âĄď¸ The combination of cool nights and sunshine make Baja an ideal spot for more intense red varieties. There are so many different varietals ranging from Sauvignon Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is a clear favorite among many winemakers and sommeliers: Nebbiolo.
đ Nebbiolo has adapted well in the Valle, but just a few years back they were saying the same thing about Tempranillo. What is exciting is that winemakers can be creative and come up with extremely exciting blends
âĄď¸ The mix of international grapes is increasing, the oldest vines in the region are Carignan, Grenache and Mission. Some winemakers believe these varieties also hold the key to Mexicoâs wine future as they are the best adapted to the environment.
âĄď¸ The character of Mexican wines depends on the vineyard site. It has a huge mix of soils that have been brought to the surface by the action of the colliding tectonic plates in this highly active seismic area. The most remarkable feature are the ginormous boulders that are strewn around the valley. It looks like the aftermath of giants having snowball fights, with rocks.

Hey frenz,
I know that for a lot of you 2020 has seemed like an absolute crapshoot. We've all lost people or know friends who have lost people and some days it just feels like we're just trying to outrun the sadness of it all. A few weeks ago it was announced that Adam Schlesinger of Fountains Of Wayne passed away. I never met him and he had no idea who my band was, but the songs he wrote with Fountains of Wayne have been weaving themselves into the fabric of my writing process since I was a teenager. It's so interesting how pop music seems so frivilous and disposable until you find yourself in a situation that only the right song can save you from. I loved Adam's band and I loved his songs. After I heard he passed I just grabbed a guitar and starting playing everything I could remember that he had written. In this weird way I was trying to hang on to his songs in case they somehow decided to leave with him. His songs were a textbook for me in music and life when I really needed one, and his loss is still felt in our tiny little corner of North Carolina.
I got some friends together during quarantine to do a cover of one of my favorite songs Adam wrote. I was lucky enough to have Davey Davenport, J. Stephens and Scott Kerr from Five Iron Frenzy come on board to play this one with me and do a little track swapping. It was a really fun reminder to me that songs are shared experiences just floating around the universe waiting to happen to us, and we can be a part of them any time we want, even during a pandemic. Adam had an amazing way of telling people's stories and reaching out through his songs as if to say "I see you." I'll never forget the way Adam's songs made me feel seen, and I can't think of a better gift to leave behind than that...

Mexican wine and wine making began with the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century, when they brought vines from Europe to modern day Mexico, the oldest wine-growing region in the Americas. Although there were indigenous grapes before the Spanish conquest, the Spaniards found that Spanish grapevines also did very well in the colony of New Spain (Mexico) and by the 17th century wine exports from Spain to the New World fell. In 1699, Charles II of Spain prohibited wine making in Mexico, with the exception of wine for Church purposes. From then until Mexicoâs Independence, wine was produced in Mexico only on a small scale. After Independence, wine making for personal purposes was no longer prohibited and production rose, especially in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many other European immigrant groups helped with the comeback of wine in Mexico. However, the Mexican Revolution set back wine production, especially in the north of the country. Wine production in Mexico has been rising in both quantity and quality since the 1980s, although competition from foreign wines and 40% tax on the product makes competing difficult within Mexico. Mexico is not traditionally a wine-drinking country, but rather prefers beer, tequila and mezcal. Interest in Mexican wine, especially in the major cities and tourists areas (along with the introduction into the US on a small scale), has grown along with Mexican winesâ reputation throughout the world. Many Mexican companies have received numerous awards. Various wine producers from Mexico have won international awards for their products.

Name of Mexico
The name of Mexico may come from the word mexixin, a cress that grew in the swamplands of Texcoco lake. It was an edible grass that the Aztecs or Mexica survived on as they settled where today lies MĂŠxico City. The name of Mexico entails the origin, history, and use of the name Mexico, which dates back to 14th century Mesoamerica. The Nahuatl word Mexico means place of the Mexica but the ethnonym Mexicatl itself is of unknown etymology. Scholars have suggested "Hare of the Aloes" or a synonym of the war god Huitzilopochtli as possible roots.
Mexico (country) did not name its capital after itself, as in Mexico Cityâthe accepted name internationallyâbut the converse actually applies. Before Spanish times, the capital was formally named Tenochtitlan, but was the seat of the Mexica Empire which is known as the Aztec Empire.
As far back as 1590, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum showed that the northern part of the New World was known as "America Mexicana" (Mexican America), as Mexico City was the seat for the New Spain viceroyalty. "New Spain" is mistaken as the old name for Mexico, rather than the name of a province of New Mexico that existed during colonial times. Under the Spaniards, Mexico was both the name of the capital and its sphere of influence, most of which exists as Greater Mexico City and the State of Mexico. Some parts of Puebla, Morelos and Hidalgo were also part of Spanish-era Mexico.

