A noble savage is a literary stock character who embodies the concept of an idealized indigene, outsider, or "other" who has not been "corrupted" by civilization, and therefore symbolizes humanity's innate goodness. In English, the phrase first appeared in the 17th century in John Dryden's heroic play The Conquest of Granada (1672), wherein it was used in reference to newly created man. "Savage" at that time could mean "wild beast" as well as "wild man". The phrase later became identified with the idealized picture of "nature's gentleman", which was an aspect of 18th-century sentimentalism. The noble savage achieved prominence as an oxymoronic rhetorical device after 1851, when used sarcastically as the title for a satirical essay by English novelist Charles Dickens, whom some believe may have wished to disassociate himself from what he viewed as the "feminine" sentimentality of 18th and early 19th-century romantic primitivism.
The idea that humans are essentially good is often attributed to the 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury, a Whig supporter of constitutional monarchy. In his Inquiry Concerning Virtue (1699), Shaftesbury had postulated that the moral sense in humans is natural and innate and based on feelings, rather than resulting from the indoctrination of a particular religion. Shaftesbury was reacting to Thomas Hobbes's justification of an absolutist central state in his Leviathan, "Chapter XIII", in which Hobbes famously holds that the state of nature is a "war of all against all" in which men's lives are "solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short". Hobbes further calls the American Indians an example of a contemporary people living in such a state. Although writers since antiquity had described people living in pre-civilized conditions, Hobbes is credited with inventing the term "State of Nature". Ross Harrison writes that "Hobbes seems to have invented this useful term."
Contrary to what is sometimes believed, Jean-Jacques Rousseau never used the phrase noble savage (French bon sauvage). However, the character of the noble savage appeared in French literature at least as early as Jacques Cartier (coloniser of Québec, speaking of the Iroquois) and Michel de Montaigne (philosopher, speaking of the Tupinamba) in the 16th century.

The band released a few career highlights albums (Noble Savage, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Part I, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Part II and Invictus). Max Berry Lives and works in Sydney Australia, his work depicts meditative landscapes and seemingly vulnerable figures, whose calm isolation prompts the viewer to consider the relationship between the actual and the spiritual, agency and fate and the narrative in which they may co-exist. Mark Alsweiler, born in New Zealand, now living an working out of Sydney has an affinity with the imagery of yesteryear which forms the basis of his work. His instantly recognizable acrylic paintings and wooden sculptures often involve themes revolving around a world of contrasts. Alsweiler's work sees the beautiful cooperation of opposites and a union where contradiction becomes complement. "Arkadia" arises from the personal challenge of two videographers (Esther y Jonás a.k.a Made in video) to create a film in just three days and just the two of us: Day 1: The idea. Day 2: Shooting. Day 3: Editing And also, self-imposing, a little bit like in Dogme 95, a number of limitations: a single character, played by ourselves, in a single location, with no budget, without using artificial light and hand-held camera. All with one purpose: to let go every excuse (“I don’t have all the gear I need”, “Where am I gonna find the actors?”...) and just go out and do what we like best: shoot! AllanX is my graduation film. A 30 minutes long drama shoot between March and April 2012. It is a story about young man, a drug dealer, biology student, Allan who is spending most of his time on his own and looking after his handicapped father. Attracted to Eva, an MA psychology student, Allan gets involved in a hypnosis session. An exhibition of new works by Mark Alsweiler and Max Berry. Addressing the loss of the noble savage and the resulting dichotomy between reverie and the everyday.
Max Berry Lives and works in Sydney Australia, his work depicts meditative landscapes and seemingly vulnerable figures, whose calm isolation prompts the viewer to consider the relationship between the actual and the spiritual, agency and fate and the narrative in which they may co-exist.
Mark Alsweiler, born in New Zealand, now living an working out of Sydney has an affinity with the imagery of yesteryear which forms the basis of his work. His instantly recognizable acrylic paintings and wooden sculptures often involve themes revolving around a world of contrasts. Alsweiler's work sees the beautiful cooperation of opposites and a union where contradiction becomes complement.
Show opens Thursday November 24 at 6pm and continues until December 11.

