I live in good ole Small Town USA: Lavonia, Georgia. There's not much to see or do around here. Most people, especially those who live in a big city, wouldn't understand the love I have for my little hometown though. These people always ask me why I go home all the time. They will never experience the same kind of love, nostalgia and warm hospitality that comes with living in a small town. It's about everyone knowing everyone. It's about loving each other, regardless of skin color, political views or religious beliefs. It's about competing with other elementary schools in Junior Olympics and unifying as one student body at FCHS. 5502 On the accident scene...(start film)....Two teen-age girls were admitted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital shortly after midnight following a non-collision auto smashup. (Show film) The wreck occurred shortly before midnight on route 919 in Franklin County about 6 miles Southwest of Boones Mill. Injured and brought to Roanoke Memorial were: 17-year-old Ann Jewell and 18-year-old Judy Garriques, both of Bay Side Beach, Pasadena, Maryland. Both girls suffered sprained necks and lacerations, but neither is in critical condition. The driver of the car was 16-year-old Carl Emory Guthrie, Junior of Boones Mill. 6583 ((ROLL FILM))) Franklin county MARKED ITS third traffic fatality of the year in the death of 41 year old Horace E. Southall. (((SHOW FILM))) Southall died instantly when he was trapped beneath a sports car as it overturned on State Route 634, about 2 miles south of Hardy. State Trooper J. W. Alderman says Southall was driving when he apparently lost control of the car it crashed into a fence.....and overturned. A passenger in the tiny car, 29 year old James R. Mitchell of 1015 Bullitt Avenue, Southeast, in Roanoke is in fair condition at Roanoke Memorial hospital with a head injury. Rescuers worked nearly an hour to remove Southalls body from beneath the car where he was trapped. Another wreck(start film)..involving a car and a truck occurred in Roanoke County County today, but no one was seriously hurt. (show film) The truck-car collision occurred on Route 220 near the Roanoke-Franklin County line. In the accident, two employes of the Bartlett Tree Company received slight injuries. 26-year-old Elmer C. Neighbors of Route 6 was thrown from the cab of the truck and suffered abrasions on his arms. 20-year-old Shirley E. Clemons of the 700 block of Marshall Avenue, Southwest received a slight bump on the head. The accident occurred on a bridge when the car driven by 39-year-old Troy W. 5774 (Start film) Another big bootlegging operation cracked in Southwest Virginia today - - - - - as State and Federal agents (Show film) swooped down on the biggest still ever found in this area. It was located 1½ half miles south of Calloway in Franklin County. Three men were arrested at the whiskey-making site. Theyre 39-year-old Mike Quinn of Ferrum; Varnie Shiveley - another Ferrum man - - - and William Dawson of Calloway. The raiders confiscated 13,000 gallons of mash which was about ready to be changed into moonshine. The low-pressure still had three cookers. Afterwards still, mash and other equipment went up in a cloud of dynamite from several well-placed charges.
