SESAC drew over 300 attendees to the 6th Annual Songwriters Bootcamp on July 26, at LA's Skirball Cultural Center. The event, devoted to educating on all aspects of the music industry through panels, lectures and discussions, featured an impressive array of renowned songwriters, composers and industry professionals.
Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer, Rico Love, was the Keynote Speaker, and delivered an inspiring and informative presentation on his career and advice to creative artists on establishing and prospering in an ever-changing business. Love was also on hand for a Q&A; session with noted music journalist Jessica Herndon. Love, one of music's most in-demand talents, has been named SESAC's Pop Awards Songwriter of the Year for three consecutive years and works with the likes of such superstars as Beyoncé, Nelly, Usher, ASAP Rocky, Lil Wayne, The Wanted, Michelle Williams and Chris Brown among many others.
SESAC Songwriters Bootcamp also featured such panels as The Secret Life of Music Supervisors, which offered information on getting started as a music supervisor and how to get your music noticed in the highly competitive field, Ask The Experts: Advice From Publishers, Music Libraries & Attorneys which addressed various aspects of publishing and negotiating music libraries with insight from top level publishers and lawyers. The Get The Word Out symposium offered attendees information from top level publicists and press personnel on creating effective publicity plans in a Do It Yourself approach. Take Your Shot: Song Critiques From the Experts featured a panel consisting of professionals giving their feedback on songs that were submitted for evaluation.
Other panels included Mix It Up: Making Your Tracks Pop, Intro to Scoring to Picture: How To Get Started in the Film, Television & Game Industries and Advance Scoring to Picture: Practical Notes & Tips From the Top. SESAC Songwriters Bootcamp 2013 concluded with a festive cocktail reception at the Skirball courtyard and featured live music.

SESAC celebrated its top songwriters and publishers during the 19th annual SESAC Pop Awards at The New York Public Library on Monday, May 4. During an evening full of top hit makers, industry luminaries and special awards, James Napier captured the top honors taking home the coveted Songwriter of the Year award. Napier and songwriter William Phillips (aka Tourist) were honored with the Song of the Year for their massive hit, “Stay With Me,” as recorded by Sam Smith. Universal Tunes was named Publisher of the Year.
James Napier enjoyed an incredible year with the success of “Stay With Me.” Recorded by British singing sensation Sam Smith, the song topped the charts and won the GRAMMY Award for Song of the Year. Napier also scored big hits with Smith on “I’m Not The Only One,” as well as “Latch” by Disclosure feat. Sam Smith and “La La La” by Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith.
One of the evening’s major highlights was the presentation of the distinguished Visionary Award to Jon Platt, President, North America, for Warner/Chappell Music by legendary hip-hop artist and Public Enemy founder, Chuck D. Called “Publishing’s Pied Piper” by the Hollywood Reporter, Platt has long been recognized as one of the most revered executives in the music industry. Since joining Warner/Chappell, he has been instrumental in attracting a wide range of new and established talent including Jay Z, Beyoncé, Roc Nation’s publishing roster, Mike WiLL Made It, and Aloe Blacc, while continuing to build relationships with songwriters such as Katy Perry, Nate Ruess, Michael Bublé, Barry Gibb and George Michael. While at EMI, Jon personally signed Drake, Kanye West, Young Jeezy, Mary Mary and Snoop Dogg among others at the onset of their careers.
American Authors also received a special SESAC Sync Music Award for their hit, “Best Day Of My Life.” The hit song was the theme song for the NHL 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, featured in trailers for the films “Delivery Man” and “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” and used in advertisements for Lowe’s, Hyundai, Nissan, and Lays among others.
City National Bank was a sponsor of the SESAC Pop Awards. Delta Airlines was the travel partner and The London NYC was the exclusive hotel sponsor.

The event, devoted to educating on all aspects of the music industry through panels, lectures and discussions, featured an impressive array of renowned songwriters, composers and industry professionals.
Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer, Rico Love, was the Keynote Speaker, and delivered an inspiring and informative presentation on his career and advice to creative artists on establishing and prospering in an ever-changing business. Love was also on hand for a Q&A; session with noted music journalist Jessica Herndon. Love, one of music's most in-demand talents, has been named SESAC's Pop Awards Songwriter of the Year for three consecutive years and works with the likes of such superstars as Beyoncé, Nelly, Usher, ASAP Rocky, Lil Wayne, The Wanted, Michelle Williams and Chris Brown among many others.
SESAC Songwriters Bootcamp also featured such panels as The Secret Life of Music Supervisors, which offered information on getting started as a music supervisor and how to get your music noticed in the highly competitive field, Ask The Experts: Advice From Publishers, Music Libraries & Attorneys which addressed various aspects of publishing and negotiating music libraries with insight from top level publishers and lawyers. The Get The Word Out symposium offered attendees information from top level publicists and press personnel on creating effective publicity plans in a Do It Yourself approach. Take Your Shot: Song Critiques From the Experts featured a panel consisting of professionals giving their feedback on songs that were submitted for evaluation.
Other panels included Mix It Up: Making Your Tracks Pop, Intro to Scoring to Picture: How To Get Started in the Film, Television & Game Industries and Advance Scoring to Picture: Practical Notes & Tips From the Top. SESAC Songwriters Bootcamp 2013 concluded with a festive cocktail reception at the Skirball courtyard and featured live music.

Napier and songwriter William Phillips (aka Tourist) were honored with the Song of the Year for their massive hit, “Stay With Me,” as recorded by Sam Smith. Universal Tunes was named Publisher of the Year.
James Napier enjoyed an incredible year with the success of “Stay With Me.” Recorded by British singing sensation Sam Smith, the song topped the charts and won the GRAMMY Award for Song of the Year. Napier also scored big hits with Smith on “I’m Not The Only One,” as well as “Latch” by Disclosure feat. Sam Smith and “La La La” by Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith.
One of the evening’s major highlights was the presentation of the distinguished Visionary Award to Jon Platt, President, North America, for Warner/Chappell Music by legendary hip-hop artist and Public Enemy founder, Chuck D. Called “Publishing’s Pied Piper” by the Hollywood Reporter, Platt has long been recognized as one of the most revered executives in the music industry. Since joining Warner/Chappell, he has been instrumental in attracting a wide range of new and established talent including Jay Z, Beyoncé, Roc Nation’s publishing roster, Mike WiLL Made It, and Aloe Blacc, while continuing to build relationships with songwriters such as Katy Perry, Nate Ruess, Michael Bublé, Barry Gibb and George Michael.
