The Battle of Manzikert, or Malazgirt, was fought between the Byzantine Empire and Seljuq forces led by Alp Arslan on August 26, 1071 near Manzikert (modern Malazgirt in Muş Province, Turkey). The decisive defeat of the Byzantine army and the capture of the Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes[5] played an important role in undermining Byzantine authority in middle and eastern Anatolia.[6]
The brunt of the battle was borne by the professional soldiers from the eastern and western tagmata, as large numbers of the mercenaries and Anatolian levies fled early and survived the battle.[7] The fallout from Manzikert was near disastrous for the empire, with subsequent numerous civil conflicts and an economic crisis severely weakening the empire's ability to adequately defend its borders.[8]This led to the mass movement of Turks into central Anatolia and by 1080, an area of 30,000 square miles (78,000 km2) had been lost to the empire. It took a decade of internal strife before Alexios I Komnenos (1081 to 1118) brought stability back to the empire.

Members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) abducted a soldier and a local in the southeastern province of Muş on Monday, the Turkish military has said.
According to a statement released by the General Staff on its website on Wednesday, a specialist corporal and a resident of an area between the towns of Mescitli and Bostankent were abducted by PKK members on Monday evening around 8:30 p.m.
The statement added that an investigation has been launched into the incident by the authorities.
The PKK also reportedly abducted two other Muş residents on May 11.

The user, Allah, or @CenabiAllah, was charged with "humiliating the religious values accepted by a part of the people," according to Turkish news website Hurriyet Daily News. Prosecutors in Muş province went after the use, whom Hurriyet says is a teacher named "Ertan P."—for using the name of God in his Twitter handle and for tweeting messages against the government.

Among the historical sites of the Mush province are two of the holiest Armenian sites:
the Saint Karapet Monastery, which was founded in the 4th century by Saint Gregory the Illuminator and kept the relices of Saint John the Baptist. It was destroyed to its foundations by the Turkish army after the Armenian Genocide.

Members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) abducted a soldier and a local in the southeastern province of Muş on Monday, the Turkish military has said.
According to a statement released by the General Staff on its website on Wednesday, a specialist corporal and a resident of an area between the towns of Mescitli and Bostankent were abducted by PKK members on Monday evening around 8:30 p.m.
The statement added that an investigation has been launched into the incident by the authorities.
The PKK also reportedly abducted two other Muş residents on May 11.
