We awake in an unknown but inviting surrounding after our nocturnal arrival in Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir (Turkey). Our apartment is well equipped without useless luxury. On our way to the open air restaurant we awe at the splendid blue of the sea which pops up as an emerald between the red roofs of the utility buildings of our holiday resort. The temperature of the air is lovely after weeks of chillness and rain in western Europe.
After the abundant breakfast buffet we meet our local travel agent and book two excursions for the coming week. He speaks German fluently being born and raised in Germany.
Then Murat, who we met last night at the reception, awaits us (and other guests) with a smile and leads us around the resort. First we visit the lower swimming pool near the kindergarten where a young German hostess welcomes us with "Hello sweet children!" ("Hallo liebe Kinder!"). Behind her a bunch of toddlers are busy painting or doing whatever. The mood is pleasant. Their parents enjoy holiday somewhere in the spacious resort.
In this video you are treated on somewhat long panoramas with the sea in the background from different points of view. The last one seen from the Hammam where one can enjoy all kinds of massage.
The next location is the yard of a typical Turkish coffeehouse where specially at night one can enjoy typical Turkish delights as music, dancing, water pipe, Turkish coffee, belly dancing, Turkish snacks.
Then a visit to the resort beach adjacent to the public beach. Here lessons in sailing, diving and surfing are given up to world class level which can be certificated. Boats and equipment can be hired or bought.
The Aegean coast is rough causing clear water suitable for diving. Murat takes us to a vantage point from where we see the little bay, with terrace next to the amphi theatre where at night performances are taken place.
After lunch (again abunded food offered to everybody's delight) my wife chooses for a massage in the Hammam while I decide to examine the surroundings of our resort. It seems to be under development. Beautiful houses with sea view have been built while there is still plenty of space for more to come.
Back in our apartment our bed has been made while beautifully decorated with folded towels (in heart shape) and tree leaves! What a surprise!
The video ends with a sunset over the open restaurant during supper. Tonight long sticks of roasted lamb are served among many other delicacies...

This video has been made of pictures taken with help of a mobile phone. Shows the panorama seen from the restaurant terrace of Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir (Turkey). When lying on the deck chairs behind the terrace and the edge of the resort near the bay one will be visited by lovely kitten. Seven of them belong to a rather young pussy cat which dwells in the bush on the edge. Some guest feed them near the bush and tame them so that the kitten will climb onto your leap and give you company for a while and eventually will leave you in order to greet another guest on the terrace.

Today it is raining for the first and last time during our ten days stay in Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir in Turkey. Sitting under the shelter of a decoratively woven canopy we enjoy the change in light, the lack of population, the hurrying of the personnel in order to save table ware from getting wet. The rain lasts for a few hours. The afternoon is dry and sunny again.
The evening yields beautiful colours in the sky when we stroll over the green lawns along the rocky coast of the resort.
Standing on a high level one gets a superb sight over the resort.
The amphi theatre draws us again like it did last night. Now the lights along the path to it are lit and provide a beautiful glow in the dusk.
Eventually we enter the restaurant welcomed by members of the animation team of whom a guy is dressed like a princess, while his female colleague wears the outfit of an English gentleman from around the year of 1900.
See the abundance of dishes so well exposed for hungry guests. Skewers with lamb or minced meat on the BBQ. Then to the restaurant terrace and find a nice table in the falling night.
The video ends with a view of the indoor theatre where kids are being amused by two kindergarten teachers who easily swing and dance to a tune while the kids imitate their movements. It is the end of a special day once again!

This video starts with the morning light seen on our way to the breakfast buffet on the terrace of the restaurant of Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir (Turkey). The next shoot is taken after breakfast on our way to Sığacık, about half an hour walking. Of course a Dolmuş (small bus) would save time but now we can stop near the harbour and have a look at the yachts. Eventually we reach the boulevard with its charming open restaurants. We seem to be the first visitors today. Then we stroll to the small 'burç' (bastion) and admire the intricate building technique of the dome roof. Next we take the stairs up the building and enjoy the splendid panorama over the sea, harbour and small town. We dream away to an sailing vessel of our own and to visits to make to harbours around the Aegean. We descend the dome roof and call on at Liman Restaurant for a cup of coffee. Admire the varnishing of the wall painting which clears up the colours. A cat on the wall above the painting keeps an eye on the painter.
An abrupt change in the video to our holiday resort in the dusk on our way to the amphi theatre where a game is being played bases on concentrating of the mind. Nelleke, my wife, hooks off when she remains with two competitors, realizing that she might be obliged to join a belly dancer when she would win...
On our way from the amphi theatre some views of the small bay beyond and the rocky wall beside the pass way. One punch for the 'road' at the bar. Then 'at home' the surprise of a new bed decoration. Everyday a different one. Lovely!

