Sorry for the mistake in the video everyone, the PC is actually a 1993 build. I just unearthed the original purchace recipit that was dated to the 25/8/1993.
One of the relics from the past that resides in my room is this 1993 custom build desktop. It originally ran windiws 3.1 but my dad updated it to 95 a few years later. Amazingly it was in use up until 2004 when my dad finally got a new desktop, 12 years of service isn't bad for a computer! When we moved house if it didn't fit in the truck it was going in the rented dumpster, not letting that happen! So now I have it in my room and run it every now and again and it still runs like I remember it despite it's 20+ year age.
The printer is a bit more modern than the computer but still makes an impressive set of 90's tech sounds, except for that loud crunch at the start (that's only the second time I hear dit make that noise). It does however load paper crookedly enough to tear it and the last time it printed anything would have been about 2006/7 so the heads are pretty blocked as well. It needs a bit of TLC to work properly but I plan to fix it up eventually.
Enjoy some nostalgia from the 90's :)

Abstract:
Hydrographic printing is a well-known technique in industry for transferring color inks on a thin film to the surface of a manufactured 3D object. It enables high-quality coloring of object surfaces and works with a wide range of materials, but suffers from the inability to accurately register color texture to complex surface geometries. Thus, it is hardly usable by ordinary users with customized shapes and textures.
We present computational hydrographic printing, a new method that inherits the versatility of traditional hydrographic printing, while also enabling precise alignment of surface textures to possibly complex 3D surfaces. In particular, we propose the first computational model for simulating hydrographic printing pro- cess. This simulation enables us to compute a color image to feed into our hydrographic system for precise texture registration. We then build a physical hydrographic system upon off-the-shelf hardware, integrating virtual simulation, object calibration and controlled immersion. To overcome the difficulty of handling complex surfaces, we further extend our method to enable multiple immersions, each with a different object orientation, so the combined colors of individual immersions form a desired texture on the object surface. We validate the accuracy of our computational model through physical experiments, and demonstrate the efficacy and robustness of our system using a variety of objects with complex surface textures.

HP Launches New 3D Printer & Sprout Desktop PC
Hewlett-Packard Co has taken a modest step toward re-imagining the venerable personal computer, merging a 3D scanner and projector with an all-in-one PC to create a $1,899 ensemble it hopes can rekindle industry interest.
The new desktop computer, called Sprout, goes on sale online Wednesday.
In a departure for the company, HP also announced it will begin to share the 3D printing technology it has been developing for years.
The technique, which the company claims can print 10 times faster and much cheaper than current products, will be shared with select manufacturing and technology partners to garner feedback before a tentative 2016 launch.

Sorry for the mistake in the video everyone, the PC is actually a 1993 build. I just unearthed the original purchace recipit that was dated to the 25/8/1993.
One of the relics from the past that resides in my room is this 1993 custom build desktop. It originally ran windiws 3.1 but my dad updated it to 95 a few years later. Amazingly it was in use up until 2004 when my dad finally got a new desktop, 12 years of service isn't bad for a computer! When we moved house if it didn't fit in the truck it was going in the rented dumpster, not letting that happen! So now I have it in my room and run it every now and again and it still runs like I remember it despite it's 20+ year age.
The printer is a bit more modern than the computer but still makes an impressive set of 90's tech sounds, except for that loud crunch at the start (that's only the second time I hear dit make that noise). It does however load paper crookedly enough to tear it and the last time it printed anything would have been about 2006/7 so the heads are pretty blocked as well. It needs a bit of TLC to work properly but I plan to fix it up eventually.

Abstract:
Hydrographic printing is a well-known technique in industry for transferring color inks on a thin film to the surface of a manufactured 3D object. It enables high-quality coloring of object surfaces and works with a wide range of materials, but suffers from the inability to accurately register color texture to complex surface geometries. Thus, it is hardly usable by ordinary users with customized shapes and textures.
We present computational hydrographic printing, a new method that inherits the versatility of traditional hydrographic printing, while also enabling precise alignment of surface textures to possibly complex 3D surfaces. In particular, we propose the first computational model for simulating hydrographic printing pro- cess. This simulation enables us to compute a color image to feed into our hydrographic system for precise texture registration. We then build a physical hydrographic system upon off-the-shelf hardware, integrating virtual simulation, object calibration and controlled immersion. To overcome the difficulty of handling complex surfaces, we further extend our method to enable multiple immersions, each with a different object orientation, so the combined colors of individual immersions form a desired texture on the object surface. We validate the accuracy of our computational model through physical experiments, and demonstrate the efficacy and robustness of our system using a variety of objects with complex surface textures.

Hewlett-Packard Co has taken a modest step toward re-imagining the venerable personal computer, merging a 3D scanner and projector with an all-in-one PC to create a $1,899 ensemble it hopes can rekindle industry interest.
The new desktop computer, called Sprout, goes on sale online Wednesday.
In a departure for the company, HP also announced it will begin to share the 3D printing technology it has been developing for years.
The technique, which the company claims can print 10 times faster and much cheaper than current products, will be shared with select manufacturing and technology partners to garner feedback before a tentative 2016 launch.

LINGUISTS and computer scientists at a Scottish university have launched an app to to teach computers to "speak” Scots Gaelic. The device helps computers understand Gaelic text, can be used in a range of functions such as voice recognition and online translation, as well as grammar and spell checks, and has applications that will assist people to understand and learn the notoriously-tricky tongue....
