Money Exchanges: Omani Rials still changeable in Saudi Arabia
A video circulating on social media shows an Omani trying to exchange a OMR 50 bill, with the agent stating they are no longer accepting Omani rials.
According to the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA), Omani Rials can be exchanged in Saudi Arabian money exchange houses.
SAMA said that they did not issue directives to stop exchanging Omani Rials, according to Saudi publication Okaz. A rumor was spread among the exchange houses in Saudi Arabia, regarding a 0.5 percent customs tax on Omani Rial transfers, which has also been denied.

Oman's commemorative 45th National Day one rial banknote has won the Special Achievement Award at the Security Currency Printing Conference held in Azerbaijan.
The banknote was issued by the CBO and is characterised by a number of security features. The most prominent detail is the riased tactile marks to assist the visually impaired in recognising the denominations.
Afghanistan is beefing up its elite special forces units, to hold back an escalating Taliban insurgency. The unit has been badly stretched by two years rushing from crisis to crisis, which is why it's about to get a much needed boost.
Officials say they hope to double the number of special forces over the next few years.
Preparations for the much awaited Times of Oman Interschool Quiz Contest have begun. The preliminary rounds will be held across different international schools during the month of April. And the finals, as always, will be held at the Qurum Ampitheatre on April 29.

Omani rial
The rial (Arabic: ريال, ISO 4217 code OMR) is the currency of Oman. It is divided into 1000 baisa (also written baiza, بيسة).
History
Before 1940, the Indian rupee and the Maria Theresa thaler (known locally as the rial) were the main currencies circulating in Muscat and Oman, as the state was then known, with rupees circulating on the coast and Thaler in the interior. Maria Theresa Thaler were valued at 230 paisa, with 64 paisa equal to the rupee.
In 1940, coins were introduced for use in Dhofar, followed, in 1946, by coins for use in Oman. Both coinages were denominated in baisa (equivalent to the paisa), with 200 baisa to the rial. The Indian rupee and, from 1959, the Gulf rupee continued to circulate.
In 1970, the rial Saidi (not to be confused with Saudi riyal) was made the currency of Oman. It was equal to the British pound and replaced the Gulf rupee at a rate of approximately 21 rupees to the rial. The new rial was subdivided into 1000 baisa. The rial Omani replaced the rial Saidi at par in 1973. The currency name was altered due to the regime change in 1970 and the subsequent change of the country's name.

Saudi Arabia (
i/ˌsɔːdiː əˈreɪbiə/, i/ˌsaʊ-/), officially known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), is an Arab state in Western Asia constituting the bulk of the Arabian Peninsula. With a land area of approximately 2,150,000 km2 (830,000 sq mi), Saudi Arabia is geographically the second-largest state in the Arab world after Algeria. Saudi Arabia is bordered by Jordan and Iraq to the north, Kuwait to the northeast, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates to the east, Oman to the southeast, and Yemen to the south. It is the only nation with both a Red Sea coast and a Persian Gulf coast, and most of its terrain consists of arid inhospitable desert or barren landforms.
The area of modern-day Saudi Arabia formerly consisted of four distinct regions: Hejaz, Najd, and parts of Eastern Arabia (Al-Ahsa) and Southern Arabia ('Asir). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was founded in 1932 by Ibn Saud. He united the four regions into a single state through a series of conquests beginning in 1902 with the capture of Riyadh, the ancestral home of his family, the House of Saud. The country has since been an absolute monarchy, effectively a hereditary dictatorship governed along Islamic lines. The ultra-conservative Wahhabism religious movement within Sunni Islam has been called "the predominant feature of Saudi culture", with its global spreading largely financed by the oil and gas trade. Saudi Arabia is sometimes called "the Land of the Two Holy Mosques" in reference to Al-Masjid al-Haram (in Mecca), and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (in Medina), the two holiest places in Islam. The Kingdom has a total population of 28.7 million, of which 20 million are Saudi nationals and 8 million are foreigners.

Money Exchanges: Omani Rials still changeable in Saudi Arabia
A video circulating on social media shows an Omani trying to exchange a OMR 50 bill, with the agent stating they are no longer accepting Omani rials.
According to the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA), Omani Rials can be exchanged in Saudi Arabian money exchange houses.
SAMA said that they did not issue directives to stop exchanging Omani Rials, according to Saudi publication Okaz. A rumor was spread among the exchange houses in Saudi Arabia, regarding a 0.5 percent customs tax on Omani Rial transfers, which has also been denied.
Asylum Seekers: Eight people flee U.S. border to Canada
Eight asylum-seekers crossing the U.S.-Canada border as the U.S. looks to tighten its immigration and refugee policy.
The four adults and four children - said to be from Sudan - had arrived at the border in a taxi.

The banknote was issued by the CBO and is characterised by a number of security features. The most prominent detail is the riased tactile marks to assist the visually impaired in recognising the denominations.
Afghanistan is beefing up its elite special forces units, to hold back an escalating Taliban insurgency. The unit has been badly stretched by two years rushing from crisis to crisis, which is why it's about to get a much needed boost.
Officials say they hope to double the number of special forces over the next few years.
Preparations for the much awaited Times of Oman Interschool Quiz Contest have begun. The preliminary rounds will be held across different international schools during the month of April. And the finals, as always, will be held at the Qurum Ampitheatre on April 29.
