The Mud Skyscrapers of Shibam, the Manhattan of the Desert
Shibam, in the desert of central Yemen, is home to about 7,000 people. Located at the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe, the small town was once a stopping point for traders traveling along the frankincense and spice routes.
The walled city of “skyscrapers” was built on a hill in the 1530s after a mighty flood destroyed much of the existing settlement. Its five hundred huddled buildings, ranging from five to eleven stories high, are the tallest mud buildings in the world and provided protection against the elements and deterred potential attackers. They continue to shelter the residents of Shibam
Surrounded by a fortified wall, the 16th-century city of Shibam is one of the oldest and best examples of urban planning based on the principle of vertical construction. Its impressive tower-like structures rise out of the cliff and have given the city the nickname of 'the Manhattan of the desert'.

Shibam (Arabic: شبام) is a town in Hadramawt, Yemen with about 7,000 inhabitants. It has been the capital of the Hadramawt Kingdom for several periods of time. (There is also a town by the same name outside Yemen's capital of Sana'a. To avoid confusion, the town of this article is therefore often referred to as Shibam Hadhramaut.)
Shibam owes its fame to its distinct architecture, which now is on UNESCOs programme to safeguard the human cultural heritage. The houses of Shibam are all made out of mud bricks, but about 500 of them are tower houses, which rise 5 to 11 stories high,[1] with each floor being an apartment occupied by a single family.[2] This technique of building was implemented in order to protect residents from Bedouin attacks. While Shibam has existed for around 2,000 years, most of the city's houses come mainly from the 16th century. However, many have been rebuilt over and over again during the last few centuries.
Shibam is often called "the oldest skyscraper-city in the world" or "Manhattan of the desert", and is the earliest example of urban planning based on the principle of vertical construction.[2] The city has the tallest mud buildings in the world, with some of them being over 100 feet[3] (over 30 meters) high, thus being the first high-rise (which need to be at least 75 feet or 23 meters) apartment buildings and tower blocks.

Shibam, es una ciudad de Yemen, situada en la Gobernación de Hadramaut y poblada por unos 7.000 habitantes. Su arquitectura con edificios de varios pisos, de ladrillos de tierra, separados por un laberinto de callejones estrechos, le vale el sobrenombre de Manhattan del desierto. Fue en numerosas ocasiones la capital del reino hadramaut. Se inscribió en el Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO en el año 1982.
El método de construcción con adobe es bien singular alcanzando algunos edificios los mas de 23 metros de altura, los más antiguos datan del siglo XVI. Para proteger las edificaciones de las inclemencias, las fachadas son recubiertas con un baño espeso que hay que renovar regularmente.

Le abitazioni di Shibam sono state edificate prevalentemente fra il XVI e il XIX sec. insieme a numerose moschee, palazzi e manufatti di interesse architettonico, tutti costruiti con mattoni di fango su fondazioni di pietra. I suoi 500 edifici di notevole altezza, molti di 7-8 piani fino ad un massimo di 30 metri, costruiti tutti in una piccolo rettangolo, di m.400 x m.500, sono così compatti e slanciati da rendere unica al mondo la visione di questa città. Shibam
Shibam (Arabic: شِبَام) (often referred to as Shibam Hadhramaut) is a town in Yemen. With about 7,000 inhabitants, it is the seat of the Shibam District in the Hadhramaut Governorate. It is famous for its mudbrick-made high-rise buildings.
History
The first known inscription about the city dates from the 3rd century AD. It was the capital of the Hadramawt Kingdom.
Geography
The town is located in the central-western area of Hadhramaut Governorate, in the Ramlat al-Sab`atayn desert. Its main road links Sana'a and other cities of western Yemen to the far eastern territories. Nearest towns are Seiyun, seat of an airport, and Tarim, both in the east. Another road, departing from the village of Alajlanya, in the west; links Shibam to Al Mukalla, governorate's capital, located by the Indian Ocean.
Architecture
Overview
Shibam, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, owes its fame to its distinct architecture.The houses of Shibam are all made out of mud brick and about 500 of them are tower blocks, which rise 5 to 11 stories high, with each floor having one or two rooms. This architectural style was used in order to protect residents from Bedouin attacks. While Shibam has been in existence for an estimated 1,700 years, most of the city's houses originate from the 16th century. Many, though, have been rebuilt numerous times in the last few centuries.

