Surveyor 3 was the third lander of the American unmanned Surveyor program sent to explore the surface of the Moon. Launched on April 17, 1967, Surveyor 3 landed on April 20, 1967, at the Mare Cognitum portion of the Oceanus Procellarum (S3° 01' 41.43" W23° 27' 29.55") . It transmitted a total of 6,315 TV images to the Earth.
As Surveyor 3 was landing (in a crater, as it turned out ), highly reflective rocks confused the spacecraft's lunar descent radar. The engines failed to cut off at 14 feet (4.3 meters) in altitude as called for in the mission plans, and this delay caused the lander to bounce on the lunar surface twice. Its first bounce reached the altitude of about 35 feet (10 meters). The second bounce reached a height of about 11 feet (three meters). On the third impact with the surface—from the initial altitude of three meters, and velocity of zero, which was below the planned altitude of 14 feet (4.3 meters), and very slowly descending —Surveyor 3 settled down to a soft landing as intended.

Before humans landed on the moon, NASA sent Surveyor 3 to find out if Apollo astronauts might step into something akin to meters of powdered sugar. Surveyor proved otherwise, and now NASA wanted the samples it collected back on Earth. Pete Conrad had to maneuver his Apollo 12 lander well enough to set down near Surveyor--the first ever such attempt.

Surveyor 3 was the second spacecraft of the Surveyor series to achieve a lunar soft landing. The primary objectives of the Surveyor program, a series of seven robotic lunar softlanding flights, were to support the coming crewed Apollo landings by: (1) developing and validating the technology for landing softly on the Moon; (2) providing data on the compatibility of the Apollo design with conditions encountered on the lunar surface; and (3) adding to the scientific knowledge of the Moon. The specific objectives for this mission were to: (1) perform a soft landing on the Moon within the Apollo zone and east of the Surveyor 1 landing site; (2) obtain postlanding television pictures of the lunar surface; (3) obtain information on lunar-surface bearing strength, radar reflectivity, and thermal ...

I try to show off as many FMVs as I can along the way. I did finish with a good score, which is measured by acreage in this game. I named my character after the true stars of the Oregon Trail series- Death N' Disease. This is the "Beginner" difficulty, but I don't know if that played a part in my zero mortality rate or not. However, it definitely does affect my starting cash. Austin Billings, Jeff Goldsmith, Sally Goldsmith, and Casey O'Neill are my party members. I'm quite impressed with how they wrote Austin Billings. Considering the minimalist script, they gave a fairly good image of how slavery played out in the era, and not with the guilt tripping people they usually like to do with the narratives. Togba Norris gave an excellent playful performance, while not dumbing it down for the ...

I work as a land surveyor. This job covers many different projects in many different fields, but they all require the same thing. Precise measurements. Before I take measurements, I have to setup a Base Station. The base station is setup over a point that had a GPS unit setup over it previously, and over the span of 6 hours had used Geo-sync orbit satellite data to pinpoint the GPS Unit's exact position on earth down to a thousandth of 1 survey foot. Once the base is established, I set up another GPS unit on it and verify its coordinated and then can use a roving GPS unit to take precise, sub centimeter measurements on construction items of significant importance, such as welds, valves, etc. I take a shot with the rover, it then uses the known position of the base station, and then the pos...
