Discover the story behind one of New York City's most iconic buildings, the New York Public Library's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. Located at 42nd St and 5th Avenue, the landmark building is the center point of the NYPL system which includes 88 neighborhood branches and four scholarly research centers across the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island.

Public library
For public libraries in North America, see Public libraries in North America.
A public library is a library that is accessible by the general public and is generally funded from public sources, such as taxes. It is operated by librarians and library paraprofessionals, who are also civil servants.
There are five fundamental characteristics shared by public libraries. The first is that they are generally supported by taxes (usually local, though any level of government can and may contribute); they are governed by a board to serve the public interest; they are open to all, and every community member can access the collection; they are entirely voluntary in that no one is ever forced to use the services provided; and they provide basic services without charge.
Public libraries exist in many countries across the world and are often considered an essential part of having an educated and literate population. Public libraries are distinct from research libraries, school libraries, and other special libraries in that their mandate is to serve the general public's information needs rather than the needs of a particular school, institution, or research population. Public libraries also provide free services such as preschool story times to encourage early literacy, quiet study and work areas for students and professionals, or book clubs to encourage appreciation of literature in adults. Public libraries typically allow users to borrow books and other materials, i.e., take off the premises temporarily; they also have non-circulating reference collections and provide computer and Internet access to patrons.

"A Conservative blogger and homeschooling mom whose video tour of a science museum went viral is being sued by an Illinois librarian as part of an ongoing dispute over Internet pornography.
Megan Fox, a blogger for PJ Media and YouTube commentator, has aggressively campaigned for more than a year to change library policies in Orland Park after she and an associate claimed they saw men viewing porn at the public library."

Restored Winnie-The-Pooh Returns to NYC Library
After spending a year in the tender care of a textile restoration expert, Winnie the pooh and his cast of characters have been returned to the New York City Public library for the exhibit on the classic children's character. The library has actually had Winnie the pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Tigger on display since 1987. They were previously owned by Christopher Robin Milne who received them as presents from writer A.A Milne, the original creator of the Winnie the Pooh stories. Milne wrote the stories about the stuffed characters for his son. Working in luxury retail can mean changing jobs occasionally. Salesman Paul Couvertier figured he might need a half hour to prepare a resume when he stopped in one day at Aguilar Library. However, by the time he was finished, he had spent two hours getting all the forms together for his application. Fortunately, library staff accommodated his needs and gave him encouragement, as well as training to improve his computer skills. Since then, Paul has returned multiple times to take advantage of the services, and the friendships, he found at the library branch, and always gets the job. Working in luxury retail can mean changing jobs occasionally. Salesman Paul Couvertier figured he might need a half hour to prepare a resume when he stopped in one day at Aguilar Library. However, by the time he was finished, he had spent two hours getting all the forms together for his application. Fortunately, library staff accommodated his needs and gave him encouragement, as well as training to improve his computer skills. Since then, Paul has returned multiple times to take advantage of the services, and the friendships, he found at the library branch, and always gets the job.

Library proposal is too much, too soon. I have always voted for tax increases that I believe in and libraries are high on my list. However, the present campaign that nearly quadruples the millage for the library contains some red flags that make me reluctant to support it in this special election. Blair Library was built from scratch and burdened Fayetteville voters with an 18-month, 1 percent sales tax ... I love the library....

Pokemon GO Dev Will Remove Pokestops if Enough Requests are Made

Here in the States, the Provo City Library in Utah said in a post that its requests for removal were answered quickly. The library at one point had four Pokestops near its location and said that it was unable to handle the “unexpected costs and increased problems” that came with it. The library appears to be OK with people playing the game nearby, but didn’t want the Pokestops to act like a magnet for a large crowd....