Mexico (barque)
Mexico was a barque that was wrecked off Southport on 9 December 1886. She was repaired only to be lost in Scottish waters in 1890.
Shipwreck
On 9 December 1886, the Mexico was on its way from Liverpool to Guayaquil, Ecuador when it was caught in a storm. Lifeboats were launched from Lytham, St. Annes and Southport to rescue the crew. The Lytham lifeboat Charles Biggs, which was on her maiden rescue, rescued the twelve crew but both the St. Annes lifeboat Laura Janet and the Southport lifeboat Eliza Fernley were capsized, and 27 of the 29 crew were drowned. To date, this is the worst loss of RNLI crew in a single incident.Mexico came ashore off Birkdale, opposite the Birkdale Palace Hotel.
Aftermath
Sixteen women were left widows, and fifty children lost their fathers. Queen Victoria and the Kaiser sent their condolences to the families of the lifeboatmen. An appeal was launched to raise money to provide a memorial to those killed, and the organisation by Sir Charles Macara of the first street collections in Manchester in 1891 led to the first flag days. The disaster has a permanent memorial in Lytham St. Annes lifeboat house. An appeal has been launched by the Lytham St. Annes Civic Society for the restoration of four of the memorials.

âĄď¸ The combination of cool nights and sunshine make Baja an ideal spot for more intense red varieties. There are so many different varietals ranging from Sauvignon Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is a clear favorite among many winemakers and sommeliers: Nebbiolo.
đ Nebbiolo has adapted well in the Valle, but just a few years back they were saying the same thing about Tempranillo. What is exciting is that winemakers can be creative and come up with extremely exciting blends
âĄď¸ The mix of international grapes is increasing, the oldest vines in the region are Carignan, Grenache and Mission. Some winemakers believe these varieties also hold the key to Mexicoâs wine future as they are the best adapted to the environment.

It has a huge mix of soils that have been brought to the surface by the action of the colliding tectonic plates in this highly active seismic area. Hey frenz,
I know that for a lot of you 2020 has seemed like an absolute crapshoot. We've all lost people or know friends who have lost people and some days it just feels like we're just trying to outrun the sadness of it all. A few weeks ago it was announced that Adam Schlesinger of Fountains Of Wayne passed away. I never met him and he had no idea who my band was, but the songs he wrote with Fountains of Wayne have been weaving themselves into the fabric of my writing process since I was a teenager. It's so interesting how pop music seems so frivilous and disposable until you find yourself in a situation that only the right song can save you from. I loved Adam's band and I loved his songs. After I heard he passed I just grabbed a guitar and starting playing everything I could remember that he had written. In this weird way I was trying to hang on to his songs in case they somehow decided to leave with him. His songs were a textbook for me in music and life when I really needed one, and his loss is still felt in our tiny little corner of North Carolina.
I got some friends together during quarantine to do a cover of one of my favorite songs Adam wrote. I was lucky enough to have Davey Davenport, J. Stephens and Scott Kerr from Five Iron Frenzy come on board to play this one with me and do a little track swapping. It was a really fun reminder to me that songs are shared experiences just floating around the universe waiting to happen to us, and we can be a part of them any time we want, even during a pandemic. Adam had an amazing way of telling people's stories and reaching out through his songs as if to say "I see you." I'll never forget the way Adam's songs made me feel seen, and I can't think of a better gift to leave behind than that...

Boy, was I wrong! In addition to 67 other languages being recognized as national languages by the Mexican government, Ethnologue estimates that there are over 282 indigenous languages spoken in Mexico. Not to mention, TWO of them originate from powerful ancient civilizations that pre-date European colonization. In fact, it turns out that both Aztec and Mayan are still spoken today! Further, Mexico also has a number of endangered languages, as well as a linguistic features that is popular with Hollywood celebrities.

An enthusiastic longtail boatman shows off the blistering speed of his engine on a canal in western Thailand. Manop Ruaprasert, 25, took his boat onto a canal in Ratchaburi and showed off the extreme speed and manoeuvrability of his craft, as well as his skill and reflexes as a boatman. He bought the wooden body of the boat then modified it by attaching a 1-litre car engine which is more powerful than the standard 150cc drag racing engines. Manop's boat, which he modified himself, can reach speeds of more than 100kmh. He started for fun when he was in his late teens. The canals in central Bangkok canât be used for motorboats but on the outskirts, where passenger canal boats arenât used, they can be. Theyâre easy to navigate as theyâre straight and flat. âĄď¸ The combination of cool nights and sunshine make Baja an ideal spot for more intense red varieties. There are so many different varietals ranging from Sauvignon Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is a clear favorite among many winemakers and sommeliers: Nebbiolo.
đ Nebbiolo has adapted well in the Valle, but just a few years back they were saying the same thing about Tempranillo. What is exciting is that winemakers can be creative and come up with extremely exciting blends
âĄď¸ The mix of international grapes is increasing, the oldest vines in the region are Carignan, Grenache and Mission. Some winemakers believe these varieties also hold the key to Mexicoâs wine future as they are the best adapted to the environment.
âĄď¸ The character of Mexican wines depends on the vineyard site. It has a huge mix of soils that have been brought to the surface by the action of the colliding tectonic plates in this highly active seismic area. The most remarkable feature are the ginormous boulders that are strewn around the valley. It looks like the aftermath of giants having snowball fights, with rocks.

