Palmerston

Established in 1981, Palmerston is a satellite city of Darwin, the capital of the Australian state of the Northern Territory. It is the fastest growing city in the Northern Territory, and was once known as the fastest growing city in Australia. Palmerston experiences a tropical climate, with a dry season and a wet season. It also experiences strong lightning storms.

Palmerston's population is currently at 27, 618 people, with the population to increase to at least 36, 600 by 2021. The economy is fuelled by people working in such fields as public administration and safety (21.3%), retail (9.2%), construction (6.9%) and health care and social assistance (6.4%).

The "Top End", the area where Palmerston is located, is prone to cyclones in wet weather season, and locals as well as visitors are advised to be properly prepared, with emergency kits for the household and enough stock of food and water.
