The God Delusion is a 2006 best-sellingnon-fiction book by English biologist Richard Dawkins, professorial fellow of New College, Oxford, and former holder of the Charles Simonyi Chair for the Public Understanding of Science at the University of Oxford.
In The God Delusion, Dawkins contends that a supernatural creator almost certainly does not exist and that belief in a personal god qualifies as a delusion, which he defines as a persistent false belief held in the face of strong contradictory evidence. He is sympathetic to Robert Pirsig's statement in Lila (1991) that "when one person suffers from a delusion it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion." With many examples, he explains that one does not need religion to be moral and that the roots of religion and of morality can be explained in non-religious terms.
In early December 2006, it reached number four in the New York Times Hardcover Non-fiction Best Seller list after nine weeks on the list. More than three million copies were sold.
Clinton Richard Dawkins FRS FRSL (born 26 March 1941) is an Englishethologist, evolutionary biologist, and writer. He is an emeritus fellow of New College, Oxford, and was the University of Oxford's Professor for Public Understanding of Science from 1995 until 2008.
Dawkins first came to prominence with his 1976 book The Selfish Gene, which popularised the gene-centred view of evolution and introduced the term meme. In 1982, he introduced into evolutionary biology the influential concept that the phenotypic effects of a gene are not necessarily limited to an organism's body, but can stretch far into the environment. This concept is presented in his book The Extended Phenotype. In 2006, he founded the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.
Dawkins is a noted atheist, and is well known for his criticism of creationism and intelligent design. In his 1986 book The Blind Watchmaker, he argues against the watchmaker analogy, an argument for the existence of a supernatural creator based upon the complexity of living organisms. Instead, he describes evolutionary processes as analogous to a blind watchmaker. In his most popular book, his 2006 book The God Delusion, Dawkins contends that a supernatural creator almost certainly does not exist and that religious faith is a delusion. He is an opponent of creationism being taught in schools. He makes regular television and radio appearances, predominantly discussing his books, his atheism and his ideas and opinions as a public intellectual.
Richard Dawkins at Lynchburg Virginia reading some excerpts from his famous book, The God Delusion and answering the audiences questions. A lot of snippets of this video are already on YouTube and have become famous in and of themselves (one even warranting a South Park-esque rendition) but I've never seen the full video on it for some reason. Here it is regardless, even in 6 years its shocking to see how video quality has left us looking at older videos with such revulsion but I cannot do anything to improve video quality in the past; enjoy it. Richard Dawkins needs now introduction here, what you see is what you get.

"Darwin's Rottweiler is about to get a run for his money..." - BBC The God Delusion, the world-wide best-seller by atheist and scientist Prof. Richard Dawkins, is an all-out assault on religion in general and Christianity in particular. One year after its publication, fellow Oxford Professor John Lennox met Dawkins in Birmingham, Alabama to put his assertions to the test in a clash between two of the greatest minds in the science-religion debate. Remaining true to our goal of engaging secular culture on critical issues in a thoughtful, respectful manner, Fixed Point Foundation sponsored The God Delusion Debate. The debate pits Dawkins against his Oxford University colleague Professor John Lennox, who is both a scientist and a Christian theologian. In this, his first visit to the so-c...

Richard Dawkins talks about his book The God Delusion, published by Houghton Mifflin. In the book he argues that there is no rational or moral reason to believe in God or any other supernatural higher power. He says that because atheists are discriminated against in the United States they tend not to be vocal about their views, even though collectively they could be an influential political and social force. Topics included his own atheism, religion as supernatural belief, famous scientists who were atheists, the cruelties of the Old Testament God, and evolution. Professor Dawkins delivers the Philip Thayer Memorial Lecture in Smith Hall Theatre at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. He reads some selections from his work, and after his presentation he responds to audience members' questions....

In this documentary, narrated by the author of the book Phantom of the Brain - V Ramachandran [ http://amzn.to/1Ulg73K ] explains the case of a man suffering from Temporal Lobe Epilepsy(TLE). This gentleman, due to the damage to his temporal lobes, was suffering from seizures. However, after his seizures calmed down he would feel an extraordinary significance in everything he observed. He felt some sort of a oneness with nature and sometimes claimed of being omnipotent, of being God himself. This raises a question; could many prophets who have had similar experiences been afflicted by TLE? Here is an discussion weather Prophet Muhammad was also suffering from TLE - https://www.reddit.com/r/exmuslim/comments/2dma65/the_prophet_muhammad_a_possible_victim_of/ Is it possible tha...

Oxford Museum of Natural History hosts this fascinating and controversial debate on the existence of God. Professor John Lennox explains how science points to an intelligent creator and Richard Dawkins offers a counterargument. When Dawkins was asked if he ever considered God, he said, ""Yeah maybe I have, but if I have, so what? It doesn't make it true. That's what it matters." To this I'd like to ask him, how does he know if "it" is not true? Haven't seen any evidence? How does it matter to the very existence of God? Does God disappear just because you think you haven't seen any "evidence?" Someone is appealing to his own ignorance here if you ask me. ;) BTW, why would God have any need to create any other gods anyway? vid by : fixed-point.org
I'm born and raised into the god delusion
From mouth to mouth garbage spreads like a virus
One believer is a poet, a group is a cult
Nevertheless the god delusion
The great illusion
We pray like never before to the same old whore
We hold hands and commit genocide
History gets rewritten by hands of priests
To serve the very own human sick sick need
Thousands of believers will form their own world insane
