A member of the public has helped police locate a toddler taken from a home on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.
Officers found the toddler at Coolangatta on Wednesday morning at 9am after a member of the public heard an amber alert - issued to media outlets by police when a child is believed to have been abducted - and followed a vehicle described in the alert.
The two-year-old went missing about 4pm after he was driven away from his family home at Mudgeeraba by his grandfather, Wayne Neale Pearson.
In a press conference on Tuesday morning, Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said the toddler had been listening to music in his granddad's car before his mother noticed him missing.
Police held fears for the child's safety after Mr Pearson, who suffers from a medical condition, had not contacted family or friends and had turned off his phone.
Detective Superintendent Hutchinson said a member of the public had notified police after hearing about the amber alert on Wednesday morning.
"We are awaiting for confirmation, but it appears a member of public heard the amber alert, followed the vehicle, called police and continued to follow the vehicle until police arrived," he said.
Mr Pearson was assisting police with the investigation into the incident.
