The Adamawa State government is reportedly set to train 10,000 hunters to join the fight against Boko Haram. The trainees will also include members of the local vigilante and the group now known as the Civilian Joint Task Force aka Civilian JTF. This was disclosed by the State Governor, Mr. James Ngilari , on Monday, November 17, through his spokesperson, Mr. PP Elisha.
Elisha reportedly said that the government had opted to train the locals to enable them understand the rules of engagement which would help them tackle the terrorists the right way. This does not give them a licence to take laws into their hands by harassing or arresting innocent members of the society,” he said.
He added that the trainees would be enlisted as members of the Civilian JTF to fortify the towns and assist the military in uprooting Boko Haram from the state. Local hunters in Adamawa scored a victory after they killed 75 terrorists in Maiha town and also aided the military in chasing out the insurgents from previously captured Mubi.

The kidnapping led to a global campaign online #BringBackOurGirls, backed by Nobel prize-winning Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai and Angelina Jolie, and criticism of the Nigerian government for its failure to rescue the girls and to tackle the rising violence of Boko Haram in Nigeria's lawless north east.
In recent months, a spate of suicide attacks by the group in Nigeria have left hundreds dead.
In an interview with IBTimes UK on the sidelines of the Global Education Forum conference in Dubai, Obasanjo said that while 79% of Nigerians received education in the south west of the country and 77% in the south east, in the Boko Haram stronghold of the north east that figure was just 19%.
"We don't need [anyone] to tell [us] that that is a problem. A problem of disparity, a problem of marginalisation. A problem because education is fundamental to your employability, to your living conditions. If you are not educated you are handicapped," he said.
But he said that while improving access to education was the carrot, the stick had to come first, and criticised the current administration of President Goodluck Jonathan for failing to act fast enough in taking the fight to Boko Haram. That failure, he said, had given the group confidence to spread to neighbouring Chad and Cameroon.
"The response of the government initially was definitely not enough. When Boko Haram started showing their fangs about four years ago the reaction should have been firm and unmistakable. We have lost ground," he said.
Obasanjo said that the spread of Boko Haram into other countries had provoked a regional response and that both Chad and Cameroon were involved in the military campaign against the terror group.
But he added that once progress had been made, Nigeria should not rule out engaging with the militants.
"If Boko Haram is ready to talk, [we should talk]. But by the time they are ready to talk they will need to be pounded a little bit militarily: at that stage they will be ready to talk," he said.
A one time ally of President Jonathan, Obasanjo led Nigeria as military ruler for three years from 1976 to 1979 and then as an elected president from 1999 to 2007. He was responsible for transitioning Nigeria to democracy for the first time in 1979, even if a military coup in 1983 brought an end to that brief reprieve.
He publicly spilt with Jonathan earlier this year, when he gave back his membership card of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and instructed a former colleague to tear it up on live TV.

wn.com/Olusegun Obasanjo Nigeria Should Talk To Isis Affiliated Boko Haram But Attack Them First
The kidnapping led to a global campaign online #BringBackOurGirls, backed by Nobel prize-winning Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai and Angelina Jolie, and criticism of the Nigerian government for its failure to rescue the girls and to tackle the rising violence of Boko Haram in Nigeria's lawless north east.

Two suicide bomb attacks killed at least 13 people and injured 32 others in northern Cameroon, the president's office said, in what appeared to be the deepest incursion by Boko Haram takfiri terrorists from neighboring Nigeria.
The first explosion hit a market and the second a densely populated neighborhood, both in the capital of Cameroon's Far North region, Maroua, a military source said.
No one claimed responsibility, but Boko Haram has stepped up attacks on the countries bordering its northeast Nigerian stronghold - Chad, Niger as well as Cameroon.
All three have contributed troops to a regional offensive against the terrorist group who has allied themselves to the so-called Islamic State terrorist group and poses one of the biggest security threats in the combustible region.

Many Nigerians have expressed shock & anger after watching the dramatic take over of Gorzia town by Boko Haram extremists.
This video captured Nigerian Soldiers running on top of the hill, one of the soldiers fell down in his desperate bid to escape being killed.
Also, a very tired man with arms wearing a Nigerian Military Uniform was seen limping. These Soldiers from all account may have been killed by Boko Haram extremists.
While this drama was going on, the Nigerian honorable Minister of information was seen yesterday saying that no part of Nigeria has fallen into the hands of this terror group called -Boko Haram!
Boko Haram insurgents are actually fighting like trained soldiers. They have sophisticated fighting gears, above all, this deadly group appears more organized and well funded.
Who is actually providing them with these modern fighting weapons?
Nigerian Army must do more to flush Boko Haram out. Right now, the Goodluck Jonathan and his advisers are grappling with fries!

The Nigerian army has stated that it has regained control of Chibok in Borno, which was previously captured by Boko Haram members. The terrorists captured the town, which is home to the over 200 abducted schoolgirls, on Friday, November 14. The army said in a statement signed by Colonel Timothy Antigha, the Chief of Staff, Department of Army Public Relations:
“The Nigerian Army troops recaptured Chibok at about 7pm last (Saturday) night from Boko Haram insurgents. The town is now secured. Exploitation and mop-up operations are ongoing. More details will follow as soon as they are available.”
However, an elder of the Chibok community, Pogu Bitrus told AFP that the town was recaptured by a joint team of soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force. Pogu said the vigilantes fought inside the town while the soldiers “stayed outside the town to mop up the insurgents trying to escape”.

