Pantheism is the belief that the Universe (or nature as the totality of everything) is identical with divinity, or that everything composes an all-encompassing, immanent god. Pantheists thus do not believe in a distinct personal or anthropomorphic god.
In the West, Pantheism was formalized as a separate theology and philosophy based on the work of the 17th-century philosopher Baruch Spinoza, whose book Ethics was an answer to Descartes' famous dualist theory that the body and spirit are separate. Although the term pantheism was not coined until after his death, Spinoza is regarded as its most celebrated advocate. His work, Ethics was the major source from which Western pantheism spread.
Pantheistic concepts may date back thousands of years, and some religions in the East continue to contain pantheistic elements.
Pantheism is derived from the Greek πᾶν pan (meaning "all, of everything") and θεός theos (meaning "god, divine"). There are a variety of definitions of pantheism. Some consider it a theological and philosophical position concerning God.

Professor Robert Merrihew Adams discusses three questions: First, what pantheism is or might be. Second, whether traditional theistic beliefs have metaphysical implications that fit some form of pantheism. And third, if such implications were accepted, how it would be reasonable to characterize the relation between God and the world. There are two general ways to understand pantheism. One can either start with the idea of God and understand the universe as a part of God; or one can start with the universe itself as the great unity, and then go on to identify it with God. Thus, one side is theistic, where everything becomes a part of God, while the other side is more atheistic, where God gets swallowed up in the unity of the world itself. Professor Adams approaches pantheism from the more t...

This is an introduction video expressing some of the core ideas of my philosophical views. I believe the universe has always been here and always will be and that all things in the universe are ultimately connected. I believe that the universe is infinite and indestructible. Is our search for God too narrow? Why do some philosophers espouse 'pantheism'? Pantheism's claim is not shy: God is the Cosmos and the Cosmos is God. Pantheism is often an over-simplified in the minds of many Christians. Often we feel free from being entangled in the snare of pantheism, but it is actually more pervasive than one would think. Pantheism is more complex than just believing that God is in the trees and the grass. Pantheism is a belief that dissolves the distinction between the Creator and the created. It believes that the spark of divinity lives inside everyone and thus we are divine. Such sentiments have been trending in modern Christianity and has begun to steer the message of the gospel more and more in this direction. In this episode discover how this is so...
