World's deadliest tourist Destination.
Editor-Jitendra Kumar Jitu
Voice-Anju Paudel
Travelling should be more than packing bags, travelling long way to a 7star hotel and visiting some of most likely visited tourist destination. According to my idea of holiday, if you have a charged pocket, a desire to taste some adventure (or taste death) then you must visit Somalia. Somalia is on the Horn of Africa, and is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the north-west, and Kenya on its south-west. On June 21, the US Federal Government has issued a Travel Warning for the country. Travel to Somalia is EXTREMELY NOT recommended as the conflict continues.
Somalia is noted as the world's unsafe travel destination and is one of the most dangerous places on Earth.
Somalia is home to the largest coastline in Africa, good hotel and food bargains and the beautiful mountains. In 2004, Somalia's minister of tourism claimed that the country hadn't had an officially-acknowledged tourist in 14 years. The problem? Civil war and fighting among warlords seeking to gain control of drug and weapons trafficking has left Somalia a burning wreck of what was once a beautiful country.
Since the civil war broke out in 1990, Somalia is divided into no less than two dozen warring groups. The proprietors of most of the Hotels may serve delicious lobster on the roof overlooking the sea, but they also advise that visitors hire at least 10 armed guards to get them from the airport to the hotel. The United States doesn't even operate an embassy in Somalia, so you're truly on your own. Terrorist attacks, cross-border warring and brutal, violent street crime wrack the country on a daily basis. So why would you want to visit Somalia? The answer probably would be adventure.
The Safety Tips:
1. Somalia is a Muslim country. As such, be sensitive about where you point your camera. There are many great photo opportunities around every corner (the question is usually what to leave out of each image), but when photographing people, always ask first. Don't ever try to take pictures of women, even if you're a woman yourself. This is considered a great offense and can even result in more than a few harsh words. Also don't try to take pictures of anything that looks as if it could be of any strategic importance.
2. Alcohol is prohibited in Somalia and possessing alcohol will get you into a lot of trouble - and never drink and drive.
3. Never discuss religion. Even highly-educated Somalis who studied abroad won't appreciate it and doors will close for you. Also be aware that the Islamic "call to prayer" happens five times daily and can be heard loudly almost anywhere you go. Just understand that most Somali people are used to it and enjoy it as part of the cultural experience. If you aren't Muslim, it is not expected for you to participate, but you should always sit quietly and respectfully until the prayers end.
4. Do Take care of your clothing as you are visiting a Muslim country.
As with any travel in a war zone, exercise extreme caution. And for a last pray for a safe landing back to your town.

World's deadliest tourist Destination.
Editor-Jitendra Kumar Jitu

When most people think of the country Somalia, they associate it with the only areas national media cover, pirates, extremist terrorism, famine and war. A self declared independent state of this country named Somaliland seemed to be different from the rest, the people were happy, it was safe to travel too and they seek peace following the 1988 Somali war.
Somaliland is a self declared independent state, that has been fighting for recognition since the 1960’s. Since then, Somaliland has managed to instate its own visa’s, currency, police force and even access to reliable internet.
I wanted to discover more about the somali people are what they are really like, and how they live their lives. So i researched ways to get into the country. Crossing the border is relatively easy in fact, you just need a visa. I found a tour operator named Lupine Travel who offer trips out to the Horn of Africa Via Ethiopia, this was my chance to meet some of the locals of Somaliland. So, after speaking to the company and arranging my trip, I booked my flights, armed myself with my camera and set out to discover the story of the people of Somaliland.

Since 2011, when Yemeni youths took to the streets and sparked the eventual demise of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's regime, the country has fallen to pieces. The new embattled government is now struggling to cope with a bevy of issues, including sectarian rivalries, CIA drone strikes, and one of al Qaeda's most sophisticated branches. It now risks presiding over the failure of one of the world's most fragile countries.
In "Yemen: A Failed State," VICE News visits some of Yemen's most dangerous and hard-to-reach places and groups, including the national Army in the country's lawless East, the Houthis in Sana'a, and the Popular Committee in the South, to find out how both the government and the West's policy toward Yemen have gone wrong.

Take a quick drive with us through liberated Mogadishu, from Lido Beach, Abdiaziz, to Via Roma, Hamarweyne. The Somali government re-took the city from Shabaab rebels with support from the African Union well over a year ago and now despite some remaining concerns daytime checkpoints have been removed from the main roads. Security is still something to consider, nevertheless the city is safer than it has been in over two decades and many people are coming home and finally seeing how the city will heal. "For two decades Somalia has been torn apart by famine, by bloodshed, and by some of the worst poverty on our planet. As many as one million people have died. The terrible scenes that we all saw with the famine last year were truly heartbreaking, with death and suffering on a scale that no country and no people should ever have to suffer in our modern world. Earlier this week I met with some of the Somali diaspora, British Somalis living here in Britain. Many had fled from fighting and famine, and they had grave concerns for the relatives left behind. Now of course it is natural to want to help any country in such distress. But there is another reason for the international community to help the Somali people, and that is because the problems in Somalia don't just affect Somalia, they affect us all."

"I visited Somalia last December. I saw the damage and danger, but I also saw the promise and potential of Somalia. In Dadaab, Kenya, at the world's biggest refuge camp, I spoke to Somalis who have lived through war and famine. They asked 'Does the world even care?' We must answer with a resounding answer 'Yes'."