John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (/ɡᵻˈlɛspi/; October 21, 1917 – January 6, 1993) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer and occasional singer.
AllMusic's Scott Yanow wrote, "Dizzy Gillespie's contributions to jazz were huge. One of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time (some would say the best), Gillespie was such a complex player that his contemporaries ended up copying Miles Davis and Fats Navarro instead, and it was not until Jon Faddis's emergence in the 1970s that Dizzy's style was successfully recreated [...] Arguably Gillespie is remembered, by both critics and fans alike, as one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time."
Gillespie was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuoso style of Roy Eldridge but adding layers of harmonic complexity previously unheard in jazz. His beret and horn-rimmed spectacles, his scat singing, his bent horn, pouched cheeks and his light-hearted personality were essential in popularizing bebop.

The houses of Shibam are all made out of mud bricks, but about 500 of them are tower houses, which rise 5 to 11 stories high,[1] with each floor being an apartment occupied by a single family.[2] This technique of building was implemented in order to protect residents from Bedouin attacks. While Shibam has existed for around 2,000 years, most of the city's houses come mainly from the 16th century. However, many have been rebuilt over and over again during the last few centuries.

Le abitazioni di Shibam sono state edificate prevalentemente fra il XVI e il XIX sec. insieme a numerose moschee, palazzi e manufatti di interesse architettonico, tutti costruiti con mattoni di fango su fondazioni di pietra. I suoi 500 edifici di notevole altezza, molti di 7-8 piani fino ad un massimo di 30 metri, costruiti tutti in una piccolo rettangolo, di m.400 x m.500, sono così compatti e slanciati da rendere unica al mondo la visione di questa città. Di notevole fascino anche la visita all'interno della città con le strette viuzze e le piazze come quella dominata dal Palazzo del Sultano e quella della Moschea Al Game' con la bella siqaya monumentale.

간간이 낙타들이 길동무를 해줄 뿐 끝도 없이 펼쳐진 사막 길을 달리는 것은 길고 지루했다. 그리고 사막에 들어서자 나타나는 착시현상은 사막 길을 더 갈증 나게 했다. 5시간이 넘는 사막 길을 달리자 산도 아니고 계곡도 아닌 풍경이 펼쳐진다. 와디 하드라마트다. 와디는 평상시에는 물이 흐르지 않는 건조지역의 마른 골짜기를 말하는데 그 중에서 와디 하드라마트는 아라비아반도에서 가장 큰 와디지형이다. 와디 하드라마트의 중심에 자리 잡은 고대도시 쉬밤. 사막위의 맨해튼이라 불리는 쉬밤은 2000년의 역사를 자랑하는 고대도시로 반경 500미터 안의 도시 전체가 흙으로 빚은 고층빌딩으로 이뤄져 있다. 마을 입구에 자리 잡은 모스크는 물론이고 6-7층 높이의 타워하우스까지 모두 흙으로 지었다고 믿기 어려웠다. 쉬밤의 골목길을 누비다보면 아무데나 돌아다니는 염소들과 먼지를 일으키면 뛰어놓는 아이들까지 천 년 전 풍경 속을 걷는 듯한 착각에 빠진다. 그늘이 든 작은 광장은 한낮의 더위를 피해 온 마을 사람들의 차지다. 뽀리라는 예멘식 전통담배를 피는 사람과 도미노 게임을 즐기는 사람들 훈수를 두다 혼나는 사람까지. 오래도록 바라보고 싶은 여유로운 풍경이다. 마을 곳곳에서 이상한 자세로 앉아 있는 사람들을 볼 수 있다. 마치 벌 받는 것처럼 허리를 묶고 있었는데 허리가 상하지 않게 보호하는 거라고 했다. 마을에는 이런 사람들을 위한 전용 끈까지 팔고 있었는데 효과가 있는지는 알 수 없었다. 넘어지지 않고 뒤로 기댈 수 있다는 점만은 분명했다. 골목 끝에서 나는 향기를 따라 가보니 그곳엔 작은 숯불에 무언가를 태우고 있었다. 바로 태우는 향료인 유향이었다. 유향은 원래 이집트 등지에서 의식에 사용했는데 이곳에서는 방향제 등으로 쓰인다고 했다. 청년은 사용법까지 자세히 알려줬는데 친절이 지나쳐 다소 보기 민망했다. 옆에 있던 그의 친구는 한술 더 떠 신부용 두건을 써 보인다. 이렇게나마 자신들의 문화를 엿보게 해준 그들의 호의가 고맙기만 했다. 쉬밤을 벗어나려는데 한쪽에선 낡은 집을 부수는 공사가 한창이었다. 나는 그곳에서 타워하우스의 비밀을 조금이나마 알 수 있었다. 타워하우스의 흙집은 짚을 섞어 만든 흙벽돌을 한 장 한 장 쌓아 올려 만든 집이다. 이렇게 수만 장의 흙벽돌이 모여 굳어지면 수백 년을 가는 타워하우스가 만들어지는 것이다. 또, 500채의 타워하우스 하나하나가 모여 쉬밤이라는 도시의 풍경을 만들고 있었다. 그리고 와디에 물이 다시 넘치지만 않는 다면 쉬밤은 천 년 전 모습 그대로 다시 천년을 갈 것 같았다.

