Music video by Rainbow Trip performing Goru Bihu Song. Rainbow Trip’s debut Assamese EDM song is based on the theme of ‘Goru Bihu’, a festival of Assam celebrated on the first day of Rongali Bihu. The music video to ‘Goru Bihu Song’ captures the essence of Assamese folk dance - bihu with young boys and girls dressed in traditional attire and painted with cow face paint. The video begins by showing a cow and his master on their way to the river for goru bihu. What is Goru Bihu? Bihu is the major cultural festival of Assam, a state in the northeastern part of India. There are three kinds of Bihu celebrated in a year - Rongali bihu or Bohag bihu, Bhogali bihu or Magh bihu, and Kongali bihu or Kati bihu. Rongali bihu marks the onset of Assamese new year (April 14 of every year) and also the advent of seeding time. Rongali Bihu is celebrated over the entire Assamese calendar month ‘Bohag’. The first day is celebrated as ‘Goru Bihu’, where ‘goru’ refers to a cow. On this day, cattle and livestock are taken to the nearby rivers and washed with Mah-Haldi (a paste of turmeric and different types of pulses). New tethering rope is tied to the cattle and they are allowed to roam free in the fields. Cows are gently struck by sprigs of plants called Dighalati and Makhiyati. They are offered gourds and brinjals and are blessed by reciting – “lao kha bengana kha, bosore bosore barhi ja, maar xoru, baaper xoru, toi hobi bor bor goru” (blessing the livestock to grow year by year, better than their parents). Goru Bihu Song - The first Assamese EDM song Rainbow Trip’s new edm song is the first of its kind in Assamese music. Goru Bihu Song is the first electronic and electro music to be released in Assam. The song’s lyrics are based on the seasonal change and the coming of spring. In 2013, Billboard introduced a new EDM-focused Dance Songs chart.
