Mattes are used in photography and special effects filmmaking to combine two or more image elements into a single, final image. Usually, mattes are used to combine a foreground image (such as actors on a set, or a spaceship) with a background image (a scenic vista, a field of stars and planets). In this case, the matte is the background painting. In film and stage, mattes can be physically huge sections of painted canvas, portraying large scenic expanses of landscapes.
Matte may refer to:
Adobe Premiere Pro is a timeline-based video editing software application. It is part of the Adobe Creative Cloud, which includes video editing, graphic design, and web development programs.
Premiere Pro is used by broadcasters such as the BBC and CNN. It has been used to edit feature films, such as Gone Girl,Captain Abu Raed, and Monsters, and other venues such as Madonna's Confessions Tour.
Premiere Pro is the redesigned successor to Adobe Premiere, and was launched in 2003. Premiere Pro refers to versions released in 2003 and later, whereas Premiere refers to the earlier releases. Premiere was one of the first computer-based NLEs (non-linear editing system), with its first release on Mac in 1991. Up until version Premiere Pro 2.0 (CS2), the software packaging featured a galloping horse, in a nod to Eadweard Muybridge's work, "Sallie Gardner at a Gallop".
Premiere Pro supports high resolution video editing at up to 10,240 × 8,192resolution, at up to 32-bits per channel color, in both RGB and YUV. Audio sample-level editing, VST audio plug-in support, and 5.1 surround sound mixing are available. Premiere Pro's plug-in architecture enables it to import and export formats beyond those supported by QuickTime or DirectShow, supporting a wide variety of video and audio file formats and codecs on both MacOS and Windows. When used with Cineform's Neo line of plug-ins, it supports 3D editing with the ability to view 3D material using 2D monitors, while making individual left and right eye adjustments.
Adobe After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of filmmaking and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, rotoscoping, compositing and animation. It also functions as a very basic non-linear editor, audio editor and media transcoder.
Adobe After Effects is software primarily used for creating motion graphics and visual effects. It allows users to animate, edit, and compose media in 2D or 3D space with many different built-in tools and third party plug-ins which can be downloaded from the Internet depending on what type of plug in the user is looking for. It also provides individual attention to variables like parallax and also user adjustable angles of observation.
Adobe After Effects is a layer-oriented program. Each individual media object like video clips, still images, audio clips, etc. runs on its own. In contrast, other Non-Linear Editing Systems use a system where individual media objects can occupy the same track as long as they do not overlap at the same time. This track-oriented system is more suitable for editing and can keep project files more simple. The layer oriented system that Adobe After Effects has is suitable for extensive video effects work and also key framing. Other compositing packages, especially the ones that employ tree or node workflows, such as Nuke and Fusion, are better suited to managing complex interconnected data flow within a composite. Adobe After Effects is capable of countering the problem somewhat by selectively hiding layers or by grouping them into pre-compositions.
A film school is any educational institution dedicated to teaching aspects of filmmaking, including such subjects as film production, film theory, digital media production, and screenwriting. Film history courses and hands-on technical training are usually incorporated into most film school curricula. Technical training may include instruction in the use and operation of cameras, lighting equipment, film or video editing equipment and software, and other relevant equipment. Film schools may also include courses and training in such subjects as television production, broadcasting, audio engineering, and animation.
The formal teaching of film began with theory rather than practical technical training starting soon after the development of the film making process in the 1890s. Early film theorists were more interested in writing essays on film theory than in teaching students in a classroom environment. The Moscow Film School was founded in 1919 with Russian filmmakers including Sergei Eisenstein, Vsevolod Pudovkin, and Lev Kuleshov serving as faculty to disseminate their very distinct viewpoints on the purpose of film.
Hi folks, here's a little presentation i did for school. It's a video clip showing several scenes from famous movies which include - in my opinion - some of the most stunning matte paintings in film history. And i think it's just interesting to see how this great visual effect developed in the last 60 years. You can also visit my personal matte painting homepage with some mps i did myself here: http://tlulrich.home.solnet.ch/digitalart.html

View an affordable matte box on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2uKyxX4 A matte box serves two functions: Block stray light from hitting the lens, and to hold square lens filters. Let's start with lens filters, because i can sense you might be wondering what the difference would be to just using the good old screw on circular filters. Now i'll admit, i am a circular filter user, but mainly because i don't use filters all too often so i consider it less hassel to use a lens shade and screw on filters instead of mounting up a matte box which needs a rail system to mount to. But that being said, many people will find great use in square filters because of a few advantages. For one, they mount to the matte box and not the lens, so if you have several lenses to use on a shoot, when you swap out a l...

This specific tutorial is from the DSLR Video Tips series presented by lynda.com authors Rich Harrington and Robbie Carman. The complete DSLR Video Tips course is presented as a weekly lynda.com series and covers the most common questions videographers encounter when shooting and editing with DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) cameras, from choosing a frame size and frame rate to understanding moiré. This digital video tutorial explains what a matte box is, and how it can protect your video from flares and also hold filters for your camera. http://cinecom.xyz/VideoBlocks - The look of professional lighting can be cheap. This tutorial shows the cheapest light solution and how to use it for professional results. Light is almost as important as the camera you're filming with. You can say more about a scene with the color of the light, the shadows or general look and feel then words can describe. With the correct light setup you can completely control the mood and atmosphere of the scene and bring your video to a more professional look. In one of our previous videos we explain the three point lighting technique that creates more depth within a scene. But as you probably already know, professional lighting is expensive and if you're a beginning filmmaker or a hobbyist, it's not so easy to buy a good light kit. So in this tutoria...

Photoshop CC tutorial showing how to apply the cinematic effect to your photographs. The cinematic effect that we're going for is the teal-orange look, which is a typical movie effect in action movies. This effect gives the dark shades of your image a cool teal tone, while the light shades take a warm orange look. This makes the actor stand out since the colors are complementary and creates a "pop"when put side by side. It is a good idea to do a color correction on your image, so you that it has neutral grays and no color cast. My favorite filmmaking gear: https://kit.com/whoismatt Color grading has always been one of my favorite facets of cinematography. Think about the warm reds and oranges of Mad Max, or the darker hues of The Revenant. The ability of a colorist to alter the mood and feel of a film through hues and saturation is incredibly powerful. I've been wanting to make a color grading tutorial for years, but it wasn't about a year ago that I felt that I had learned enough to even consider doing that. I knew that the time was right when I finished creating my video about my favorite picture profile for the A7Sii. That does not mean that this tutorial only applies to wedding films shot with the A7Sii or any other camera for that matter. The philosophy, curves, and color wheels, should apply to any video ...
