Installation engineers oversee the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of on site machinery and equipment. They are often involved in the management and delivery of a challenging scope of work and often have to come up with robust and timely installation engineering solutions.
They work to install equipment and machinery in line with company standards and current regulations?and complete all post installation and commissioning checks
They are employed in a wide range of industries including mining, aerospace and manufacturing and may be required to work shift work and weekends. Others find employment in government departments, hospitals and management consultancies, and with research establishments. Employment is mainly in the private sector.
They usually work as part of a team and are responsible for undertaking risk assessments to ensure that it is safe to work. Installation engineers must be aware of safety and health regulations.
An installation engineer's responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings and reports. Their day-to-day work involves assessing risk, liaising with clients, filling out job sheets, installing equipment, reporting to managers, keeping to health and safety regulations and maintaining equipment.