Flying in an airplane remains exiting. No matter how often you fly. For you never know what will happen during the flight. There are variables as the weather, the passengers, the crew, the meals, the plane. Sometimes there is a plane in the distance that flies a parallel route with your plane. So as long as I have a window seat or one next to it I gaze outside and compare what I see on the ground or sea with the geographical map, shown on the flat screen before me from time to time. It tickles my memories of geography lessons at school.
During this flight I enjoy the sunset when we leave the Greek archipelago and enter the Turkish airspace flying over the Greek island of Chios and aiming for İzmir airport.
Gradually the avian video images converse into ones of road traffic in the darkness on the stretch between İzmir airport and Sefarihizar about 80 kilometers west of İzmir. Our taxi driver drives fast and risky. As he appears not to understand any west European language we don't communicate until he stops at a petrol station and buys three bottles of water for the three of us which he hands with a smile. That makes him a more human being, so we stand his car manoeuvres better now.
After having left İzmir airport three quarters of an hour ago the taxi arrives at our destination: Club Resort Atlantis in the little coast town of Sıǧacık (which is pronounced as 'Surajuk', yes with an English 'r' and both 'u' pronounced as in 'truck'. This is your first Turkish lesson.)
At the reception desk we are welcomed by a Turkish young man who appears to speak German fluently. He helps with checking in and invites us for a stroll over the resort for tomorrow.
Then we enter a waiting pick up car before the entrance of the main building. That's to say: my wife takes the seat beside the driver, and I jump into the open cargo unit between our luggage in order to video the way to our apartment. But darkness keeps the surroundings secret...

