Danger is a fundamental part of the roller coaster experience. Think about it – if there was no element of danger attached to a towering coaster armed with drops, loops and plenty of speed, where would that adrenaline rush come from that thrill seekers crave so much? You know logically that you aren’t going to crash headlong into the ground below you as you plunge into a free fall from hundreds of feet above, but that moment wouldn’t be nearly as exciting if at least a part of your brain wasn’t going “uh-oh…”.
Yet, even are deepest, darkest fears are realized every now and then. For the hundreds of millions of roller coaster rides that go off without a hitch at amusement parks and carnivals all over the world, there is the extremely rare and terrifying case of a ride that doesn’t exactly go as planned. You see, part of the reason why these mammoth structures seem daunting and formidable is because they are. These twisting, swooping gargantuan conglomerations are scary by design, meaning that they are deliberately intended to test the limits of their own safety features. The idea of putting your life in the hands of a teenaged ride operator or a sketchy-looking carny is not something that most people want to consider when they strap themselves in.
Thankfully, stories of fatal roller coaster incidents remain few and far between, with modern technology helping make them even more rare. While the documentation of such incidents is admittedly spotty, a 2005 report from the Consumer Product Safety Commission counted 52 known deaths related to roller coaster accidents in the United States between 1990 and 2004. On average, that means less than four deaths per year on rides despite a level of popularity that saw 290 million tickets sold by US amusement parks in 2010.
But hey, this isn’t a list of the “10 Times Roller Coasters Ran Safely and Without Incident”. On the odd occasion that things go wrong, they can ultimately go very, very wrong. And in a hurry, too. For the solid safety record and security features of modern coasters, a loose screw here and an overly rambunctious rider can turn to tragedy awfully quick.
Look, we’re not trying to send you screaming in the opposite direction of your local Six Flags. Still, there’s something fundamentally fascinating about the stark contrast between the thrilling highs of a smooth ride and the devastating horror of a ride gone wrong. Morbid curiosity over roller coaster disasters has yielded a cult of followers, including a website dedicated to tracking ride accidents called RideAccidents.com which identifies itself as “world's most comprehensive source of amusement ride accident reports and related news”.
Without any further ado, here are 10 crazy cases of roller coaster rides gone terribly wrong:

Amusement and theme parks are terms for a group of entertainment attractions and rides and other events in a location for the enjoyment of large numbers of people. An amusement park is more elaborate than a simple city park or playground, usually providing attractions meant to cater specifically to certain age groups, as well as some that are aimed towards all ages.
Amusement parks evolved in Europe from fairs and pleasure gardens which were created for people's recreation. The oldest amusement park in the world (opened 1583) is Bakken, at Klampenborg, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. In the United States, world's fairs and expositions were another influence on development of the amusement park industry.
Most amusement parks have a fixed location, as compared to traveling funfairs and carnivals. These temporary types of amusement parks are usually present for a few days or weeks per year, such as funfairs in the United Kingdom, and carnivals (temporarily set up in a vacant lot or parking lots) and fairs (temporarily operated in a fair ground) in the United States. The temporary nature of these fairs helps to convey the feeling that people are in a different place or time.

Yet, even are deepest, darkest fears are realized every now and then. For the hundreds of millions of roller coaster rides that go off without a hitch at amusement parks and carnivals all over the world, there is the extremely rare and terrifying case of a ride that doesn’t exactly go as planned. You see, part of the reason why these mammoth structures seem daunting and formidable is because they are. These twisting, swooping gargantuan conglomerations are scary by design, meaning that they are deliberately intended to test the limits of their own safety features. The idea of putting your life in the hands of a teenaged ride operator or a sketchy-looking carny is not something that most people want to consider when they strap themselves in.
Thankfully, stories of fatal roller coaster incidents remain few and far between, with modern technology helping make them even more rare. Lego Friends Amusement Park Ferris Wheel Roller Coaster Part 2 Build Review Silly Play - Kids Toys

The ferris wheel is beautifully engineered and spins so smoothly and the minidolls sit snugly inside. I was SO excited when this Lego Friends Roller Coaster was announced! The whole Amusement Park theme promises to be so much fun and I’m really looking forward to building them all! This is the biggest set of them all - Lego Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster 41130 - which is more than just (just!) a mere roller coaster - it has a ferris wheel and a drop tower and lots of other cool details to start setting up our Heartlake City Amusement Park! There is so much to see - there are four minidolls, Emma, Andrea, Naya and Matthew - and this is the first Lego Friends set to include a light brick which is a very cute feature. This video features the roller coaster build itself and I’m trying to think of how to attach an engine to the roller coaster carriages with a remote to make it even more ... -

Then take a gentle ride on the Ferris wheel or head to the drop tower, pull down your safety bar and go spinning down to the ground. Afterwards there are photos to buy and food to share with friends. You won't want your day at the Amusement Park to end!

So I've been following this game on Steam the last couple of weeks waiting for it to release, and to my own surprise managed to really avoid much of what the game is about. I knew it involved a creepy amusement park, and that was good enough for me.
