Merced, CA — A video posted to YouTube this week shows a police interaction over a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk end as the man filming it is tackled by cops.
As the video begins, an unidentified young black man is seen arguing with a police officer. When the man asks the police officer the reason for the stop, she is unable to articulate one and instead calls for backup.
The alleged infraction the officer was attempting to ticket the man for was riding on the sidewalk. According to the Merced City Municipal Code Section 10.44.040, bicycles are prohibited on the sidewalks from “V” Street to “G” Street on Main Street. Whether or not this man was on one of those sidewalks is not revealed in the video.
While a citation for riding on the sidewalk is questionable given certain circumstances, under the law, the man on the bike should have presented his ID as he had technically been suspected of committing a crime.
As the man tries to ride away, however, the small female officer attempts to take down the man twice her size. The man resists but without violence.
As he records, the man filming tries to calm down the cyclist and tells him not to resist. Just as the cyclist listens to the man filming and puts his hands behind his back to be placed in handcuffs, a motorcycle officer comes storming in and grabs his throat.
Up until this point, the man on the bike had been calming down. However, after being attacked while he was complying, he was set off once again. Still, he remained non-violent.
As the man filming documents the situation, he apparently got too close to the officer, who then told him to back up. He immediately and without question backed up and remained completely obedient and polite. However, just as he backs up, another cop arriving on the scene tackles the man filming.
According to the video uploader, the man filming was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for resisting, delaying, or disrupting a public officer.

MERCED, CALIFORNIA — The violent scene that unfolded at the University of California, Merced earlier this week has become clearer after more details surfaced, including the identity of the attacker.
Wednesday's stabbing spree at UC Merced occurred at the school's Classroom and Office building. Just as classes were beginning, an 18-year-old student now identified as Faisal Mohammad, rushed into a room with an 8-inch-long hunting blade and stabbed a male student.
A construction worker heard the commotion and ran into the room. When the knifeman attacked him, the man got down on his back and fought the attacker with his legs. The 31-year-old construction worker, Byron Price, is now being hailed as a hero for distracting Mohammad and thwarting a potential death in the classroom.
After eventually stabbing Price on the side of his torso, Mohammad ran down two flights of stairs and out of the building. He stabbed a student outside the building and then attacked a female university employee sitting on a bench nearby.
Two campus police officers chased Mohammad to a pedestrian bridge, where he was shot and killed.
All four victims suffered non life-threatening injuries. Investigators are still trying to determine the motive behind Mohammad's attack.

Merced, CA — A video posted to YouTube this week shows a police interaction over a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk end as the man filming it is tackled by cops.
As the video begins, an unidentified young black man is seen arguing with a police officer. When the man asks the police officer the reason for the stop, she is unable to articulate one and instead calls for backup.
The alleged infraction the officer was attempting to ticket the man for was riding on the sidewalk. According to the Merced City Municipal Code Section 10.44.040, bicycles are prohibited on the sidewalks from “V” Street to “G” Street on Main Street. Whether or not this man was on one of those sidewalks is not revealed in the video.
While a citation for riding on the sidewalk is questionable given certain circumstances, under the law, the man on the bike should have presented his ID as he had technically been suspected of committing a crime.
As the man tries to ride away, however, the small female officer attempts to take down the man twice her size. The man resists but without violence.
As he records, the man filming tries to calm down the cyclist and tells him not to resist. Just as the cyclist listens to the man filming and puts his hands behind his back to be placed in handcuffs, a motorcycle officer comes storming in and grabs his throat.
Up until this point, the man on the bike had been calming down. However, after being attacked while he was complying, he was set off once again. Still, he remained non-violent.
As the man filming documents the situation, he apparently got too close to the officer, who then told him to back up. He immediately and without question backed up and remained completely obedient and polite. However, just as he backs up, another cop arriving on the scene tackles the man filming.

MERCED, CALIFORNIA — The violent scene that unfolded at the University of California, Merced earlier this week has become clearer after more details surfaced, including the identity of the attacker.
Wednesday's stabbing spree at UC Merced occurred at the school's Classroom and Office building. Just as classes were beginning, an 18-year-old student now identified as Faisal Mohammad, rushed into a room with an 8-inch-long hunting blade and stabbed a male student.
A construction worker heard the commotion and ran into the room. When the knifeman attacked him, the man got down on his back and fought the attacker with his legs. The 31-year-old construction worker, Byron Price, is now being hailed as a hero for distracting Mohammad and thwarting a potential death in the classroom.
After eventually stabbing Price on the side of his torso, Mohammad ran down two flights of stairs and out of the building. He stabbed a student outside the building and then attacked a female university employee sitting on a bench nearby.
Two campus police officers chased Mohammad to a pedestrian bridge, where he was shot and killed.
All four victims suffered non life-threatening injuries. Investigators are still trying to determine the motive behind Mohammad's attack.

