Dato' Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim (born in Jelebu, 15 April 1942) is the current Malaysian Information, Communications, and Culture Minister. His ministry is considered a new ministry formed from the merger of three separate ministries in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's smaller cabinet. He is the longest serving Cabinet member of the Federal Government, having served five Prime Ministers since 1974.

He is also a Member of Parliament from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the leading party in the ruling coalition of Barisan Nasional.

Rais was born on April 15, 1942 in Kampung Gagu, Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan.

He is a lawyer by profession. In 1964, he graduated from Language Institute (also known as Language Teaching College), Kuala Lumpur. In 1968, he taught Bahasa Malaysia to the American Peace Corps in the United States. He obtained his honors degree from National University of Singapore. In 1994, he obtained a PhD from King's College London. His doctoral dissertation was eventually published in 1995 as Freedom Under Executive Power in Malaysia: A Study of Executive Supremacy.

Yang Berhomat Liew Chin Tong is a Malaysian politician and is currently the member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Bukit Bendera constituency in Penang, Malaysia. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and is a shadow Minister for Defence in the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition.

Liew was elected to the Malaysian Parliament in the 2008 election. A political strategist prior to his election, Liew has been credited for masterminding Pakatan Rakyat's takeover of the Penang State Assembly.

Zubir Said (22 July 1907 – 16 November 1987) was a Singaporean composer originally from the Minangkabau highlands of Indonesia who composed the national anthem of Singapore, "Majulah Singapura" ("Onward Singapore"). A self-taught musician, Zubir also worked as a score arranger and songwriter for Cathay-Keris Film Productions for 12 years, composing numerous songs for the company's Malay films. He is believed to have written about 1,500 songs, with less than 10% of them ever recorded.

It has been said that Zubir was viewed by many as a composer with a "true Malay soul", as his songs were interwoven with historical messages and Malay truisms, and that he and his Minangkabau contemporaries awoke a wave of national consciousness in the 1950s.

The eldest child in a family of three boys and five girls, Zubir Said was born on 22 July 1907 in Bukittinggi in the Minangkabau highlands of West Sumatra, Indonesia. His mother died when he was seven years old. He attended a Dutch school but had no interest in academic studies. His involvement with music started when he was introduced to the Solfa music system by a teacher. A primary-school classmate subsequently taught him how to make and play a flute, and in middle school, he learned to play the guitar and drums from fellow students and the keroncong group he was involved in.
