The Assyrian Aid Society-Iraq or AAS-Iraq, originally founded as the Assyrian Aid and Social Society in north Iraq, is an Assyrian organization established for the purpose of providing humanitarian aid to Assyrian Christians in the Assyrian homeland, Bet Nahrain.
The AAS was established in direct response to the humanitarian crisis following the 1991 Gulf War and the hardships suffered by the Assyrian people during Saddam Hussein's rule in Iraq. Its headquarters is located in Dohuk, Iraq.
The current AAS President is Ashur Sargon Eskrya. Autonomous independent Assyrian Aid Societies in the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, and Sweden help fund AAS humanitarian projects in Iraq.

A society is a group of people involved in persistent social interaction, or a large social grouping sharing the same geographical or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. Societies are characterized by patterns of relationships (social relations) between individuals who share a distinctive culture and institutions; a given society may be described as the sum total of such relationships among its constituent members. In the social sciences, a larger society often evinces stratification or dominance patterns in subgroups.
Insofar as it is collaborative, a society can enable its members to benefit in ways that would not otherwise be possible on an individual basis; both individual and social (common) benefits can thus be distinguished, or in many cases found to overlap.
A society can also consist of like-minded people governed by their own norms and values within a dominant, larger society. This is sometimes referred to as a subculture, a term used extensively within criminology.

Los Angeles (i/lɒs ˈændʒəlᵻs/ loss AN-jə-ləs or loss AN-jə-liss) (Spanish for "The Angels"), officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-largest city in the United States after New York City, the most populous city in the state of California, and the county seat of Los Angeles County.
Situated in Southern California, Los Angeles is known for its mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, sprawling metropolis, and as a major center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles lies in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet (3,000 m).
Historically home to the Chumash and Tongva, Los Angeles was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542 along with the rest of what would become Alta California. The city was officially founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. The city experienced rapid growth with the discovery of oil.

Assyrian Aid Society visits Easter services in three churches in Nuhadra (Dohuk). With hundreds of thousands of families displaced in north Iraq today, the traditions of the Christian faith continue. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Assyrian Christians throughout the world in this Easter season.
This marks the second year that Assyrians celebrated Christmas away from their homes in Mosul and the Nineveh Plain. The Islamic State attacks in northern Iraq displaced hundreds of thousands of Assyrians, many of those people who now reside Erbil and Nuhadra. With the partnership of the Assyrian Aid Society of America, its sister organization the Assyrian Aid Society - Iraq, AAS of Canada, and the Assyrian Evangelical Church of San Jose, the Christmas gift distributions continue in Erbil and Sapna. It has been a great end to 2015 with the distribution of over 10,000 gifts to internally displaced children in north Iraq. The season of giving joy to others never ends; make your tax-deductible donation today. Wishing you all a prosperous 2016!

Although the Assyrian schools in Iraq continue to struggle largely due to budget restraints, the Assyrian Aid Society believes that educating children is one of its main duties. The recent displacements in Iraq due to the Islamic State invasion has resulted in many schools used as makeshift camps for internally displaced Assyrians. Join us tonight as we visit Nsibin and Akitu High Schools in north Iraq during their first semester exams where the teachers discuss the exam structure and the students provide their thoughts on their exam performance. The Assyrian Aid Society has supported and advanced the Assyrian education system since 1992 and upholds its mission to improve the educational opportunities offered to the students. Alqosh is the historic Assyrian town in the Nineveh Plain that lies north of Nineveh (Mosul). With over 1000 Assyrian homes in Alqosh prior to the ISIS invasion in June 2014, a majority of the population still resides there and is committed to improving their lives along with those who have recently fled to the town. The Alqosh Cultural Society is working with organizations like the Assyrian Aid Society-Iraq and the Assyrian Aid Society of America to promote and preserve the Assyrian language, culture, and heritage. By building this center the community has created opportunities to focus on supporting structures that are necessary to achieve their goals, even during these current crises in the Middle East. The Alqosh Cultural Society was originally established in May 2005 to support Ass...