Hi guys, I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips. If you're a subscriber to this channel, you're either planning a trip to California, or you're a resident looking for new places to check out. Today I'm going to share some of my Top 10 travel tips for visiting California like a local.
Tip No. 1: Book California State Park campgrounds exactly 7 months before you want to visit on http://www.ReserveAmerica.com. If you're hoping to score a busy holiday like the Fourth of July, reserve a few dates in the end of June, then add a few days to your visit. Securing a campground in Yosemite is also tricky. You'll need to log into http://www.Recreation.gov a few minutes before 7 a.m. on the 15th of the month — five months in advance of your visit. Popular campgrounds in the valley sell out in seconds! For example, if you want to book a stay between June 15 and July 14, you need to book on February 15.
Tip No. 2: If you're going to Disneyland, take advantage of the FastPass service. Just insert your park ticket into the kiosk for a designated FastPass ride and you'll receive a ticket allowing you to return later and cut the line. I've found it's handy to have one person gather all of your tickets to get the Fast Pass while you wait in line for another attraction. If you have kids too small to ride an attraction, the Baby Switch Pass is another good bet. Just ask a cast member for the pass at the entrance. Make sure you ride the most popular attractions right when the park opens. Knott's has a similar service called FastLane, but you have to pay for it.
Tip No. 3: Avoid traveling in the summer if you can. Most of the amusement parks are packed to capacity, with long lines and hot waits in the sun. The fall and winter sees much fewer crowds, and the hotels are cheaper too.
Tip No. 4: Get on the Groupon list for each city you are visiting. You'll be able to get discounts on some really cool attractions and restaurants you may not have considered before. If you want great hotel rates, check out sites like Priceline or Hotel Tonight for last-minute lodging.
Tip No. 5: If you plan on visiting several theme parks or attractions, look into the Go Card or City Pass. They offer discounts on many of the most popular sights in LA, San Diego and San Francisco. If you're a Costco member, many warehouses sell discount tickets to theme parks, restaurants and sporting events.
Tip. No. 6: If there's an expensive restaurant you want to try, go during happy hour. Often you'll get to sample their best dishes and drinks at half the price.
Tip No. 7: Families should plan their San Diego vacations in October, when the city hosts its Kids Free month. Many of the area's most popular attractions, including San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Balboa Park are free for kids 12 and under.
Tip No. 8: If your favorite hotel or campground is booked, try again seven days in advance. This is when many people cancel their reservations to avoid penalties.
Tip No. 9: If you're heading to more than one of the seven California national parks, consider getting the annual pass for $80. Admission is free for all the parks in April during National Parks Week, and in November during Veterans Day weekend.
Tip No. 10: For the best fares, book your trip midweek for flights departing and arriving on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The cheapest rates can often be found online between 10 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 a.m. Thursdays around the 7th of each month. Additionally, the cheapest fares are found 7, 14 and 21 days before you leave.

If it’s a more serene environment you’re after, pass through the stately architecture and flowing lagoon of the Palace of Fine Arts.
Of course, San Francisco sightseeing isn’t complete without an excursion to Alcatraz, the island prison that once held some of the country’s most notorious criminals. Look into its empty cells and thick stone walls and wonder, could you escape “The Rock”?

Stop by the San Diego Zoo and spend some time with the many animals taking up residence there – including some of the few pandas outside of China.
Explore San Diego’s ties to the sea by touring the U.S.S. Midway, Navy Pier, and Maritime Museum. From there, it’s just a skip across the bay to Coronado, where you can lay out in the sun and soak up some rays in a quiet beach town.
Round out your day with a trip to “the jewel,” better known as La Jolla, and indulge in some of the best seafood and Mexican food you’ll find anywhere. Don’t forget to say “Hi” to the sea lions.

I was finally able to pay a visit to the San Joaquin Valley to railfan! The first location ended up being Merced! While I was there, I got lots of high-speed BNSF freights (most of them Z-Trains), a few Amtrak San Joaquins (including one with Nathan P5 cab car #8306 leading), and a special appearance from a BNSF Hyrailer.

Yarts bus Merced Ca to Yosemite Valley Part 1 of 2
Yarts buses are nice. As you can hear they are a little rattily. The buses I was on had bathrooms. It is very nice that they have their schedules clearly posted at each stop. It is amazing that in just an hour this bus goes from flat farmland to 3000 to 4000 foot valley. yarts.com

I was finally able to pay a visit to the San Joaquin Valley to railfan! The first location ended up being Merced! While I was there, I got lots of high-speed BNSF freights (most of them Z-Trains), a few Amtrak San Joaquins (including one with Nathan P5 cab car #8306 leading), and a special appearance from a BNSF Hyrailer.

It is amazing that in just an hour this bus goes from flat farmland to 3000 to 4000 foot valley.
