China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.

If you're going to be living in China (whether for working, teaching English, studying or for whatever reason) one threshold question should be: where should I go/stay/work/live? Well, I recommend that you live and/or work in the South of China. There are a number of reasons why the south of China is a better choice. First, there is less pollution in south china. Next, the weather is noticeably warmer and there it is more green. Finally, the culture of southern China is more open to foreigners in general. The reasons could be many; perhaps one is the proximity to Hong Kong, and long-distance from Beijing. https://www.anamericanwebdeveloper.com https://www.americantranslatorinshenzhen.com
The North vs. The South. This is a polarizing split in terms of language, food, demeanor, and many other things. C-Milk (laowhy86) had lived in the north for 2 years, and had a very different experience than his time here in the south. Winston (SerpentZA) has traveled extensively around China, and has also seen many differences between the northern and southern provinces of China. Are they similar to the differences in the USA? Hop on and find out! Hop on and find out! Living in China for so long, we would like to share some of the comparisons that we have found between China and the west, and shed some light on the situation. Every week, we take you to a new place in China on our bikes, cover a topic, and reply to your questions. Tune in, hop on, and stay awesome! http://www.facebook...

Snow has swept north China and snarled road traffic in some parts, authorities said Friday. Moderate and heavy snow hit much of north China's Hebei Province starting Thursday night, slowing down traffic in cities and leading to multiple highway closures. "It has created so much trouble for commuting drivers, because the slippery road conditions can lead to accidents," said a resident in the city of Zhangjiakou, which will co-host 2022 Winter Olympics along with Beijing. In Hebei's provincial capital, Shijiazhuang, the winter storm is expected to dump up to 35 millimeters of snow over the weekend. Meanwhile, lingering snowfall and dense fog since Thursday has caused a number of traffic accidents in the regions of Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia. Precipitation will last through Monday in Xi...

An over 40-meter-high cliff collapsed, blocking a highway tunnel entrance on Saturday afternoon, after recent torrential rainfall throughout north China’s Shanxi Province. The landslide took place on a section of the Qingdao-Yinchuan highway located in the city of Luliang. It took only 10 seconds and was recorded on surveillance video. At first, some loose soil could be seen falling from the cliff, then suddenly the mountain collapsed just after two vehicles drove into the tunnel. Luckily they were fast enough to escape the landslide, and the following vehicles were able to brake and stop in time. "Two cars had just entered the tunnel, and they were fast enough. Just after they made it through, the cliff suddenly collapsed," said the driver of the car about to enter the tunnel when...
A ferocious hail and rainstorm lashed Changzhi City of north China's Shanxi Province on Monday, wreaking havoc on the streets and severely damaging cars in the city. Rainstorm with hail as big as bean caused by strong convective weather pelt Changzhi city at 16:30. The hail quickly turned to as big as egg. Many pedestrians had to take shelters under trees and cover the windows of cars with umbrellas and seat cushions. Many cars were severely smashed by the hail, which left many holes on car windows. "I have never seen such big hailstones before.‘We Chat’application is full of the discussion about the hail," said Ms.Wang, a citizen. "I have never seen such big hailstones ever since I was born. The hail was as big as walnut and egg. It severely smashed cars. Just now, I took a taxi. T...

Shanghai - China Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Shanghai - China Travel Guide http://goo.gl/Cl0qNG Shanghai is the future all other Chinese cities aspire to reach. Forget creaking temples and dusty old palaces (there are plenty of them elsewhere); Shanghai is where people come to see modern China at its glimmering best. This fast-paced city of towering skyscrapers is, in fact, not without its own significant history. Its glory days of the 1930s helped build Shanghai's reputation as a City of Sin. But to pause for too long at the city's past would be missing the point: Shanghai is all about the future face of the world's future super power, and coming here is to witness what makes the business end of China tick. Perhaps best visited at...

Towering above the murky waters, the New Yalu River Bridge was supposed to symbolise a new era in relations between China and North Korea, helping bring investment to landmark free trade zones jointly run with the impoverished and isolated state. Costing 2.2 billion yuan ($330 million) and partially completed last year, the dual-carriageway bridge today sits abandoned, the impressive border post on the Chinese side deserted and locked, not a soul to be seen. On the North Korean side the unfinished bridge ends abruptly in a field, with little sign of infrastructure work happening. Launched with great fanfare at a five-star Beijing hotel in 2012, the free trade zones close to the Chinese border city of Dandong were meant to be part of China's efforts to coax its erstwhile diplomatic ally ...

These lamps and sculptures are made from special salt and ore found in Yuncheng Salt Lake, known as "China's Dead Sea". People in Yuncheng, north China's Shanxi Province, have been collecting raw salt from the lake for over 4,000 years. But the salt extracting technique still used today was invented more than 1,300 years ago. It greatly improves the quality and production capacity, and was listed as an intangible cultural heritage in Shanxi in 2007.
Increasingly powerful nuclear tests by Pyongyang have drawn first condemnation from the entire UN Security Council, then a call from the US to the UNSC to craft its strongest sanctions against North Korea to date. China and Russia instead make the case that while the DPRK has indeed earned a negative response, it does not justify America's designs for an anti-missile foothold in South Korea. Shihab Rattansi reports from the United Nations.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.0, caused by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) nuclear test, was felt in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province, in northeastern China on Friday morning.
In the Chinese city of Dandong, on the border with North Korea, business continues as usual. Security doesn't appear particularly tight either. But many here are concerned. It's the morning after Pyongyang conducted its fifth nuclear test, setting off a blast more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. "I'm really angry. China is really angry, and so is Russia," this taxi driver says. Local media say the environment ministry has started emergency radiation monitoring along the border. One man asks if he should wash his car, or shower in case the air is polluted. Others, though, have said they're not too concerned -- they say North Korea won't fire any nuclear weapon towards China, their only major diplomatic ally. In Pyongyang, North Koreans are brimming with pride. "I can't put into...

Since the early 1980s, Wang Jianmin has recorded the modernization of the Chinese armed forces with his camera. With combat aircraft roaring overhead, 100,000 troops of the Red and Blue armies with tanks and armored vehicles began a live-fire exercise in the mountains of Zhangbei County. Wearing combat fatigues, Deng Xiaoping observed through a telescope the largest-ever live-fire exercise of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to date. Victor Cha discusses China-North Korea relations at the Paulson Institute’s Contemporary China Speakers Series. February 24, 2015 Following a recent North Korean cyber attack on Sony Pictures, the United States is facing new questions about how to interact with Pyongyang on the international stage. Some experts have suggested the US can leverage its working relationship with China, a traditional ally of Pyongyang, to help drive its interests in the North. But many aren't so optimistic. In this lecture, Korea expert Victor Cha explores the challenges each country faces in dealing with North Korea, and how the Pyongyang question changes the calculus for Sino-US relations—potentially even offering opportunities for greater cooperation. Victor D. Cha is director of Asian Studies and holds t...
I don't feel homesick, I'm just so sick of home
It's here that reminds me of everything we've been through
And it tears me down
It makes me sick of being who I am, of who I cannot be
A constant reminder
I don't feel homesick, I'm just so sick of home
It's here that reminds me of everything we've been through
Cold nights, again left alone
Wandering streets all on my own
And all of this for you
It's time that I went back for just even an hour
To talk to you to make things fine again