Izmir (Turkish: İzmir) is a large metropolis in the western extremity of Anatolia. The metropolitan area in the entire Izmir Province had a population of 3.95 million as of 2010, making the city third most populous in Turkey. We awake in an unknown but inviting surrounding after our nocturnal arrival in Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir (Turkey). Our apartment is well equipped without useless luxury. On our way to the open air restaurant we awe at the splendid blue of the sea which pops up as an emerald between the red roofs of the utility buildings of our holiday resort. The temperature of the air is lovely after weeks of chillness and rain in western Europe. After the abundant breakfast buffet we meet our local travel agent and book two excursions for the coming week. He speaks German fluently being born and raised in Germany. This video has been made of pictures taken with help of a mobile phone. Shows the panorama seen from the restaurant terrace of Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir (Turkey). When lying on the deck chairs behind the terrace and the edge of the resort near the bay one will be visited by lovely kitten. Seven of them belong to a rather young pussy cat which dwells in the bush on the edge. Some guest feed them near the bush and tame them so that the kitten will climb onto your leap and give you company for a while and eventually will leave you in order to greet another guest on the terrace. Today it is raining for the first and last time during our ten days stay in Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir in Turkey. Sitting under the shelter of a decoratively woven canopy we enjoy the change in light, the lack of population, the hurrying of the personnel in order to save table ware from getting wet. The rain lasts for a few hours. The afternoon is dry and sunny again. The evening yields beautiful colours in the sky when we stroll over the green lawns along the rocky coast of the resort. Standing on a high level one gets a superb sight over the resort. The amphi theatre draws us again like it did last night. This video starts with the morning light seen on our way to the breakfast buffet on the terrace of the restaurant of Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir (Turkey). The next shoot is taken after breakfast on our way to Sığacık, about half an hour walking. Of course a Dolmuş (small bus) would save time but now we can stop near the harbour and have a look at the yachts. Eventually we reach the boulevard with its charming open restaurants. We seem to be the first visitors today. Then we stroll to the small 'burç' (bastion) and admire the intricate building technique of the dome roof. Next we take the stairs up the building and enjoy the splendid panorama over the sea, harbour and small town. Flying in an airplane remains exiting. No matter how often you fly. For you never know what will happen during the flight. There are variables as the weather, the passengers, the crew, the meals, the plane. Sometimes there is a plane in the distance that flies a parallel route with your plane. So as long as I have a window seat or one next to it I gaze outside and compare what I see on the ground or sea with the geographical map, shown on the flat screen before me from time to time. It tickles my memories of geography lessons at school. During this flight I enjoy the sunset when we leave the Greek archipelago and enter the Turkish airspace flying over the Greek island of Chios and aiming for İzmir airport. After breakfast a small bus takes us to İzmir, Turkey's third biggest city. On our way to it our bus picks up our guide, a Turk in his thirties who speaks German fluently. We awake in an unknown but inviting surrounding after our nocturnal arrival in Club Resort Atlantis near Sığacık west of İzmir (Turkey). Our apartment is well equipped without useless luxury. On our way to the open air restaurant we awe at the splendid blue of the sea which pops up as an emerald between the red roofs of the utility buildings of our holiday resort. The temperature of the air is lovely after weeks of chillness and rain in western Europe.
After the abundant breakfast buffet we meet our local travel agent and book two excursions for the coming week. He speaks German fluently being born and raised in Germany.
Then Murat, who we met last night at the reception, awaits us (and other guests) with a smile and leads us around the resort. First we visit the lower swimming pool near the kindergarten where a young German hostess welcomes us with "Hello sweet children!" ("Hallo liebe Kinder!"). Behind her a bunch of toddlers are busy painting or doing whatever. The mood is pleasant. Their parents enjoy holiday somewhere in the spacious resort.
In this video you are treated on somewhat long panoramas with the sea in the background from different points of view. The last one seen from the Hammam where one can enjoy all kinds of massage.
The next location is the yard of a typical Turkish coffeehouse where specially at night one can enjoy typical Turkish delights as music, dancing, water pipe, Turkish coffee, belly dancing, Turkish snacks.
Then a visit to the resort beach adjacent to the public beach. Here lessons in sailing, diving and surfing are given up to world class level which can be certificated. Boats and equipment can be hired or bought.
The Aegean coast is rough causing clear water suitable for diving. Murat takes us to a vantage point from where we see the little bay, with terrace next to the amphi theatre where at night performances are taken place.
After lunch (again abunded food offered to everybody's delight) my wife chooses for a massage in the Hammam while I decide to examine the surroundings of our resort. It seems to be under development. Beautiful houses with sea view have been built while there is still plenty of space for more to come.
Back in our apartment our bed has been made while beautifully decorated with folded towels (in heart shape) and tree leaves! What a surprise!
The video ends with a sunset over the open restaurant during supper. Tonight long sticks of roasted lamb are served among many other delicacies...

See the abundance of dishes so well exposed for hungry guests. Skewers with lamb or minced meat on the BBQ. Then to the restaurant terrace and find a nice table in the falling night.
The video ends with a view of the indoor theatre where kids are being amused by two kindergarten teachers who easily swing and dance to a tune while the kids imitate their movements. It is the end of a special day once again!

Admire the varnishing of the wall painting which clears up the colours. A cat on the wall above the painting keeps an eye on the painter.
An abrupt change in the video to our holiday resort in the dusk on our way to the amphi theatre where a game is being played bases on concentrating of the mind. Nelleke, my wife, hooks off when she remains with two competitors, realizing that she might be obliged to join a belly dancer when she would win...
On our way from the amphi theatre some views of the small bay beyond and the rocky wall beside the pass way. One punch for the 'road' at the bar. Then 'at home' the surprise of a new bed decoration. Everyday a different one. Lovely!