Hey frenz,
I know that for a lot of you 2020 has seemed like an absolute crapshoot. We've all lost people or know friends who have lost people and some days it just feels like we're just trying to outrun the sadness of it all. A few weeks ago it was announced that Adam Schlesinger of Fountains Of Wayne passed away. I never met him and he had no idea who my band was, but the songs he wrote with Fountains of Wayne have been weaving themselves into the fabric of my writing process since I was a teenager. It's so interesting how pop music seems so frivilous and disposable until you find yourself in a situation that only the right song can save you from. I loved Adam's band and I loved his songs. After I heard he passed I just grabbed a guitar and starting playing everything I could remember that he had written. In this weird way I was trying to hang on to his songs in case they somehow decided to leave with him. His songs were a textbook for me in music and life when I really needed one, and his loss is still felt in our tiny little corner of North Carolina.
I got some friends together during quarantine to do a cover of one of my favorite songs Adam wrote. I was lucky enough to have Davey Davenport, J. Stephens and Scott Kerr from Five Iron Frenzy come on board to play this one with me and do a little track swapping. It was a really fun reminder to me that songs are shared experiences just floating around the universe waiting to happen to us, and we can be a part of them any time we want, even during a pandemic. Adam had an amazing way of telling people's stories and reaching out through his songs as if to say "I see you." I'll never forget the way Adam's songs made me feel seen, and I can't think of a better gift to leave behind than that...

Mexican wine
Mexican wine and wine making began with the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century, when they brought vines from Europe to modern day Mexico, the oldest wine-growing region in the Americas. Although there were indigenous grapes before the Spanish conquest, the Spaniards found that Spanish grapevines also did very well in the colony of New Spain (Mexico) and by the 17th century wine exports from Spain to the New World fell. In 1699, Charles II of Spain prohibited wine making in Mexico, with the exception of wine for Church purposes. From then until Mexicoâs Independence, wine was produced in Mexico only on a small scale. After Independence, wine making for personal purposes was no longer prohibited and production rose, especially in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many other European immigrant groups helped with the comeback of wine in Mexico. However, the Mexican Revolution set back wine production, especially in the north of the country. Wine production in Mexico has been rising in both quantity and quality since the 1980s, although competition from foreign wines and 40% tax on the product makes competing difficult within Mexico. Mexico is not traditionally a wine-drinking country, but rather prefers beer, tequila and mezcal. Interest in Mexican wine, especially in the major cities and tourists areas (along with the introduction into the US on a small scale), has grown along with Mexican winesâ reputation throughout the world. Many Mexican companies have received numerous awards. Various wine producers from Mexico have won international awards for their products.

Welcome to the long-awaited returned of "Languages of the World"! Today's episode about Mexico was requested many times, but I'm not going to lie, I didn't think there was any language other than Spanish spoken there.
Boy, was I wrong! In addition to 67 other languages being recognized as national languages by the Mexican government, Ethnologue estimates that there are over 282 indigenous languages spoken in Mexico. Not to mention, TWO of them originate from powerful ancient civilizations that pre-date European colonization. In fact, it turns out that both Aztec and Mayan are still spoken today! Further, Mexico also has a number of endangered languages, as well as a linguistic features that is popular with Hollywood celebrities.

An enthusiastic longtail boatman shows off the blistering speed of his engine on a canal in western Thailand.
Manop Ruaprasert, 25, took his boat onto a canal in Ratchaburi and showed off the extreme speed and manoeuvrability of his craft, as well as his skill and reflexes as a boatman.
He bought the wooden body of the boat then modified it by attaching a 1-litre car engine which is more powerful than the standard 150cc drag racing engines.
Manop's boat, which he modified himself, can reach speeds of more than 100kmh. He started for fun when he was in his late teens.
The canals in central Bangkok canât be used for motorboats but on the outskirts, where passenger canal boats arenât used, they can be. Theyâre easy to navigate as theyâre straight and flat.

An estimated 19,000 people have been reported dead or missing in the Mediterranean Sea since 2014 as they attempt the treacherous boat journey from Libya to Europe, fleeing war, persecution and poverty.
Since its foundation in 2015, Spanish NGO Open Arms has rescued over 60,000 refugees. But nothing prepared it for the events that unfolded on November 11, 2020.
