The Sutlej River (alternatively spelled as Satluj River) (Punjabi: ਸਤਲੁਜ, Hindi: सतलुज, Sanskrit : शतद्रु (shatadru) Urdu: درياۓ ستلُج ) is the longest of the five rivers that flow through the historic crossroads region of Punjab in northern India and Pakistan. It is located north of the Vindhya Range, south of the Hindu Kush segment of the Himalayas, and east of the Central Sulaiman Range in Pakistan. The Sutlej River is also known as Satadree. It is the easternmost tributary of the Indus River.
The waters of the Sutlej are allocated to India under the Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan, and are mostly diverted to irrigation canals in India. There are several major hydroelectric projects on the Sutlej, including the 1,000 MW Bhakra Dam, the 1,000 MW Karcham Wangtoo Hydroelectric Plant, and the 1,530 MW Nathpa Jhakri Dam.
The Upper Sutlej Valley was once known as the Garuda Valley by the Zhangzhung, the ancient civilization of western Tibet. The Garuda Valley was the centre of their empire, which stretched many miles into the nearby Himalayas. The Zhangzhung built a towering palace in the Upper Sutlej Valley called Kyunglung, the ruins of which still exist today near the village of Moincêr, southwest of Mount Kailash (Mount Ti-se). Eventually, the Zhangzhung were conquered by the Tibetan Empire.
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as stream, creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague.
Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Water generally collects in a river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs, and the release of stored water in natural ice and snowpacks (e.g. from glaciers). Potamology is the scientific study of rivers while limnology is the study of inland waters in general.

The Journey of Punjabi Cinema India owes its name to the ancient river Indus on the banks of which one of the most prosperous civilizations flourished. The memories of Harappa and Mohanjodaro still refresh the Indians. A huge varity of rulers ruled over India. While some came from Central Asia others from Greece, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Great Britain. Some looted its wealth and returned; others made it their permanent abode and ruled over it for many centuries. This is one of the reasons that one comes across people of divergent origins in India. There are decedents of different creeds. As India underwent numerous drastic changes on the throne of Delhi, every ruler propounded a philosophy, religion and language which suited his interests. As a result India became a country where hundreds...

Global warming is now a reality, as is evident from the increase in global average atmospheric and oceanic temperatures and widespread melting of snow and ice. Glaciers in Karakoram, Rakaphoshi and Nangaparbat are Pakistan's primary source of water. But some predict that global warming could consume the glaciers in as little as 40 years. In Pakistan, the most dangerous aspect of glacial melting is the large lakes left behind, potential sources of destructive flooding. The rainfall is greatly reduced and highly erratic. The drought and shrinking reservoirs also hurt agricultural productivity. Cotton, rice, sugarcane and maize yields fell by various degrees. The Indus Waters Treaty is a water-sharing treaty between the Republic of India and Islamic Republic of Pakistan, brokered by the World...
