The Pedirka Desert is a small Australian desert, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) north-west of Oodnadatta and 250 kilometres (160 mi) north-east of Coober Pedy in South Australia. Mount Deane and Witjira National Park are just to the north.
The desert is relatively small, occupying about 1,250 square kilometres (480 sq mi).
Pedirka Desert belongs to the Finke bioregion. The sands are deep-red and it is vegetated by dense mulga woodlands. Dunes in the desert are low, eroded, widely spaced and positioned parallel to each other.
Although the land is not over-appealing to pastoralists, it is progressively being developed.

The lack of vegetation exposes the unprotected surface of the ground to the processes of denudation. About one third of the land surface of the world is arid or semi-arid. This includes much of the polar regions where little precipitation occurs and which are sometimes called "cold deserts". There are a number of ways of classifying deserts including by the amount of precipit...

very difficult holding camera and driving!
4x4 in the sand dunes is easy as long as you follow some simple tricks, Tyre pressure 18 psi front 20 psi rear (you may find you may have to go lower in very soft sand) Steady power and don't back near the top of the dune, Don't fight the sand let the 4x4 find it's own way over the dune. AND MOST OF ALL DONT DRIVE LIKE A MAD OBSESSED RACING DRIVER. "Stay Safe"
If your HF radio is a bit deaf, have a look at the Autotune Antenna, this is a Barrett one but I think you might find that this fix may well work with any HF tuner that looks if it looks the same.
Bogged, not me, if you can get-out without out side help, then you are stuck not bogged! just stuck!

In June 2015 we travelled up the Canning Stock Route Western Australia, this 4x4 track is noted as the most remote track in the world. We worked Ham-radio DX from the C.S.R at most campsites using the Sherbrooke Community Amateur Radio Club Inc call VK3KID. We also had a Quad-copter that we put up into the air at most campsites along the track, as you can see from the footage the country is amazing with no one for miles and miles. The trip started in Wiluna W.A and ended at Halls Creek Western Australia some 2013km with the longest distance without fuel for 1170km Wiluna to Kunawaritji WA all up over 2013km. A great trip, that is a must do for all Australian 4x4ers, but take your time and enjoy the trip, I would like to do it again if I can from Halls Creek to Wiluna WA.