This is the common aim which is agreed to by all, i.e. the restoration of peace and security, putting an end to violence, and to have a comprehensive and permanent peace so that we can fight extremism, we can fight terrorism, and restore social services and the infrastructure to all parts of Somalia, as well as a return of confidence and implementation of the roadmap."

Somalia, is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, the Gulf of Aden to the north, the Indian Ocean to the east, and Kenya to the southwest. Somalia has the longest coastline on the continent's mainland, and its terrain consists mainly of plateaus, plains and highlands. Climatically, hot conditions prevail year-round, with periodic monsoon winds and irregular rainfall.
Somalia has a population of around 10 million. Around 85% of residents are ethnic Somalis, who have historically inhabited the northern part of the country. Ethnic minorities make up the remainder and are largely concentrated in the southern regions. The official languages of Somalia are Somali and Arabic, both of which belong to the Afro-Asiatic family. Most people in the country are Muslim, with the majority being Sunni.
In antiquity, Somalia was an important commercial centre, and is among the most probable locations of the fabled ancient Land of Punt. During the Middle Ages, several powerful Somali empires dominated the regional trade, including the Ajuran Empire, the Adal Sultanate, the Warsangali Sultanate, and the Geledi Sultanate. In the late 19th century, through a succession of treaties with these kingdoms, the British and Italians gained control of parts of the coast and established the colonies of British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland. In the interior, Muhammad Abdullah Hassan's Dervish State successfully repelled the British Empire four times and forced it to retreat to the coastal region. The Dervishes were finally defeated in 1920 by British airpower. Italy acquired full control of the northeastern and southern parts of the area after successfully waging the so-called Campaign of the Sultanates against the ruling Majeerteen Sultanate and Sultanate of Hobyo. Italian occupation lasted until 1941, yielding to British military administration. Northern Somalia would remain a protectorate, while southern Somalia became a United Nations Trusteeship in 1949. In 1960, the two regions united to form the independent Somali Republic under a civilian government. Mohamed Siad Barre seized power in 1969 and established the Somali Democratic Republic. In 1991, Barre's government collapsed as the Somali Civil War broke out.
In the absence of a central government, Somalia's residents reverted to local forms of conflict resolution. A few autonomous regions, including the Somaliland, Puntland and Galmudug administrations, emerged in the north in the ensuing process of decentralization. The early 2000s saw the creation of fledgling interim federal administrations. The Transitional National Government (TNG) was established in 2000, followed by the formation of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) in 2004, which reestablished national institutions such as the military. In 2006, the TFG, assisted by Ethiopian troops, assumed control of most of the nation's southern conflict zones from the newly formed Islamic Courts Union (ICU). The ICU subsequently splintered into more radical groups such as Al-Shabaab, which battled the TFG and its AMISOM allies for control of the region, with the insurgents losing most of the territory that they had seized by mid-2012. In 2011–2012, a political process providing benchmarks for the establishment of permanent democratic institutions was launched.[23] Within this administrative framework a new provisional constitution was passed in August 2012 which reformed Somalia as a federation. Following the end of the TFG's interim mandate the same month, the Federal Government of Somalia, the first permanent central government in the country since the start of the civil war, was formed. The nation has concurrently experienced a period of intense reconstruction, particularly in the capital, Mogadishu. Through the years, Somalia has maintained an informal economy, based mainly on livestock, remittances, and telecommunications.
Somalia has been inhabited since at least the Paleolithic. During the Stone Age, the Doian and Hargeisan cultures flourished here. The oldest evidence of burial customs in the Horn of Africa comes from cemeteries in Somalia dating back to the 4th millennium BCE. The stone implements from the Jalelo site in the north were also characterized in 1909 as important artefacts demonstrating the archaeological universality during the Paleolithic between the East and the West.
According to linguists, the first Afro-Asiatic-speaking populations arrived in the region during the ensuing Neolithic period from the family's proposed urheimat ("original homeland") in the Nile Valley, or the Near East.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has not delivered on the promise of democracy and is losing popular support.
Is it time to revise the plan for a new constitution and elections next year? And what about the huge challenges Al-Shabaab present to this troubled East African nation? With Vuyiswa Ngqbongwana in the studio to discuss these issues are Duale Yusuf, foreign secretary of the Somali Unity Council, the Kenyan broadcaster and editor of Informer East Africa, Julius Mbaluto, and joining us on the line from London is the British Somali journalist, Ismail Einashe.
At the end of March in Kenya, Garissa, a university town 200 kilometers from the Somali border came under attack. Al-Shabaab insurgents stormed into Garissa College University, firing their guns indiscriminately. Over 20 people were killed and 65 others have been wounded.
Over the last two years, Al-Shabaab has managed to enter Kenya from Somalia, where they are based, and managed to create chaos and destruction, without much difficulty. The root of the problem is the ongoing political crisis in Somalia.
Corruption also remains rife. Political progress is slow and since late last year, the president and prime minister have been locked in an argument over who has the right to hire and fire ministers. The president won, a new prime minister was named, and in February, his cabinet was approved at the parliament’s third attempt. However, as a result of the crisis, it seems that the prime minister’s reputation is in ruins. There should be a new constitution and fresh elections by next year, but it seems unlikely that this deadline will be met. As Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud congratulated new elected Nigerian President General Muhamadu Buhari, his own country seems to be in a conflict without end.