From Washington, this is VOA news. Greek police may have a break in the investigation of terrorist activity in Belgium. I'm Vincent Bruce reporting.
Greek police say they have detained at least four people for questioning in connection with a foiled terrorist plot to attack Belgian police. A police source says authorities are seeking to determine if the four arrested on Saturday include Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the suspected mastermind of the suspected terrorist cell dismantled by Belgian police on Thursday.
In Cameroon, Chadian troops arrived Saturday to help the Central African nation fight the Nigerian terrorists of Boko Haram. Moki Edwin Kindzeka reports from Yaounde.
Cameroon state radio journalist Said Abdoul Karim, who is based in the town of Kousseri on the border with Chad, told VOA in a telephone interview that thousands of Chadian soldiers came into Cameroon in a convoy of military trucks Saturday morning.
Chad said last Wednesday that it would support Cameroon, whose president, Paul Biya, had appealed for a coordinated international response to Boko Haram.
Moki Edwin Kindzeka, VOA news, Yaounde.
The French embassy in Niger's capital, Niamey, issued a statement on its website Saturday warning French citizens not to go out on the streets -- that as demonstrators in Niamey have set fire to churches on a second day violent protests against French magazine Charlie HebdoS cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.
Five people were killed Friday in Niger in anti-Charlie Hebdo rioting.

Israel has spoken out about the International Criminal Court decision to consider the possibility that war crimes were committed against the Palestinians last year. Robert Berger has more for VOA from Jerusalem.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blasted the International Criminal Court in The Hague for launching a preliminary inquiry into possible war crimes during the Gaza conflict last year.
"... given that Israel is legitimately defending itself against Palestinian terrorists who routinely commit multiple war crimes."
Hamas, meanwhile, welcomed the court decision, saying Israel committed horrible crimes against the Palestinian people.
More than 2,100 Palestinians and 73 Israelis were killed during the 50-day conflict.
Robert Berger, for VOA news, Jerusalem.
Both Israel and the United States have criticized the decision by the International Criminal Court, again which [has considered] is considering the possibility that war crimes were committed against the Palestinians last year.
A truck fire has halted rail service through the Channel Tunnel between Britain and France.
Tunnel operator Eurotunnel said Saturday that it had suspended service due to smoke and was investigating the cause. Police say a truck fire at the French end of the tunnel was the source of the smoke. No injuries were reported.
Eurostar said no trains would be running Saturday and recommended passengers "postpone" their travel plans and not come to train stations.
Eurostar, which runs the trains that go through the passage under the English Channel, said the smoke was detected in the north tunnel.
Ukraine rushed fresh troops and supplies Saturday to the devastated remains of a key airport near the Russian border as explosions and heavy rebel gunfire shook the area and hopes for peace talks continued to fade.
Troops described the shelling by pro-Russian separatists at Donetsk airport as some of the worst of the nine-month rebellion, with the French news agency reporting as many as six new fatalities.
Meanwhile, a new round of peace talks that Kyiv had hoped might take place between Ukraine's government and Russian-backed rebels failed to materialize.
Pope Francis was forced to flee a tropical storm in the Philippines Saturday, cutting short his visit with survivors of the deadly November, 2013 Supertyphoon Haiyan.
Bad weather led the pope and his aides to fly back to the Philippine capital, Manila, hours earlier than expected. He is scheduled to wrap up his four-day visit to the island nation Sunday where the huge open-air Mass (is) expected to draw some six million people.

Nigeria’s military says more than 200 members of the Takfiri Boko Haram militant group have surrendered during the battle for the northeastern town of Banki.
The military said the members of Boko Haram gave themselves up Friday as Nigerian forces regained control of the border town, from where the militants had been carrying out attacks on Cameroon territory.
The military earlier said the town had been liberated but there was no independent confirmation. It had also announced the arrest of over 40 Boko Haram suspects and the release of more than 240 women and children thought to have been held by the group in the town.
Nearly 20,000 people are said to have been killed in the six-year Boko Haram militancy, mainly in northern Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari has given his military commanders until early November to end the militancy.

This video for Cameron Highlands is one of our older productions, but we wanted to share it with you to get some feedback on how these older clips compare to the more recent travel guides we’ve shot. Far to the northwest in Pahang, just 125 miles from sprawling Kuala Lumpur, are the Cameron Highlands. When you venture into the cool, misty depths of this mountain wonderland, you’ll be witness to some of the most exquisite landscapes in Malaysia. At nearly 5,000 feet meters above sea level, a trip to these forested areas will stick with you for the rest of your life.
The Cameron Highlands are named after Scottish surveyor William Cameron. He stumbled upon the lush valleys of the highlands in the late 1800s, and found the gorgeous environment and cool air too enticing to leave. Colonial Britons living in Malaysia trekked to the highlands to escape the heat and humidity of the rest of the island. Today, the Cameron Highlands are a quiet, relaxing retreat for those who are looking for a slower pace of life. You won’t find high-end resorts here, but rather quaint inns, many of which hail from the colonial era and are lovingly preserved by owners and caretakers.
If you’re a fan of tea, your Cameron Highlands sightseeing will include stops at local tea plantations. This is a holdover from British times; the colonists brought their love of tea with them, and upon realizing tea plants could be grown in the Cameron Highlands, great rolling hills of plants appeared in the rolling highlands. But you’ll still find wide swaths of jungle and forested area, flooded with wildlife and the sounds of birds and insects. A Cameron Highlands tour, above all, is a reminder of nature’s beauty.
