The primary sector of the economy is the sector of an economy making direct use of natural resources. This includes agriculture, forestry and fishing, mining, and extraction of oil and gas. This is contrasted with the secondary sector, producing manufactured and other processed goods, and the tertiary sector, producing services. The primary sector is usually most important in less developed countries, and typically less important in industrial countries.
The manufacturing industries that aggregate, pack, package, purify or process the raw materials close to the primary producers are normally considered part of this sector, especially if the raw material is unsuitable for sale or difficult to transport long distances.
Primary industry is a larger sector in developing countries; for instance, animal husbandry is more common in Africa than in Japan. Mining in 19th century South Wales is a case study of how an economy can come to rely on one form of business.
Canada is unusual among developed countries in the importance of the primary sector, with the logging and oil industries being two of Canada's most important. However, in recent years, the number of terminal exchanges have heavily reduced Canada's primary industry, making them rely more on the quaternary industry
Bhan Singh (1875 – 2 March 1918) was an Indian freedom fighter.
Bhan Singh was born in village Sunet, District Ludhiana.
Like like many young men of rural Punjab, he too joined the army, and served a cavalry regiment for a few years. Discharged from service, he went to America to earn money. But having realised that the motherland was in fetters, he joined the Ghadar Party. Upon its call to return to India for Ghadar, he arrived in India on 29 October 1915 and was interned in Montgomery Jail. He was released, after being found innocent. He then put his heart and soul in the activities of the party. He was arrested and tried for war against the emperor, sentenced to transportation for life, and sent to cellular jail Andaman.
Even in the hell-like life of Andaman, once, while standing in the door of his cell, he was singing the famous lines of Guru Gobind Singh "mittar pyarae nun hall murtdan da kahina" (convey to my beloved friend, the predicament of the devotees). An English jail warden asked "Who give you the right to sing here?" He continued singing. He was then kept in total isolation and thrashed, but he did not yield. when he was just near his end, the jail authorities in order to save their skin, sent him to hospital, where he died just after his arrival.
