The Last Picture Show is a 1971 American drama film directed by Peter Bogdanovich, adapted from a semi-autobiographical 1966 novel of the same name by Larry McMurtry.
Set in a small town in north Texas from November 1951 to October 1952, it is about the coming of age of Sonny Crawford (Timothy Bottoms) and his friend Duane Jackson (Jeff Bridges). The cast includes Cybill Shepherd in her film debut, Ben Johnson, Eileen Brennan, Ellen Burstyn, Cloris Leachman, Clu Gulager, Randy Quaid and John Hillerman. For aesthetic reasons it was shot in black and white, which was unusual for the time. The film features many songs of Hank Williams and other recording artists played throughout.
The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Ben Johnson and Jeff Bridges for Best Supporting Actor and Ellen Burstyn and Cloris Leachman for Best Supporting Actress, with Johnson and Leachman winning. In 1998, The Last Picture Show was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

A group of 1950s high schoolers come of age in a bleak, isolated, atrophied West Texas town that is slowly dying, both economically and culturally.
Released in 1971 to critical acclaim and public controversy, The Last Picture Show garnered eight Academy Award nominations and was hailed as the most important work by a young American director since Citizen Kane. A surprisingly frank, bittersweet drama of social and sexual mores in small-town Texas, the film features a talent-laden cast led by Jeff Bridges (The Mirror Has Two Faces), Cybill Sheperd (TV's "Cybill") and Timothy Bottoms (The Man in the Iron Mask). Cloris Leachman (TV's "The Mary Tyler Moore Show") and Ben Johnson (Rio Grande each won Oscars for their work in supporting roles. Available for the first time on DVD, this modern classic is a must-have for every movie lover.

Colored glass is everywhere
Video shows I don't care, I'm running riot, I'm running riot
Borrowed prime time stop and stare
In a rental TV, I'm ultrasonic, I'm ultrasonic
The last picture show
I got a reason to be gone
I'll explain when you turn on the death rattle, the death rattle
You'll only have ten seconds then
Cut the color brightness when I'm unstable, I'm unstable

She was a child who played with flowers
A few years on and she's lost the power
The game is simple but the bullets are free
I tell her in my own words take my bad example
Throw it off the highest cliff
No mystery it's obvious I'm dancing on the waterline
I'm crashing in a hotel lift
How could you do this to me?
How could you do this to me?
What did you do it for?
You don't love me no more
I had a dream that I could fight the power
That I could make it all turn sour
I'd watch the world blow up in it's face
Appearing from the wreckage stepping lightly through the carnage
Is the preacher who converted none
You're stuck inside my matinee
I'm gone tomorrow, here today
You get the picture something's wrong
Colored glass is everywhere
Video shows I don't care, I'm running riot, I'm running riot
I got a reason to be gone
I'll explain when you turn on the death rattle, the death rattle
