. I don’t think even he knew how hard it was going to be. Nevertheless Diego was driver, translator, historian and counsellor for us, and he did a damn good job. Like every good tour, it came together on a whim. Self-pr...

From one of Argentina's most exciting and original directors Pablo Trapero (Carancho, Lion's Den) and starring Ricardo Darín and Jérémie Renier, White Elephant is a compelling and highly charged film about courage and human triumph. What should have been South America's largest hospital sits half-finished in the shanty towns of Buenos Aires, home to thousands. Amidst rising tensions between residents, striking labourers and warring drug cartels, two Catholic priests strive to defend the rights of the community while confronting brutal gangs and a church hierarchy sceptical of their unconventional methods. Inspired by the true story of Argentinian priest and activist Father Carlos Mugica, White Elephant traces the moral tightrope these men must walk in their bid to stand up for the victims ...

What's new Buenos Aires?
I'm new, I wanna say I'm just a little stuck on you
You'll be on me too
I get out here, Buenos Aires
Stand back, you oughta know whatcha gonna get in me
Just a little touch of star quality
Fill me up with your heat, with your noise
With your dirt, overdo me
Let me dance to your beat, make it loud
Let it hurt, run it through me.
Don't hold back, you are certain to impress
Tell the driver this is where I'm staying
Hello, Buenos Aires
Get this, just look at me dressed up, somewhere to go
We'll put on a show
Take me in at your flood, give me speed
Give me lights, set me humming
Shoot me up with your blood, wine me up
With your nights, watch me coming
All I want is a whole lot of excess
Tell the singer this is where I'm playing
Stand back, Buenos Aires
Because you oughta know whatcha gonna get in me
Just a little touch of star quality
And if ever I go too far
It's because of the things you are
Beautiful town, I love you
And if I need a moment's rest
Give your lover the very best
Real eiderdown and silence.
[musical interlude]
You're a tramp, you're a treat
You will shine to the death, you are shoddy
But you're flesh, you are meat
You shall have every breath in my body
Put me down for a lifetime of success
Give me credit, I'll find ways of paying
Rio de la Plata
Florida, Corrientes, Nueve de Julio
All I want to know
Stand back, Buenos Aires
Because you oughta know whatcha gonna get in me
Just a little touch of
Just a little touch of
Just a little touch of star quality
