Couples who don't want to use artificial means of contraception like hormonal birth control or condoms can manage their fertility by checking for signs they're ovulating. See which natural method may be right for you.
Step 1: Know what natural family planning is
Know what natural family planning is: monitoring your ovulation cycle, and planning sexual intercourse accordingly.
Tip
Track your patterns for at least one menstrual cycle before relying on such a practice for birth control.
Step 2: Consider the mucus method
Consider the cervical mucus method, also known as the Billings ovulation method. You're most fertile when your mucus is clear and slippery, like raw egg white, which lasts about four days. If you don't want to get pregnant, be aware that you can conceive in the three or so days before and after, too, for a total of about 10 potentially fertile days.
Tip
Assessing mucus viscosity can be tricky; a medical professional can help teach you.
Step 3: Take your temperature
Try the basal body temperature method: maintain a graph of your daily temperature, taking it every morning before you get out of bed. When you're ovulating, your temperature may rise slightly -- typically less than 1 degree Fahrenheit -- and stay that way for a few days. Abstain from unprotected sex from the start of your period until five days after your temperature rises.
Tip
For accuracy, take your temperature at the same time every morning, and get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep. Disturbed sleep affects body temperature.
Step 4: Consider the rhythm method
If you have regular menstrual cycles that last between 26 and 32 days, consider the rhythm method, also known as the calendar method. To practice it, subtract 18 from the total number of days in your shortest cycle, and subtract 11 from the total number of days in your longest cycle. To help prevent pregnancy, forgo unprotected sex on the days within that range, usually from the eighth day after your period begins through the 19th or 20th day.
Tip
Consider using cycle beads -- 33 colored beads that help you keep track of safe and unsafe days.
Step 5: Know the success rates
If preventing pregnancy is your goal, be aware that natural family planning's success rate can vary, especially if not followed perfectly. Effectiveness is between 75 and 88 percent for "typical" practice.

Family planning is the planning of when to have children, and the use of birth control and other techniques to implement such plans. Other techniques commonly used include sexuality education, prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections,pre-conception counseling and management, and infertility management.
Family planning is sometimes used as a synonym for the use of birth control, however, it often includes a wide variety of methods, and practices that are not birth control. It is most usually applied to a female-male couple who wish to limit the number of children they have and/or to control the timing of pregnancy (also known as spacing children). Family planning may encompass sterilization, as well as abortion.
Family planning services are defined as "educational, comprehensive medical or social activities which enable individuals, including minors, to determine freely the number and spacing of their children and to select the means by which this may be achieved."
Raising a child requires significant amounts of resources: time, social, financial, and environmental. Planning can help assure that resources are available. The purpose of family planning is to make sure that any couple, man or woman who has the desire to have a child has the resources that are needed in order to complete this goal.[dubious – discuss] With these resources a couple, man or women can explore the options of natural birth, surrogacy, artificial insemination or adoption. In the other case, if the person does not wish to have a child at the specific time, they can investigate the resources that are needed to prevent pregnancy, such as birth control, contraceptives, or physical protection and prevention.

Zakir Abdul Karim Naik (Urdu: ذاکر عبدالکریم نائیک; born 18 October 1965) is an Indian public speaker on the subject of Islam and comparative religion. He is the founder and president of the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), a non-profit organisation that owns the Peace TV channel based in Dubai, UAE. He is sometimes referred to as a televangelist. Before becoming a public speaker, he trained as a doctor. He has written two booklets on Islam and comparative religion. He is regarded as an exponent of the Salafi ideology; he places a strong emphasis on individual scholarship and the rejection of "blind Taqlid", which has led him to repudiate the relevance of sectarian or Madh'hab designations, all the while reaffirming their importance.
Zakir Abdul Karim Naik was born on 18 October 1965 in Mumbai, India. He attended St. Peter's High School in Mumbai. Later he enrolled at Kishinchand Chellaram College, before studying medicine at Topiwala National Medical College and Nair Hospital and later the University of Mumbai, where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS). His wife, Farhat Naik, works for the women's section of the IRF.