Flying in an airplane remains exiting. No matter how often you fly. For you never know what will happen during the flight. There are variables as the weather, the passengers, the crew, the meals, the plane. Sometimes there is a plane in the distance that flies a parallel route with your plane. So as long as I have a window seat or one next to it I gaze outside and compare what I see on the ground or sea with the geographical map, shown on the flat screen before me from time to time. It tickles my memories of geography lessons at school.
During this flight I enjoy the sunset when we leave the Greek archipelago and enter the Turkish airspace flying over the Greek island of Chios and aiming for İzmir airport.
Gradually the avian video images converse into ones of road traffic in the darkness on the stretch between İzmir airport and Sefarihizar about 80 kilometers west of İzmir. Our taxi driver drives fast and risky. As he appears not to understand any west European language we don't communicate until he stops at a petrol station and buys three bottles of water for the three of us which he hands with a smile. That makes him a more human being, so we stand his car manoeuvres better now.
After having left İzmir airport three quarters of an hour ago the taxi arrives at our destination: Club Resort Atlantis in the little coast town of Sıǧacık (which is pronounced as 'Surajuk', yes with an English 'r' and both 'u' pronounced as in 'truck'. This is your first Turkish lesson.)
At the reception desk we are welcomed by a Turkish young man who appears to speak German fluently. He helps with checking in and invites us for a stroll over the resort for tomorrow.
Then we enter a waiting pick up car before the entrance of the main building. That's to say: my wife takes the seat beside the driver, and I jump into the open cargo unit between our luggage in order to video the way to our apartment. But darkness keeps the surroundings secret...

Every holiday a breakfast like this in this ambiance makes a holiday unforgettable! The weather is fine as it was all our days before. All people around us are at ease. This is paradise!
After breakfast a small bus takes us to İzmir, Turkey's third biggest city. On our way to it our bus picks up our guide, a Turk in his thirties who speaks German fluently. He must be a historian or at least a history teacher, so much information he is able to give.
After Sefarihisar we take the highway to İzmir and enjoy beautiful landscapes and sea views passing by.
Our goal is the Hisar Camii mosque and adjacent karavanserai. A karavanserai is a kind of a giant inn for one or more caravans (caravan in the meaning of a herd of camels carrying cargo on their backs) which were centuries ago established in a raster of forty kilometres one from another. That's the distance a camel can walk in one day. The karavanserai provides besides shelter and good food for the guests and their animals also plateaus for worshipping as during the day islamic caravan people mostly don't have the opportunity for worshiping.
Turkey seems to be the only Islamic country where non islamic visitors are allowed to enter mosques. They should be decently dressed and a guard looks to it and appears to have gear at hand to camouflage shorts, miniskirts and boops.
The interior of the mosque Hizar Camii appears to be wonderful!
Eventually we stroll to the nearby bazar, to an open air coffee house, to the ferry boat. The greenish vessel which shows up in the middle of the screen has recently been dredged from the bottom of this gulf. A water tour follows with views of a passing cruiser, the silhouette of İzmir which appears to be a modern city apart from the old centre around the Hisar Camii mosque
At the end of the day back in 'our' cosy Club Resort Atlantis a traditional Turkish buffet is waiting for us. Three Turkish female cooks are prostrated in front of the restaurant preparing enormous pancake like pastry.
Back in our room we are surprised by again an new towel design with green leaves on our bed. A talented chamber maid is spoiling us!

Capital of the Republic of Turkey, Ankara is today one of the country’s most modern cities and a vibrant world metropolis that offers a diverse variety of leisure time activities as well as being steeped in both history and tradition. On a hill to the north is the largest and most splendid mosque in Turkey, Kocatepe Camii. Between 1967 and 1988 the imposing tower was constructed with the help of private donations. It is a replica of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, has four minarets, and accommodates around twenty thousand worshippers. Ankara’s old town is overlooked by a castle mound upon which the city’s citadel extends above the pinnacle. The city’s oldest settlement area is surrounded by one of the mighty castle walls and dates back to the time of the Hittites. The slope of the hill in front of the citadel is completely covered with Gecekondus, a mass of quickly-constructed buildings which at first only consisted of walls and a roof. They are unique buildings and many of those who reside in them originate from the region of the same name. There is a splendid zoo in the western outskirts of the city which, as with many of the city’s parks, originated in the early years of the Republic. Atatürk believed that parks and leisure areas in general were essential to the good health of the nation and hence of the new national capital. Ankara, Turkey’s capital city, is full of contradictions and yet it is the extraordinary charm of this remarkable metropolis that makes everything make sense
