The Zuni (Zuni: A:shiwi; formerly spelled Zuñi) are a federally recognized Native American tribe, one of the Pueblo peoples. Most live in the Pueblo of Zuni on the Zuni River, a tributary of the Little Colorado River, in western New Mexico, United States. Zuni is 55 km (34 mi) south of Gallup, New Mexico. In addition to the reservation, the tribe owns trust lands in Catron County, New Mexico and Apache County, Arizona. They called their homeland Shiwinnaqin.
In 2000, 10,228 people were enrolled in the Zuni tribe. According to the 2000 Census, there were approximately 7,790 people in the zip code of the Zuni reservation, with 7,619 living in either the statistical areas of Zuni or Blackrock. Tribal estimates for the entire reservation run from 10,000 to 12,000, with over 80% being Native Americans. Nearly half, or 43.0% of the population, lives below the poverty line as defined by the U.S. income standards. As of 2010, 538 Zuni lived in Arizona.

"A Call to Zuni Youth: Clifford Mahooty Volume One" A new UFOHypotheses.com DVD effort has just been released on February 3, 2011, named "A Call To Zuni Youth: Clifford Mahooty Volume One," co-produced by Cosmic Chronicles and Under-Appreciated Science Productions, and is available for free viewing on YouTube. "A Call To Zuni Youth" is meant to engage the Pueblo ...

As part of the museum's Native American Heritage Month Ceramics of the Southwest program, the Zuni Olla Maidens perform dances and songs that pay homage to their female ancestors, who labored to get water for daily sustenance by balancing large olla jars on their heads. The Zuni Olla Maidens are known for the Pottery Dance, in which they move in carefully choreographed steps with delicate painted pottery jars balanced on their heads. The group, led by Loretta Beyuka and Juanita Edaakie, are all related by blood and are citizens of the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. This is the first of five presentations they gave that was live webcast and recorded at the Potomac Atrium of the National Museum of the American Indian on November 14, 2015.
Many scholars have depicted the period between A.D. 1450 and Coronado's arrival in 1540 as a "lost century" in the Southwest. During this period, populations declined substantially throughout the region, and groups of people moved over vast distances. Remaining communities rapidly changed how they organized themselves. The Zuni region of west-central New Mexico is one of only a few places in the northern Southwest where people continued to live in centuries-old large agricultural villages through the "lost century" and into the historic period. In this talk, Dr. Matthew Peeples summarizes several lines of archaeological and biological evidence to explore the origins, timing and consequences of immigration into the Zuni region and the establishment of the communities de Niza and Coronado en...
In this Tea and Archaeology presentation, Dr. Barbara Mills explores how Zuni potters reinforced community identity through their medium.
Secrets Of The Pueblo (SECRET ANCIENT HISTORY DOCUMENTARY) Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, contains some of the earliest surviving dwellings in North America. Over 1,000 years ago these Native Americans built sophisticated systems of housing in the canyon. The most elaborate of the nineteen towns, known as Great Houses, was Pueblo Bonito. Founded with a cluster of twenty rooms around the year 1000 A.D., Pueblo Bonito grew into a four-story complex by 1150 A.D. Because most of the 800 rooms in the complex are of roughly equal size, archaeologists surmise that the inhabitants lived in an egalitarian society that lacked social hierarchy. Each Great House contained at least one partially underground ceremonial room known as "kiva"--Pueblo Bonita contained 37 of them. What was the function of these ...
