Kayseri, Türkiye'nin bir ili ve en kalabalık 15. şehridir. 2014 yılı itibarı ile 1.322.376 nüfusa sahiptir. Akkışla, Bünyan, Develi, Hacılar, İncesu, Kocasinan, Melikgazi, Pınarbaşı, Sarıoğlan, Sarız, Tomarza, Yahyalı, Talas, Özvatan, Felahiye ve Yeşilhisar olmak üzere 16 ilçeden oluşmaktadır. Ankara ve Konya'dan sonra İç Anadolu'nun üçüncü büyük kenti ve sanayi merkezidir.[1] ’nin Orta Kızılırmak Bölümünde, Erciyes Dağı'nın eteklerinde modern bir il. Kuzey ve kuzeybatıda Yozgat, kuzey ve kuzeydoğuda Sivas, doğuda Kahramanmaraş, güneyde Adana, güneybatıda Niğde, batıda ise Nevşehir illeriyle çevrilidir. Dünyanın en eski şehirlerinden biri olan Kayseri (eski Mazaka, Kaisareia), klasik çağlarda Kapadokya adı verilen bölgededir. Kızılırmak'ın güneyinde bulunan bu bölge, Tuz Gölü'nden Fırat nehrine kadar uzanır. İpek Yolu buradan geçer. Bu nedenle her çağda tüm ulusların ilgisini çekmiş ve pek çok uygarlığın beşiği olmuştur. Kayseri, MÖ 4000 ile MS 2000 olmak üzere 6000 yıllık bir tarihe sahiptir. MÖ 2000 yıllarında Anadolu’ya gelen Hititler, Kayseri’ye 22 km uzaklıkta bulunan Kültepe (Kaniş) şehrini kurmuşlardır. Kültepe, Kayseri ovasının en büyük şehri ve Anadolu’nun en büyük höyüklerinden biridir. Kültepe’nin hemen yanında yer alan Karum’da (Pazarşehir) yapılan kazılarda bu döneme ait çivi yazısı ile çeşitli yazılı tabletler bulunmuş ve bu tabletlerden Asurlu tüccarlarla Hititli yerliler arasındaki ticari ilişkilere ait bilgiler elde edilmiştir. Kültepe, MÖ 4000 yılından Roma devri sonuna kadar devamlı olarak yerleşme görmüştür.

Kayseri
Kayseri (Turkish: [ˈkajseɾi]) is a large and industrialized city in Central Anatolia, Turkey. It is the seat of Kayseri Province. The city of Kayseri, as defined by the boundaries of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, is structurally composed of five metropolitan districts, the two core districts of Kocasinan and Melikgazi, and since 2004, also Hacılar, İncesu and Talas.
Kayseri is located at the foot of the extinct volcano Mount Erciyes that towers 3916 m over the city. The city is often cited in the first ranks among Turkey's cities that fit the definition of Anatolian Tigers.
The city is rich in historical monuments, dating especially from the Seljuk period. While it is generally visited en route to the international tourist attractions of Cappadocia, Kayseri has many visitor's attractions by its own right: Seljuk and Ottoman era monuments in and around the city center, Mount Erciyes as a trekking and alpinism center, Zamantı River as a rafting center, the historic sites of Kültepe, Ağırnas, Talas and Develi, to name a few. Kayseri is served by Erkilet International Airport and is home to Erciyes University.

Kayseri, MÖ 4000 ile MS 2000 olmak üzere 6000 yıllık bir tarihe sahiptir. MÖ 2000 yıllarında Anadolu’ya gelen Hititler, Kayseri’ye 22 km uzaklıkta bulunan Kültepe (Kaniş) şehrini kurmuşlardır. Kültepe, Kayseri ovasının en büyük şehri ve Anadolu’nun en büyük höyüklerinden biridir. Kültepe’nin hemen yanında yer alan Karum’da (Pazarşehir) yapılan kazılarda bu döneme ait çivi yazısı ile çeşitli yazılı tabletler bulunmuş ve bu tabletlerden Asurlu tüccarlarla Hititli yerliler arasındaki ticari ilişkilere ait bilgiler elde edilmiştir. Kültepe, MÖ 4000 yılından Roma devri sonuna kadar devamlı olarak yerleşme görmüştür.

