Let's Design Northern Valley Ep.6 - Municipal Service Plaza and Shopping Square - Cities Skylines

After an episode full of building highways, we are finally back to building and detailing the city. In this episode, we are building a municipal service plaza and a new shopping district in Walton Ridge. We also have a look at the map theme updates and a new color correction setup. The service plaza is a central hub for municipal services. We have a fire station, police station and hospital built. We also have a road maintenance depot that will be stationed here. The health and fire services will be capable enough to service the Walton Ridge district as well as it's neighboring areas. I really like the detail around this service area. We have a cool little garage in the back where mechanics are going to be servicing the city's vehicles. I really like the rock clusters that we have out in front of this plaza. This adds a really nice look while keeping the sight lines from the road clean. The grass detail around the rocks add a nice touch as well. The shopping plaza that we put down toward the waterfall area of Walton Ridge is serving a few purposes. The first is to satisfy some commercial demand. We currently have quite a bit of commercial demand and we really haven't placed much down. The other purpose for this area is to create a start (or end) for the highway. This plaza is set up with three lane, one way roads that continue the flow of traffic from the highway. We will limit the amount of traffic lights in this square to keep the flow going. We place parking down in the center of the circle and use pedestrian paths to fill out the space. Bushes surround the path work and draw inspiration from the parking that we've placed. Flowers fill out some of the rest of the space. Around the outside of the square, we have commercial areas zoned out. We really haven't put much in terms of growable commercial space around the city. This is the most we've placed in a connecting area so far. We'll be keeping an eye on this space to see how it will all grow and look. I may decide to grab a mod that will help fine tune the growables a little bit. The map theme has updated as well. The update brings a new water texture, which looks awesome, as well as some other less noteworthy tweaks. I've changed the color correction LUT as well. I've gotten a few comments about how washed out Northern Valley looks so I decided to try something else. The old LUT didn't look as great with the updated map theme either so it was time for a change. This is definitely a noticeable difference but I think it looks pretty good.
