Jomo Kenyatta (English pronunciation: /ˈdʒoʊmoʊ kɛnˈjɑːtə/) (c. 1891 – 22 August 1978) was a Kenyan politician, and the first President of Kenya.
Kenyatta was the leader of Kenya from independence in 1963 to his death in 1978, serving first as Prime Minister (1963–64) and then as President (1964–78). He is considered the founding father of the Kenyan nation.
Kenyatta was a well-educated intellectual who authored several books, and is remembered as a Pan-Africanist. He is also the father of Kenya's fourth and current President, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Numerous institutions and locations are named after Kenyatta, including Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi's main street and main streets in many Kenyan cities and towns, numerous schools, two universities (Kenyatta University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology), the country's main referral hospital, markets and housing estates. A statue in Nairobi's centre and monuments all over Kenya stand in his honour. Kenya observed a public holiday every 20 October in his honour until the 2010 constitution abolished Kenyatta Day and replaced it with Mashujaa (Heroes') day. Before the enactment of the new constitution, Kenyatta's face adorned Kenyan currency notes and coins of all denominations (save the 40 shilling coin).

As we commemorate this coming Jamhuri Day; 12th December, we capture one of Kenya's founding fathers Mzee Jomo Kenyatta with emphasis on his key highlights of his speeches leading to Kenya gaining independence from British colonial rule in 1963.
When President Uhuru Kenyatta stood before the crowd at the Sagana State Lodge on Thursday, something was different about him. President Kenyatta had an energetic, jovial, almost buoyant aura about him. He had set the mood when he sauntered into the hall a few minutes past 5pm, apologised for keeping everyone waiting, and then started introducing governors and Cabinet Secretaries. It was a near-comedic affair. NTV's BMJ Muriithi reports.

Relations between Kenya and Namibia are said to have deepened when Kenya's founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta donated a land rover to Namibia's first President Dr. Sam Nujoma. Since then, cordial ties between Windhoek and Nairobi have seen more than 200 Kenyan nurses and doctors seconded to Namibia, while trade between the two countries continues to soar, both in volume and value terms. Our reporter is back from Namibia where he secured an exclusive interview with Namibia's founding president Dr. Sam Nujoma.

The president hailed Matiba personal sacrifice in securing political freedom in the country. The former cabinet minister and opposition leader twice but unsuccessfully contested the presidency losing on both occasions to former president Daniel Moi has been ailing from complications arising from his stint in detention under Moi's regime for daring to agitate for greater democratic space in the country
Congolese musician Koffi Olomide has been deported to Kinshasa, DRC through Kenya Airways 11 am flight after he was captured on camera assaulting his female dancer at JKIA Friday morning. Koffi was arrested shortly after conducting a live interview Friday night at a local media house and locked up at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport cells after social media went abuzz condemning his violence against a female dancer.
Today Kenyans rose up in outrage against musician Koffi Olomide who shocked the nation by viciously kicking a woman in his entourage in the full glare of cameras at the Jomo Kenyatta international airport. Anger and condemnation greeted the video that went viral soon after the incident, and not even an attempt by Koffi to play down the assault could quench the wrath of Kenyans, some of whom demanded that he be immediately sent back to his home country. Members of the Kenyan national assembly have also reacted with anger to Koffi’s actions. Ktn’s Timothy Otieno brings us the actions of the man now being referred to as teke Olomide.