Ankara ve Konya'dan sonra İç Anadolu'nun üçüncü büyük kenti ve sanayi merkezidir.[1] ’nin Orta Kızılırmak Bölümünde, Erciyes Dağı'nın eteklerinde modern bir il. Kuzey ve kuzeybatıda Yozgat, kuzey ve kuzeydoğuda Sivas, doğuda Kahramanmaraş, güneyde Adana, güneybatıda Niğde, batıda ise Nevşehir illeriyle çevrilidir. Dünyanın en eski şehirlerinden biri olan Kayseri (eski Mazaka, Kaisareia), klasik çağlarda Kapadokya adı verilen bölgededir. The cuisine of the southeast -Urfa, Gaziantep and Adana- is famous for its variety of kebabs, mezes and dough-based desserts such as baklava, kadayıf and künefe.
Especially in the western parts of Turkey, where olive trees grow abundantly, olive oil is the major type of oil used for cooking.[3] The cuisines of the Aegean, Marmara and Mediterranean regions are rich in vegetables, herbs, and fish. Central Anatolia has many famous specialties, such as keşkek (kashkak), mantı (especially from Kayseri) and gözleme.
A specialty's name sometimes includes that of a city or region, either in or outside of Turkey, and may refer to the specific technique or ingredients used in that area. For example, the difference between urfa kebab and adana kebab is the thickness of the skewer and the amount of hot pepper that kebab contains. Urfa kebab is less spicy and thicker than adana kebab.

During this period, the Şifahane, Kayseri's first hospital, and perhaps the first hospital in all of Anatolia, was built. It was built in honor of Princess Gevher Nesibe Hatun, daughter of the Sultan. She died of a disease at a young age. Construction of the hospital was completed in 1206.
Later on, Kayseri became a cultural mecca of poets, artists in Turkey. Seyyid Burhaneddin lived there, and so did others such as Kadı Burhaneddin and Seyrani, among many others. Seynari was born in 1807. Sinan the Great, an Ottoman architect, was also from Kayseri.
According to Turkish mythology, a man named Hasan Baba would cross mountains during the month of August every year and bring Ali Baba snow, which would not melt.
In 1919, Atatürk chose Kayseri as his new home.

Kayseri is located at the foot of the extinct volcano Mount Erciyes that towers 3916 m over the city. The city is often cited in the first ranks among Turkey's cities that fit the definition of Anatolian Tigers.The city is rich in historical monuments, dating especially from the Seljuk period. While it is generally visited en route to the international tourist attractions of Cappadocia, Kayseri has many visitor's attractions by its own right: Seljuk and Ottoman era monuments in and around the city center, Mount Erciyes as a trekking and alpinism center, Zamantı River as a rafting center, the historic sites of Kültepe, Ağırnas, Talas and Develi, to name a few. Kayseri is served by Erkilet International Airport and is home to Erciyes University.
According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, as of 2011 the city of Kayseri had a population of 844,656; while Kayseri Province had a population of 1,234,651.
Kayseri received notable public investments in the 1920s and 1930s. Sumer Textile and Kayseri Tayyare Fabrikasi (airplane manufacturer) were set up here during the post Republican Era with the help of German and particularly Russian experts. The latter manufactured the first aircraft "made in Turkey" in the 1940s. After the 1950s, the city suffered from a decrease in the amount of public investment. It was, however, during the same years that Kayseri businessmen and merchants became transformed into countrywide capitalists. Families such as Sabancı, Has, Dedeman, Hattat, Kurmel, Özyeğin, Karamanlargil and Özilhan who started out as small-scale merchants in the city of Kayseri became prominent actors in the Turkish economy. These families set up their headquarters in cities such as Istanbul and Adana, nevertheless often coming back to Kayseri to invest.
Thanks to the economic liberalization policies introduced in the 1980s, a new wave of merchants and industrialists from Kayseri joined their predecessors. Most of these new industrialists choose Kayseri as base of their operations. As a consequence of better infrastructures, the city achieved a remarkable industrial growth since 2000 and is one of the key cities that characterizes the class of Anatolian Tigers, with a favorable environment present especially for small and medium enterprises.
The pace of growth of the city was so fast that in 2004 the city applied to the Guinness Book of World Records for the most new manufacturing industries started in a single day: 139 factories. Kayseri also has emerged as one of the most successful furniture-making hub in Turkey earned more than a billion dollars in export revenues in 2007.
Kayseri Free Zone established in 1998, today has more than 43 companies with an investment of 140 million dollars. The Zone's main business activities including; production, trading, warehouse management, mounting and demounting, assembly-disassembly, Merchandising, maintenance and repair, engineering workshops, office and workplace rental, packing-repacking, banking and insurance, leasing, labelling and exhiption facilities. Kayseri FTZ with cost of $8 per square meter is one of the lowest cost land free zones in the world.
