Elric of Melniboné is a fictional character created by Michael Moorcock and the protagonist of a series of sword and sorcery stories taking place on an alternate Earth. The proper name and title of the character is Elric VIII, 428th Emperor of Melniboné. Later novels by Moorcock mark Elric as a facet of the Eternal Champion.
Elric first appeared in print in Moorcock's novella, "The Dreaming City" (Science Fantasy No. 47, June 1961); subsequent novellas were reformatted as the novel Stormbringer (1965), but his first appearance in an original novel occurred in 1972 in Elric of Melniboné. Moorcock's albino character is one of the better known in fantasy literature, having crossed over into multimedia, such as comics and film, though efforts towards the latter stalled over the years. The novels have been continuously in print since the 1970s.
Elric is described by his creator, in the first book, Elric of Melniboné, as follows:
Elric is the last emperor of the stagnating island civilisation of Melniboné. Physically weak and frail, the albino Elric must take drugs (special herbs) to maintain his health. In addition to herb lore, his character becomes an accomplished sorcerer and summoner, able to summon powerful, supernatural allies by dint of his royal Melnibonéan bloodline. Unlike most others of his race, Elric has a conscience; he sees the decadence of his culture and worries about the rise of the Young Kingdoms, populated by humans (as Melniboneans do not consider themselves such) and the threat they pose to his empire. Because of his introspective self-loathing of Melnibonéan traditions, his subjects find him odd and unfathomable, and his cousin Yyrkoon (next in the line of succession, as Elric has no heirs) interprets his behaviour as weakness and plots Elric's death.
Michael John Moorcock (born 18 December 1939) is an English writer, primarily of science fiction and fantasy, who has also published literary novels. He is best known for his novels about the character Elric of Melniboné, a seminal influence on the field of fantasy in the 1960s and 1970s.
As editor of the controversial British science fiction magazine New Worlds, from May 1964 until March 1971 and then again from 1976 to 1996, Moorcock fostered the development of the science fiction "New Wave" in the UK and indirectly in the United States. His publication of Bug Jack Barron by Norman Spinrad as a serial novel was notorious; in Parliament some British MPs condemned the Arts Council for funding the magazine.
In 2008, The Times newspaper named Moorcock in its list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945".
In December 2014, production was announced by Digital Story Engine of MICHAEL MOORCOCK: FAITH, HOPE AND ANXIETY, a feature-length documentary film exploring Moorcock's six-decade career and influence. The film is scheduled for release in 2016.
Fullmetal Alchemist (Japanese: 鋼の錬金術師, Hepburn: Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, lit. "Alchemist of Steel") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. It was serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine between August 2001 and June 2010; the publisher later collected the individual chapters into twenty-seven tankōbon volumes. The world of Fullmetal Alchemist is styled after the European Industrial Revolution. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques, the story follows the Elric brothers Edward and Alphonse, who are searching for a philosopher's stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy.
The manga was published in English by Viz Media in North America, Madman Entertainment in Australasia, and Chuang Yi in Singapore. It has been adapted into two anime television series, two animated films—all animated by Bones studio—and light novels. Funimation dubbed both television series and films into English and released them for North America; these were distributed in other regions by several other companies. Viz Media localized the light novels, and Funimation and Destineer have localized the video games. Original video animations, video games, supplementary books, collectible card game and a variety of action figures and other merchandise have been based on the series' characters.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Japanese: 鋼の錬金術師, Hepburn: Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) is an anime adaptation of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga by Hiromu Arakawa. Developed by Bones, the series is directed by Yasuhiro Irie and written by Hiroshi Ōnogi. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the second anime television series based on Fullmetal Alchemist, the first being 2003's Fullmetal Alchemist, as a 1/1 adaptation directly following the events of the manga. It was first announced in the manga series' 20th tankōbon volume. In Japan, it is differentiated from the 2003 series by the inclusion of the English language title. The series premiered on April 5, 2009 on MBS-TBS' Sunday 5:00 PM JST anime time block, replacing Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and ran weekly until airing its final episode on July 4, 2010. Voice actors Romi Park and Rie Kugimiya reprise their roles as main characters Edward and Alphonse Elric, respectively.
On March 20, 2009, it was announced that the English title of the series was Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and that it would receive its English language premiere on Animax Asia, with Japanese audio and English subtitles, from April 10, 2009 at 8:30 p.m, five days after its Japanese premiere. On April 3, 2009, Funimation announced they would stream English subtitled episodes four days after they air in Japan. Madman Entertainment would also stream it "within days" of the episodes airing in Japan. On February 14, 2010, the English dubbed version of the series began its run on Adult Swim. On February 1, 2016, it was announced from the official Funimation blog that Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, along with Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa, that Funimation will lose the home video and streaming rights by March 31, 2016.

Plot: Hawkwind are probably better known by their former members than their current ones, but nevertheless are an important rock group, at least in terms of the UK music scene. Formed in the late 1960's, Hawkwind achieved underground cult status along with counterparts Pink Floyd (led by then relatively stable Syd Barrett) and The Soft Machine. At various times, science fiction author Michael Moorcock (who is seen in this video), Lemmy (who went on to form Motorhead) and Ginger Baker of Cream stardom were all members of Hawkwind. From their early hits "Silver Machine" and "Urban Guerilla" to their modern day shows played at underground raves and rock festivals, Hawkwind continues to be a great creative force with a unique sound. The Chronicle of the Black Sword is one of their most ambitious record to date and a great listen, but to be truly enjoyed, the concert video should be obtained and viewed because with Hawkwind, as with early Pink Floyd, the visual spectacle was half the show.

The White Wolf. The Prince of Ruins. Womanslayer. Kingslayer. GODslayer. The Thin White Duke. (Can you tell Bowie was a fan?) Elric of Melniboné has been a fantasy fixture for over a half-century, but in recent years - thanks to a prominent work of Polish plagiarism - he's been relegated to the rear guard. Today? We put the Dragon Emperor back up-front where he belongs. Ending Music: Mutant Disease - SUMMONER (Subscribe and buy their stuff - dude rules!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKJ91Z3OPDE

Almost anyone who has read or written Science Fiction or fantasy has been inspired by the work of Michael Moorcock. His literary flair and grand sense of adventure have been evident since his controversial first novel Behold the Man, through the stories and novels featuring his most famous character, Elric of Melniboné, to his fantasy masterpiece, Gloriana, winner of both the Campbell Memorial and World Fantasy, awards for best novel. Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, and Michael Chabon all cite Moorcock as a major influence; as editor of New Worlds magazine, he helped launch the careers of many of his contemporaries, including Harlan Ellison, Philip K. Dick, and J. G. Ballard. Tor Books now proudly presents Moorcock’s first independent novel in nine years, a tale both fantastical and autobiographi...
