A false etymology (pseudoetymology, paraetymology, or paretymology), sometimes called folk etymology although this is also a technical term in linguistics, is a popularly held but false belief about the origins of specific words, often originating in common-sense assumptions.
Such etymologies often have the feel of urban legends, and can be much more colorful than the typical etymologies found in dictionaries, often involving stories of unusual practices in particular subcultures (e.g. Oxford students from non-noble families being supposedly forced to write sine nobilitate by their name, soon abbreviated to s.nob., hence the word snob). Many recent examples are "backronyms" (acronyms made up to explain a term), as in snob, and posh for "port outward, starboard homeward"; many other sourced examples are listed in the article on backronyms.
Erroneous etymologies can exist for many reasons. Some are reasonable interpretations of the evidence that happen to be false. For a given word there may often have been many serious attempts by scholars to propose etymologies based on the best information available at the time, and these can be later modified or rejected as linguistic scholarship advances. The results of medieval etymology, for example, were plausible given the insights available at the time, but have often been rejected by modern linguists. The etymologies of humanist scholars in the early modern period began to produce more reliable results, but many of their hypotheses have also been superseded.
MTV News is the news production division of MTV. The service is available in the US with localized versions on MTV's global network. In February 2016, MTV Networks confirmed it would refresh the MTV News brand in 2016, to compete with the likes of BuzzFeed and Vice.
MTV News content is available from respective MTV websites, Apps, YouTube and on-air.
MTV News began in the late 1980s with the program The Week In Rock, hosted by Kurt Loder, the first official MTV News correspondent. Since 1990, the opening riff to Megadeth's "Peace Sells" has been the main opening theme for The Week In Rock.
It first began covering political news in the 1992 American presidential elections, through its "Choose or Lose" campaign. Since then, MTV has run "Choose or Lose" for other presidential elections in the United States. For the 2008 election, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton appeared on an MTV special to discuss the Iraq war.

In Christian mythology, the Holy Grail was the dish, plate, cup or vessel that caught Jesus' blood during his crucifixion. It was said to have the power to heal all wounds. A theme joined to the Christianised Arthurian mythos relates to the quest for the Holy Grail. The legend may be a combination of genuine Christian lore with a Celtic myth of a cauldron endowed with special powers. Whether graal is Celtic or Old French, it never refers to any cup or bowl but this. Though some Christian revisionists insist that the Holy Grail is not to be confused with the Holy Chalice, the vessel which Jesus used at the Last Supper to serve the wine, this has been the historical practice; various vessels have been put forward as the Last Supper chalice. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, it was on...
KUKUU-TUNTUM - The Ancestral Jurisdiction (full audio book of the original 3-CD set including all 13 tracks) KUKUU-TUNTUM (koo·koo' - toon·toom') is the combination of the Kenesu-Kamau term, Kukuu and the Twi-Akan term, Tuntum. The terms are defined in their respective languages as descriptive of blackness which contains illumination, holder; black, dark. As a name, they are representative of the regulatory function of Creative Consciousness. Just as the night sky executes its authority over the planetary bodies and stars within it, KUKUU-TUNTUM discloses the jurisdiction of the culture. Contents: Origin of Creation · Origin of the name Afuraka/Afuraitkait (Africa) · Origin and nature of Afurakanu/Afuraitkaitnut (Africans) · Afurakani/Afuraitkaitnit (African) culture · Origin and nature...
In this episode of our blogtalkradio broadcast ODWIRA, we examine the etymological and cosmological origin and foundation of the terms Tua Ra and Khu Ra from ancient Khanit and Kamit (Nubia and Egypt). These terms would later be corrupted into 'Torah' and 'Quran' by the whites and their offspring to reference their pseudo-scriptures which propagate fictional characters who never existed of any race or in any form whatsoever including 'moses', 'muhammad', 'yahweh' and 'allah'. A lack of facility with the practice of Afurakani/Afuraitkaitnit (African) Ancestral Religion renders pseudo-scholars cosmologically incompetent. This condition leads to a lack of understanding and thus the propagation of false etymologies and cosmological analyses which renders their work useless. We must return to ...