And also, self-imposing, a little bit like in Dogme 95, a number of limitations: a single character, played by ourselves, in a single location, with no budget, without using artificial light and hand-held camera. All with one purpose: to let go every excuse (“I don’t have all the gear I need”, “Where am I gonna find the actors?”...) and just go out and do what we like best: shoot!

“Arkadia” surge del reto personal de dos videografos (Esther y Jonás a.k.a Made in video) de crear un film en sólo tres días y sólo nosotros dos:
Día 1: La idea. Día 2: El rodaje. Día 3: El montaje.
Y, además, autoimponiéndonos, un poco al estilo Dogma 95, toda una serie de limitaciones: un único personaje, interpretado por nosotros mismos, en una única localización, sin ningún presupuesto, sin utilizar luz artificial y cámara en mano. Todo con un propósito: dejar de lado todas las posibles excusas (“no tengo todo el equipo necesario”, “¿de dónde voy a sacar a los actores?”…) y salir a hacer lo que más nos gusta: ¡rodar!
Con un formato tipo videoclip, “Arkadia” nos presenta a un personaje fantástico que vive en un lugar utópico, donde reina la felicidad, la sencillez y la paz. Un lugar donde sentirse en comunión con la naturaleza. Se trata, al fin y al cabo, de nuestra reinterpretación de la leyenda de “El buen salvaje”.

“Arkadia” surge del reto personal de dos videografos (Esther y Jonás a.k.a Made in video) de crear un film en sólo tres días y sólo nosotros dos:
Día 1: La idea. Día 2: El rodaje. Día 3: El montaje.
Y, además, autoimponiéndonos, un poco al estilo Dogma 95, toda una serie de limitaciones: un único personaje, interpretado por nosotros mismos, en una única localización, sin ningún presupuesto, sin utilizar luz artificial y cámara en mano. Todo con un propósito: dejar de lado todas las posibles excusas (“no tengo todo el equipo necesario”, “¿de dónde voy a sacar a los actores?”…) y salir a hacer lo que más nos gusta: ¡rodar!
Con un formato tipo videoclip, “Arkadia” nos presenta a un personaje fantástico que vive en un lugar utópico, donde reina la felicidad, la sencillez y la paz. Un lugar donde sentirse en comunión con la naturaleza. Se trata, al fin y al cabo, de nuestra reinterpretación de la leyenda de “El buen salvaje”.

FRIDA SUNDEMO is a Swedish artist and songwriter. She's creating grandiose and epic electronic pop music as well as minimalistic acoustic pieces. The correlation between melodies and harmonies is always the highest priority in her writing process.
This is the second collaboration between Frida Sundemo and Paul Jerndal. Their last common project is called "From One Island To Another" (2011) and was also shot in New York City.

This film is the first of two elements in the emotional project; Indigo.
Two young, lost souls in New York City share a common struggle - they are stuck in lives they do not feel they belong. She is an adored actress and he, a bike messenger. On the outside they seem like each other’s opposite, but on the inside they are the same- dehumanized by an internal loneliness that alienates them from feeling alive.
The claws of loneliness affect both characters the same, unconcerned with the typical borders of power and privilege. Synchronicity begins to mirror their lives, and they finally reach a breaking point. It is in this moment, they must choose to find that brave breath- a self power that brings them in touch with truth and the chance to change their trajectory. Both of them make a decision that will bring them back to their true selves and in turn, closer to each other. Indigo is about hope. For everyone.

Indigo is written and directed by the Swedish director Paul Jerndal, who aims to inspire and encourage people to believe in themselves and start being who they truly are. Jerndal’s idea was to merge different art forms together in a conceptual platform that involves music, acting, art, fashion, design and sound. The goal was to bring as many talented, creative people from various fields together, harnessing each artists’ compassion and emotional investment in this subject to create a piece of art that they all believed in. This film aspires to empathize, inspire and give hope to everyone feeling alienated.