The Movie starts in Mumbai when mafia leader Ashok Deva is on an unending war with his opponent Pawar. Deva has a cute family with two sisters Sirisha and Priya, wife Gauthami and his right hand Shiva. Gauthami is killed by Pawar group on her birthday and she takes last word from her husband to leave this violence and lead a peaceful life away from mafia. Respecting her words, Deva along with his sisters and Shiva leaves to a small village Gandhipuram in East Godavari district to start his new life while Pawar group thinks that Deva is dead. Chakrapani is head of this village with two sons Anand and Ramakrishna. Ramakrishna is a notorious guy in the village who bashes up the bad respecting his father's principles, who is chased by his maradalu while Anand is a medico who is in love with classmate Sirisha. Feared of their parents not accepting their marriage, both of them elope to their uncle Subba Rao's residence in Mumbai. Now, Ramakrishna and Priya along with Shiva reach Mumbai in search of this eloped couple only to get targeted by mafia again. Pawar wants to finish Shiva and Priya but are saved by Ramakrishna who later knows about the flash back of Deva. Ramakrishna now takes on the responsibility of his brother's marriage with Sirisha and bring them back to Gandhipuram but to be continuously chased by this mafia. At last when both the families agree for the marriage of Ramakrishna with Priya and Anand with Sirisha, here comes back mafia Pawar to take the movie to climax

Gauthami is killed by Pawar group on her birthday and she takes last word from her husband to leave this violence and lead a peaceful life away from mafia. Respecting her words, Deva along with his sisters and Shiva leaves to a small village Gandhipuram in East Godavari district to start his new life while Pawar group thinks that Deva is dead. Chakrapani is head of this village with two sons Anand and Ramakrishna. Ramakrishna is a notorious guy in the village who bashes up the bad respecting his father's principles, who is chased by his maradalu while Anand is a medico who is in love with classmate Sirisha. Feared of their parents not accepting their marriage, both of them elope to their uncle Subba Rao's residence in Mumbai. Now, Ramakrishna and Priya along with Shiva reach Mumbai in search of this eloped couple only to get targeted by mafia again. Pawar wants to finish Shiva and Priya but are saved by Ramakrishna who later knows about the flash back of Deva. Ramakrishna now takes on the responsibility of his brother's marriage with Sirisha and bring them back to Gandhipuram but to be continuously chased by this mafia. At last when both the families agree for the marriage of Ramakrishna with Priya and Anand with Sirisha, here comes back mafia Pawar to take the movie to climax