See which natural method may be right for you. Step 1: Know what natural family planning is Know what natural family planning is: monitoring your ovulation cycle, and planning sexual intercourse accordingly. Tip Track your patterns for at least one menstrual cycle before relying on such a practice for birth control. Step 2: Consider the mucus method Consider the cervical mucus method, also known as the Billings ovulation method. You're most fertile when your mucus is clear and slippery, like raw egg white, which lasts about four days. If you don't want to get pregnant, be aware that you can conceive in the three or so days before and after, too, for a total of about 10 potentially fertile days. Tip Assessing mucus viscosity can be tricky; a medical professional can help teach you. Step 3: Take your temperature Try the basal body temperature method: maintain a graph of your daily temperature, taking it every morning before you get out of bed. When you're ovulating, your temperature may rise slightly -- typically less than 1 degree Fahrenheit -- and stay that way for a few days. Abstain from unprotected sex from the start of your period until five days after your temperature rises. Tip For accuracy, take your temperature at the same time every morning, and get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep. Disturbed sleep affects body temperature. Step 4: Consider the rhythm method If you have regular menstrual cycles that last between 26 and 32 days, consider the rhythm method, also known as the calendar method. To practice it, subtract 18 from the total number of days in your shortest cycle, and subtract 11 from the total number of days in your longest cycle. To help prevent pregnancy, forgo unprotected sex on the days within that range, usually from the eighth day after your period begins through the 19th or 20th day. Tip Consider using cycle beads -- 33 colored beads that help you keep track of safe and unsafe days. Step 5: Know the success rates If preventing pregnancy is your goal, be aware that natural family planning's success rate can vary, especially if not followed perfectly. Effectiveness is between 75 and 88 percent for "typical" practice. Did You Know? A University of Chicago sociologist found that among 500 couples who used natural family planning, the divorce rate was less than 1 percent. -

Couples who don't want to use artificial means of contraception like hormonal birth control or condoms can manage their fertility by checking for signs they're ovulating. See which natural method may be right for you.
Step 1: Know what natural family planning is
Know what natural family planning is: monitoring your ovulation cycle, and planning sexual intercourse accordingly.
Tip
Track your patterns for at least one menstrual cycle before relying on such a practice for birth control.
Step 2: Consider the mucus method
Consider the cervical mucus method, also known as the Billings ovulation method. You're most fertile when your mucus is clear and slippery, like raw egg white, which lasts about four days. If you don't want to get pregnant, be aware that you can conceive in the three or so days before and after, too, for a total of about 10 potentially fertile days.
Tip
Assessing mucus viscosity can be tricky; a medical professional can help teach you.
Step 3: Take your temperature
Try the basal body temperature method: maintain a graph of your daily temperature, taking it every morning before you get out of bed. When you're ovulating, your temperature may rise slightly -- typically less than 1 degree Fahrenheit -- and stay that way for a few days. Abstain from unprotected sex from the start of your period until five days after your temperature rises.
Tip
For accuracy, take your temperature at the same time every morning, and get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep. Disturbed sleep affects body temperature.
Step 4: Consider the rhythm method
If you have regular menstrual cycles that last between 26 and 32 days, consider the rhythm method, also known as the calendar method. To practice it, subtract 18 from the total number of days in your shortest cycle, and subtract 11 from the total number of days in your longest cycle. To help prevent pregnancy, forgo unprotected sex on the days within that range, usually from the eighth day after your period begins through the 19th or 20th day.
Tip
Consider using cycle beads -- 33 colored beads that help you keep track of safe and unsafe days.
Step 5: Know the success rates
If preventing pregnancy is your goal, be aware that natural family planning's success rate can vary, especially if not followed perfectly. Effectiveness is between 75 and 88 percent for "typical" practice.

“Special care would be given to the use of language and visuals [in such ads] to conform to our cultural values, which are going through a slow evolutionary process,” the statement adds.
Discussing sex and contraception in public is generally considered taboo in Pakistan, which is straight-laced in everything that is related to the topic of sex and family planning. Advertisements of various forms of birth control are rare in Pakistan, still they provoke public controversy.In September 2015, PEMRA already banned the airing of a contraceptive ad on TV channels, as it was deemed objectionable and indecent and provoked “scores of public complaints,” Pakistani media reported at that time.
The advertisement was in sheer disregard for Pakistan’s socio-cultural and religious norms and violated the generally accepted standards of decency and morality, PEMRA said in its statement in 2015.
The latest ban comes at a time when the government encourages birth control. Provincial population welfare departments regularly run campaigns to enlighten people about various forms of family planning.
"Reduction in population growth is one of the top priorities of the government of Pakistan to maintain the balance between the country's resources and population," the government’s annual report on contraceptive use says.
Contraceptive use in Pakistan is still low and fell by 7.2 percent in the last year, according to government statistics, as reported by Reuters. One third of Pakistanis have no access to birth control, Pakistani media report citing UN data.
Pakistan is now the sixth most populous country in the world and its population of 190 million continues to grow at a rate of almost two percent per year. By 2025, it is expected to reach 227 million.