A noble savage is a literary stock character who embodies the concept of an idealized indigene, outsider, or "other" who has not been "corrupted" by civilization, and therefore symbolizes humanity's innate goodness. An exhibition of new works by Mark Alsweiler and Max Berry. Addressing the loss of the noble savage and the resulting dichotomy between reverie and the everyday.
Max Berry Lives and works in Sydney Australia, his work depicts meditative landscapes and seemingly vulnerable figures, whose calm isolation prompts the viewer to consider the relationship between the actual and the spiritual, agency and fate and the narrative in which they may co-exist.
Mark Alsweiler, born in New Zealand, now living an working out of Sydney has an affinity with the imagery of yesteryear which forms the basis of his work. His instantly recognizable acrylic paintings and wooden sculptures often involve themes revolving around a world of contrasts. Alsweiler's work sees the beautiful cooperation of opposites and a union where contradiction becomes complement.
Show opens Thursday November 24 at 6pm and continues until December 11.

"Arkadia" arises from the personal challenge of two videographers (Esther y Jonás a.k.a Made in video) to create a film in just three days and just the two of us:
Day 1: The idea. Day 2: Shooting. Day 3: Editing
And also, self-imposing, a little bit like in Dogme 95, a number of limitations: a single character, played by ourselves, in a single location, with no budget, without using artificial light and hand-held camera. All with one purpose: to let go every excuse (“I don’t have all the gear I need”, “Where am I gonna find the actors?”...) and just go out and do what we like best: shoot!
With a music video style, “Arkadia" introduces a fantastic character who lives in a utopian place where happiness, simplicity and peace reigns. A place to feel in communion with nature. It’s, after all, our reinterpretation of the legend of the “Noble savage".
We hope you enjoy it.

FRIDA SUNDEMO is a Swedish artist and songwriter. She's creating grandiose and epic electronic pop music as well as minimalistic acoustic pieces. The correlation between melodies and harmonies is always the highest priority in her writing process.
This is the second collaboration between Frida Sundemo and Paul Jerndal. Their last common project is called "From One Island To Another" (2011) and was also shot in New York City.

This film is the first of two elements in the emotional project; Indigo.
Two young, lost souls in New York City share a common struggle - they are stuck in lives they do not feel they belong. She is an adored actress and he, a bike messenger. On the outside they seem like each other’s opposite, but on the inside they are the same- dehumanized by an internal loneliness that alienates them from feeling alive.
The claws of loneliness affect both characters the same, unconcerned with the typical borders of power and privilege. Synchronicity begins to mirror their lives, and they finally reach a breaking point. It is in this moment, they must choose to find that brave breath- a self power that brings them in touch with truth and the chance to change their trajectory. Both of them make a decision that will bring them back to their true selves and in turn, closer to each other. Indigo is about hope. For everyone.

Indigo is written and directed by the Swedish director Paul Jerndal, who aims to inspire and encourage people to believe in themselves and start being who they truly are. Jerndal’s idea was to merge different art forms together in a conceptual platform that involves music, acting, art, fashion, design and sound. The goal was to bring as many talented, creative people from various fields together, harnessing each artists’ compassion and emotional investment in this subject to create a piece of art that they all believed in. This film aspires to empathize, inspire and give hope to everyone feeling alienated.

Two young, lost souls in New York City share a common struggle - they are stuck in lives they do not feel they belong. She is an adored actress and he, a bike messenger. On the outside they seem like each other’s opposite, but on the inside they are the same- dehumanized by an internal loneliness that alienates them from feeling alive.
The claws of loneliness affect both characters the same, unconcerned with the typical borders of power and privilege. Synchronicity begins to mirror their lives, and they finally reach a breaking point. It is in this moment, they must choose to find that brave breath- a self power that brings them in touch with truth and the chance to change their trajectory. Both of them make a decision that will bring them back to their true selves and in turn, closer to each other. Indigo is about hope. For everyone.

Indigo is written and directed by the Swedish director Paul Jerndal, who aims to inspire and encourage people to believe in themselves and start being who they truly are. Jerndal’s idea was to merge different art forms together in a conceptual platform that involves music, acting, art, fashion, design and sound. The goal was to bring as many talented, creative people from various fields together, harnessing each artists’ compassion and emotional investment in this subject to create a piece of art that they all believed in. This film aspires to empathize, inspire and give hope to everyone feeling alienated.
